>> announcer: abc7 news begins breaking news. two major problems right now on i-80. i'm eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze. the first issue lower deck of the bay bridge some eastbound lanes are closed. terry mcsweeney is live on why about island. >> reporter: just got off the phone with chp two incidents -- both major but separate the first 2, 2:30 this morning eastbound going away from san francisco towards oakland. it began as a high speed chase on the bay bridge. chp saw a car speeding and gave pursuit. pictures on the s-curve of the bay bridge you are going to see a number of cars to the

side they are chp cars and a lot of flares three lanes blocked heading eastbound. at some point you are going to get to this car off to the side, crashed. that is the vehicle that was being chased. it was involved in a crash of the chp got out of car shots were fired however, i'm told by the chp spokesperson that nobody was hit by the bullets. that the person who was driving the car that crashed was injured slightly as a result of the car crash. an hour after that incident, he was transported to the hospital, minor injuries, an hour after that, there was a high speed chase that started in oakland went into san francisco then back towards the east bay. that was a separate high speed chase. all that going on while this was going on off to the side. three lanes blocked eastbound now. not much traffic no impact right now on the vehicles i'm

police activity we'll keep you posted on that we have developing news from east contra costa county, firefighters are keeping an eye on a neighborhood in oakley after a grass fire was ignited by illegal fireworks. the fire started last night a field behind homes. the fire district had to call in for help to contain that blaze. budget cuts reduced the number of fire stations in the district from six to three we'll have a live report from amy hollyfield in the next half hour. in oakland, no major fires were sparked bythons of illegal fireworks last night. we -- by thousands of illegal fireworks last night. we should find out later if arrests were made. >> commercial grade fireworks were launched. accompanied by explosions of m after 80s, cherry bombs and bottle rockets.

blame. investigators say his story doesn't match the evidence. this morning the family of an armed domestic violence suspect shot and killed by vallejo police is asking if more could have been done to save his life. investigators say 44-year-old marshal tobin reached for a gun after getting out of a vehicle yesterday morning. police responded to reports of a man with a weapon. police ordered him to put the gun down even tased him but say he refused. it is the fourth officer involved shooting in have a know six weeks. san francisco medical examiner identified a body recovered from the bay as that of victor murillo. police believe he fell into the water off pier 30. a passerby spotted his body off the embarcadero yesterday north of the bay bridge. murillo worked as a prison guard in vacaville. police are treating his death as an accident.

this morning fish and game officials continue to search for a mountain lion which attacked a 63-year-old man. crews searched the area near the attack site. the man was attacked by the lion early sunday morning. the attack lasted two minutes while the man was asleep in a sleeping bag. he was treated and released for puncture and scratch wounds. officials will use especially trained dogs and motion sensor cameras. more than 200,000 people were treated to an amazing fireworks display over the waterfront in san francisco last night. there was some fog but not enough to totally obscure the show. there was two identical displays going off at the same time. the fireworks were launched from a barge off pier 39 and the municipal pier at aquatic park. the show was a crowd pleaser.

problems october on i-80. one as you heard from terry -- police activity, a couple chases lower deck of the bay bridge and crashes and lanes are blocked out of san francisco into oakland. right now traffic maps not picking up slowing. i was concerned because with our live shot of the incline section even though we can see westbound flowing haven't seen too many cars eastbound i was expecting a few cars. just trying to check on that to make sure nothing else is happening. also, dixon area we have a major problem there, police activity as well. i-80 closed if both directions at pit school road. heavy traffic in both directions even an hour ago traffic has been reported complete standstill as you can see traffic spotter sent in a picture. we also have a traffic spotter stuck in the back-up in one

the 21-year-old says the man was drowning 1500 feet from his assigned lifeguard post. >> someone drowning, i'm looking, i don't see anyone. they are way down there. i started running. i was worried about the guy not anything else because he was blue. >> the company lopez worked for is defending its action in a statement it says: we have liability issues and can't go out of the protected area. at least seven other lifeguards have quit in protest. they say they would rather save lives instead of their jobs. hear more about the story on "good morning america" beginning at 7:00. to a really big cat. take a look at this. that's an 800 pound short fin moko shark 15 miles off the coast of southern california. group lured the shark, hooked it and hauled it aboard. it took four men to weigh the shark. but it was too heavy for the

from the k-9 memorial foundation. i talked with the president of the foundation by phone. >> my son sean, his dream was to be a k-9 cop. >> reporter: he was killed inafter 5 last november. he was a military policeman with the national guard outfit out of san jose. before his military service, officer bell met sean when he was an explorer. >> he was inquisitive about the dogs and made it clear his plan was to be a k-9 handler. >> reporter: he died at age 22. his mom says what she will not let die is his dream. last tuesday during a city council session she gave a $10,000 donation to the city of santa clara, the donation allows for a replacement k-9 forever the police and sean's legacy to continue a dog was retired last month his replacement hits the streets this summer.

even though we have thicker clouds and more widespread clouds this morning, it is dry. let's talk about what going on temperature-wise. 48 now in santa rosa, 60 in antioch. everybody else in the 50s. monterey bay homogenized, 53 to 57°. this afternoon stronger sea breeze, cooler conditions, that sea breeze will keep clouds around longer today and bring in cooler air off the ocean. mostly cloudy, patchy drizzle possible tonight, warming trend for all of us this weekend. you can head to the coast for free ac, definitely going to be warmer around the bay to hot inland. today we drop i agree in san francisco, two -- drop a degree in san francisco, concord one of the biggest drops down to 79 don't think you will need air conditioning this afternoon. big dome of high pressure continues over most of the country. we are on the back side it,

bay bridge toll unaffected by this major problem on the lower deck of the bay bridge. also, the other problem is in dixon. freeway shutdown in both directions of i-80 at pitt school road. with the waze traffic app you see it is jammed in both directions for several miles. you can use the waze app to help you around that closure. 4:55. new field poll out this morning shows california voters overwhelmingly oppose the automatic spending cuts that would fall on education if governor brown's tax initiative fails in november. public schools in grades k-12 and community colleges stan to lose nearly 5 1/2 billion dollars of the six -- in state funding cut if voters reject the plan to raise sales tax and tax on high income enders. the poll shows 72% of all voters opposed triggered
