the police later cornered him and the gunfire started. [shouting] >> this is cell phone video taken by a neighbor. police tell us that the -- that a witness noticed the suspect had a gun so officers ordered him to drop it. he did not. people who live here say it was a tense morning. they describe a swarm of police officerses and sheriff deputies that descend on the neighborhood. they say they were ordinary by police to stay in their homes as they searched for the suspect. >> while conducting a search of the area, the officers located him. ordinary him to show his hands and surrender but he refused. instead he pointed a weapon at the officers. in self-defense they fired on him and he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. >> now, this all started earlier this morning at a vallejo convenience store. police got a call of an armed robbery in proasmg sheriff's

deputies spotted the suspect later driving in what they believe is a stolen cherokee. and that is when the chase began. now, police have not yet released the identity of the suspect, but they have told us that he is someone they are familiar with. as for this ongoing investigation, there are two police officers who are now on paid administrative leave. that is standard procedure in of officer-involved shooting. reporting live, abc-7 news. >> alan: tonight 49er rookie defensive end aldon smith is recovering after being stabbed in a weekend party in santa clara county. smith, number 99, suffered minor injuries in the incident that happened around 2:00 a.m. this morning. witnesses say they heard gunshots coming from a home. two people with gunshot wounds, along with smith, were taken to the hospital. >> ama: in san francisco, search is just wrapping up for the day for man who disappeared after a giants game. victor more rel low -- morrill

francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc-7 news. >> alan: a close call today at an ice cream store in concord, woman trying to back out of a parking spot accelerated forward and crashed into the bass skins rob -- baskins robins on oak grove road. an employee only suffered minor injuries and the driver was not hurt. the store is at the same intersection where a man and his daughter were struck and killed by an suv last april. witnesses say workers had just started making repairs to the billing yesterday. >> 'as of tonight it will be illegal to make or sell foie gras anywhere in california. our investigations in 2003 exposed how the animals were forcefed and that led to the ban. we're live in san francisco where many restaurants are serving up their last meals. >> reporter: the food fight is over, and animal rights groups won. tonight, restaurantness the city

>> ama: a hit-and-run suspect is in police custody tonight. the spurt, who has not been identified, was arrested late this afternoon. the hit-and-run happened on pine flat road. 26-year-old professional cyclist michael torqueler was training when he was hit and suffered an injury to his head but has been released from the hospital. >> alan: problems for dozens of water customers in oakland tonight. two water main breaks on the same street. last night around 6:30. a six-inch water main broke mere lake merit. an east bay mud crew came out and gap working on it, and witnesses say it was a big mess. >> one of the more dramatic parts is when the police officers sit in the middle of the road and hop up and down and the asphalt rippled like a tramp o'lean. >> alan: another water main broke on the same street this morning and water service was cut off just before 7:00.

the fog well off the coast. there will be moving in, though, later this evening, and live doppler 7 hd is picking that up quite nicely. here's capitola. santa cruz, and look what is sitting off the coast where a trough of low pressure is and all of the low clouds and fog off the coast are going to move back inland overnight. here's the look at the highs for today. we managed 85 in fairfield. antioch, 83. 77 in santa rosa, san francisco, 67 degrees. half moon bay, 69. 78 in santa cruz, and 82 in morgan hill. right now, temperatures starting to drop off, obviously, with 80s for far feet, and antioch, 77 for concord. look at 65 right now in san francisco, and half moon buy -- half moon bay, 63. low cloud off the coast will move inland tonight. also will bring in drizzle for the compost and the bay. a cloudy start.
