contra costa county close three fire stations. >> alan: and 12 firefighters lost their jobs. >> ama: the survival hinged on a tax that failed this morning. nick smith is rife with the details. >> reporter: this is station 54 in brentwood. it's been around for more than 80 years and is one of three stations forced to shut its doors. it's now padlocked shut because of the district's budget woes. the department had to cut $3 million from the budget and at it hitting the fire protection services hard, forcing them to close three stations and lay off 15 firefighters. the stations are in the east corrosion -- contra costa county protection district. justify to give you an idea how deep the cuts are, the number of fire stations has gone from six to three and the number of firefighter personnel has come from 48 to 27.

the obvious question, what does this mean in the event of an emergency call to 9-1-1? >> the response times in the outer edge of the district are going increase, probably close to double. we're looking a 13-14 minute response times to the farthest ends of the district now. >> reporter: 13 to 14 minutes in response time. the department is working with the skeleton crew. there are now nine firefighters on duty per shift to cover 250 square miles. voters pushed back when east contra costa asked them for a $197 parcel tax fee. now the fire chief is concerned because he says, hey, nick, we're approaching the holiday, fourth of july, and that means the people like to use fireworks. he wants to remind everyone they're illegal in contra costa county and if you see a fire to call 9-1-1 immediately in brentwood, nick smith, abc-7 news. >> ama: fire crews battled a two

alarm fire in a home in martinez. you can see just how heavy the flames were. crews got it under control before midnight but part of the roof collapsed. one person was hospitalized. >> a fire in this apartment complex kept firefighters busy for a half hour in concord. the flames burnt two units on clayton way near willow pass road. investigators haven't determine how it started. >> alan: in san francisco, fundraiser for the victims of an apartment fire is winding down. 37 people were dissomeplaced by a fire that damaged two apartment buildings in may. >> ama: many residents are still struggling to find place to live. sergio quintana is in the mission district with a look at how the comiewbt is helping out. >> reporter: this is a fundraiser that was time to coincide with sunday streets in the mission, which just wrapped up. you can see right now,

organizers have their table set up. they're still taking donations. i can tell you that the fire happened on the first sunday streets event of this season. as flames tore through two apartment buildings, 37 people lost their homes, neighbors have been meeting for weeks now to raise money for those former residents who are yet to find a permanent place to live. this fundraiser was timed along with sunday streets in hopes that people would stick around and donate. the biggest concern for organizers, on some residents, who have been displayed, is a family of 12 that is in temporary set city housing on treasure island. >> they're not sure where they're going to be, and we're trying to raise money to make sure they can find housing and be able to put down a deposit. >> i know it was hard for us, four kind of single kids in the city, but it's much harder for a family. so, we're trying to help out as much as we can.

into the early morning hours, 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, fog sitting well inland. mist and drizzle coastside and buy, and by 2:00 tomorrow afternoon we should start to see a little more sunshine and that will mean warmer temperatures for us. tonight, overnight temperatures, mid-to-upper 50s, and the cold threat and this overcast is this area of low pressure. it has pushed an towards the east. high pressure will build in tomorrow. more sunshine. the low clouds and fog will back off a little bit sooner. so, temperatures definitely will start to come up. here's a look at the highs in san jose tomorrow, 78. 79, saratoga. coastside, few degrees warmer, a little more sunshine after the morning fog. 53 for half moon bay, san francisco, morning overcast, mist and drizzle, 66 tomorrow afternoon, with peek-a-boo sunshine in your forecast. 79 or 80 for napa.
