>> announcer: right now breaking news. firefighters in san francisco battling a big fire in a five story apartment building this is a live picture that fire start add hour ago. located between leavenworth and geary in the tenderloin. good morning i'm cheryl jennings. and i'm kristen sze. mark matthews is at the >> reporter: the seven story build something a block and a half from where we are now. that i closed off leavenworth from ellis up to o'farrell the fire started 10:00 this morning. there are 120 firefighters on

the scene. i counted 20 fire engines and trucks and ambulances responding to this blaze that began on the first floor of this residential apartment house. week see that they are cutting into the 7th floor, into the roof of this 7th floor building they think the fire started on the first floor that i been pouring water down trying to get water inside this billing. one 84-year-old woman was transported to the hospital. her son says as they were evacuating out of the building his mom breathed in some smoke, she is going to be okay. but they took her to the hospital because of her age and because smoke inhalation is one of those things they transport you to the hospital for. the fire began 10:00 this morning. there's expect that it may have been in one bathrooms on the first floor that's what residents told me.

firefighters want to get people on he have i floor firefighters on every floor to check out the damage. right now they are just penetrating the roof trying to get at this fire. >> that's what we know right now from ellis and leavenworth, the fire on the 500 block of leavenworth, 120 firefighters responding. they think it will take an hour, maybe two before they open up the street. they have it under control at this point. mark matthews, abc7 news. meantime, breaking news in oakland. police are searching for a man who flashed a gun at a woman outside kaiser hospital a short time ago. a man in his mid 30s got off an ac transit bus and started a conversation with her. he lifted up his shirt and showed her a gun in his waistband then took off. there's a heavy police press expense in the area now. stinking -- stunning new s

in the trial accused of beating a priest. william lynch testified he punched father gerald lindner for allegedly molesting lynch and his brother. katie marzullo is live outside the courthouse. >> reporter: it is a long and detailed story right out of the gate the d.a. related her case against william lynch. then lynch took the stand. right away he admitted that he did hit father jerry lindner. he said, "i don't want to insult the jury." his attorney took him back to 1947 to that camping trying he -- trip he took involving families that where he says he met father jerry as they called him for the first time. he went into graphic testimony about what he says was rape and molestation that happened in father jerry's tent between father jerry and both he and his brother, several times during his testimony he broke

down crying with his head in his hands, it was clear it was difficult for him to talk blood pressure. he says father jerry threatened to kill him and his family if he ever told. he says that is why he did not tell until he was in his 20s. he and his brother talked to his parents. will lynch said he decided he needed to do more. he wanted father jerry often streets. he tried to get charges filed, he was told the statute of limitations was up. the civil suit settled. will lynch on to get therapy and tried to get locked from what he said he was frozen in time because of what happened this is when he started describing the fight he had with the priest. he says he went to sacred heart in los gatos he knew the priest was there. he admitted using a fake name and premise to get in and get access to father jerry. he says when he was alone with him, he asked him, do you know

who i am? the priest said no the fight began shortly after that. len. testifying he saw the same look in the priest's eyes that he saw in the day and he felt threatened, but he told the priest to take his glasses off, then he swung at him, he did hit him, a fight ensued. he said at one point father lindner had his hands around will's neck and when it stopped when a staffer came in and he realized what he was doing. the judge took a brief recess after that will lynch is back on the stand right now and he's being cross-examined. katrina rusk is inside she will bring reports on what happened next, later. katie marzullo, abc7 news. from the south bay to north bay in fairfield police want to know if there are more victims of abuse after arresting a pastor on child molestation accusations going back two decades. police arrested 65-year-old

robert ruark. investigators say he molested at least five children dating back to 1994. they say the crimes happened at the church and in some cases ruark took naked pictures of the children. antioch police say a man they shot and killed in front of his home, wanted to die and gave officers no choice. 30 few-year-oldpt denny gonzalez called 911 thursday afternoon saying he wanted to kill himself, a cop or may have already done so when officers got there he came out of his garage, down his driveway armed with a hand again. gonzalez refused to drop -- drop the gun and fired one round at officers police shot and killed him. san francisco suspended sheriff headed for a showdown with the man who suspended

him. mayor ed lee expected to testify at the ethics commission hearing today about ross mirkarimi. amy hollyfield joins us outside city hall with today's testimony. mirkarimi was on the stand again today. >> reporter: yes, he's been on all morning. ross mirkarimi publicly said he didn't think domestic violence was a public matter he thought it was a private family matter advocates for domestic violence victims took him to task for that they got a billboard saying isn't a private matter. today on the stand he admitted that he does not think it is a private family matter. but, most of the morning was focused on whether ross mirkarimi and his wife tried to cover-up this incident. attorneys spent a lot of attention on calls and text messages between mere peer's wife, campaign manager and next door neighbor and calls and texts placed to mirkarimi. it was a flurry of activity. at one point eliana lopez tells the neighbor ivory

madison she has changed her mind, she wants to tkro talk to a doctor. today mirkarimi says he wasn't part of any of those conversations. it want until late in the day he spoke to his wife and learned she made a video with the neighbor showing the bruise on her arm and police would be called. >> she had made mention of a video which i just learned about for the first time. and she was very concerned, very, very concerned and wanted to come and meet me and talk with me. just trying to absorb it all. process what was happening. but it was very -- but i was very clear with my wife, i remember the quote that i said to her, i said this bell you can't unring this bell. and we must follow through with this process. >> reporter: mirkarimi was
