entire bay area where fireworks are going to be going off tonight it will be spectacular and in their hands it will be safe. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. no sanctioned fireworks displays held in oakland today. police are preparing for the annual illegal display that seeps to light up the sky every 4th of july. the oakland police department is reminding residents that the use of fireworks and celebratory gunfire to mark the holiday is not only dangerous, but illegal. this year units will be using their shot spotter equipment in a new way software will allow dispatchers to distinguish between gunfire and fireworks giving the ability to pinpoint the location and send a unit within a few minutes. san francisco police say the illegal firecracker trade is down sharply this year in chinatown. one big reason is buyers

end in two hours. drivers honked horns in support of the striking nurses yesterday. this marks the fifth time since last september that the nurses have walked off the job on a one-day strike in an ongoing contract dispute. sutter health reports half of its nurses reported for work as scheduled. sutter will keep the striking nurses locked out until sunday when the contracts of replacement nurses expire. sutter says the union has proposed unrealistic wage increases. 49ers scored legal victory in efforts to build a stadium. judge has frozen 30 million dollars in redevelopment funs that santa clara county pulled from the project. the county planned 40 million dollars toward the stadium and already granted the first 10. a abruptly yanked the remaining 30 million last

month so the 9ers are taking the county to court. >> auditor is responsible for distributing the funds, he will not be distributing funds for the time being because the court has ordered him not to do so until the court can decide the issue. >> the loss of funding came after the 49ers broke ground on their future home in santa clara. the team released a statement saying this hearing was a step in the right direction and we expect the court to take time to study key issues. the team and the city strongly believe this is about endorsing the vote cast by citizens in 2010 and honoring the financial commitment made to the stadium project. the two sides head back to court if a couple of weeks. health officials issuing recall of cheese. state department of food and agriculture says the cheeses were not properly pasteurized.

when they arrived he was -- face-down in the bathtub. when they arrived he was closed and dried with past injuries consistent with child abuse. they refused to tell police where the four other kids are. they do think these kids are related to the 3-year-old so they want to check on their condition, given how the 3-year-old had been treated. the three adults face charges of child endangerment and child abuse, they are in jail. police are trying to get pictures of the kids so you know how are looking for. they wanted to get the names out there in case you or someone you know is familiar with these kids. police are asking to you please give them a call. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. san francisco police seized dozens of homemade

explosives from a mission district apartment. they say they had power of 12 1/2 sticks of dynamite. officers arrested 44-year-old jerry lopez yesterday afternoon on felony charges. detectives searched his home after getting a tip from a concerned neighbor. investigators confiscated a lot of illegal fireworks but these devices were in a different league. >> severe damage to a person even one if it were to have exploded in your hand, you could lose a limb easily or your life. >> police say they found 63 explosives, equivalent to about 12 1/2 sticks of dynamite >> great, that's my downstairs neighbors, happy to hear that. >> police ordered a shelter in place for the stretch of 22nd street while the bomb squad conducted is search. they are not sure if the devices were intended to be sold. in southern california,

fire crews are mopping up after a wildfire they were able to put out this morning. take a look these massive flames erupted around 9:00 last night in the mill -- in the hills above palmdale, 50 miles north of los angeles. the flames moved fast. no homes in the area, rather there are homes in the area but no houses were threatened, no word on a cause. city college of san francisco has eight months to show why it should stay in business. the kraed iting commission could -- the an ing commission could vote as soon as next june to take away certification. a review of the school says the college has leadership weakness at all levels. if the school loses its accreditation it would no longer receive public funding. city colleges have more than 90,000 students enrolled.
