>> announcer: right now abc7 news begins with breaking news. that breaking news is in san francisco right now firefighters on the scene of a huge fire this morning. i'm kristen sze. i am eric thomas. several houses destroyed, dozens of people out of their homes. amy hollyfield is live at the scene. >> reporter: good morning. they believe someone set this fire on purpose. police did take a 61-year-old man into custody. here's how they caught him. a witness saw him trunk the scene carrying something like an incendiary device. police were interviewing witnesses they saw the man come back to the scene, pointed him out and police got him. they have no idea why. the arson team is coming out to look at the remains. they say at least three units

were destroyed here in the 100 block of boutwell in the bay view in san francisco. 20 people were displaced. a woman had to run screaming from her home, grabbed her parents and dog and that was it, heard crackling noise, and ran. the red cross is on its way to help. pg&e also on its way out to help firefighters and turn the power off and keep everyone safe. firefighters tell us it was a huge fire. let's hear from the battalion chief part of the third alarm on this four alarm fire. >> it was huge. the building destroyed, closure building destroyed. bravo probably can be rebuilt it has destroyed two houses maybe even a third.

>> reporter: that was the chief richard mcgee. we are just now arriving. the fire started at 3:00, it is now under control. several more firefighters and others at the scene we want to talk to. we expect to have more information as our newscast continues so stay with us as we stay on this developing story. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. san jose fire investigators say illegal fireworks are the likely cause of a small brushfire there. the blaze in the silver creek district broke out last night not far from homes. it was put out quickly only one acre. firefighters found these firecrackers at the scene witnesses reported seeing kids running away. this morning police in east palo alto are warning anyone using illegal fireworks will be caught. police are using shot spotter

technology to immediate track locations where fireworks are set off. this map shows some spots where fireworks have been detected. all fireworks are banned in east palo alto police say they are taking a zero tolerance policy. in richmond police will be using shot spotters to track down anyone firing weapons into the air that system can differentiate fireworks from gunshots. police say the priority will be guns because bullets fired into the air must come down potentially hurting or killing someone. illegal fireworks and dry grass is a dangerous combination in oakland a new budget means the city will face the 4th of july with fewer open stations this year. it is called a rotating brown-out, eight firefighters will sit out for three days. it will save the city four million dollars over the next physical -- fiscal year.

seven sutter hospitals are set to hold another one-day walk out the fifth in eight months in an increasingly bitter contract dispute over health care and sick leave. the sutter hospitals are in san mateo and alameda. court battle begins in sacramento today over 30 million dollars in disputed funds earmarked for the 49ers new stadium. a judge agreed to freeze the funds after the team filed a restraining or last week. a board voted to not allow the money to go to stadium funding. the 9ers say they don't expect the dispute to impact the construction of the project slated to be completed by july of 2014. development deal for california pacific medical center to build two new hospitals in san francisco could be in jeopardy by documents provided by anonymous whistle-blower.
