captioned by closed captioning services, inc. developing news. sky 7 hd shows commute chaos that stretched from highway 101 across the lower deck of the bay bridge. traffic backed up nearly seven miles most of the morning because of a car crash after a highway patrol chase and shooting. good morning i'm cheryl jennings. and i'm kristen sze. here's what it looks like now. you are looking at i-80 in san francisco skyway to the bay bridge approach. traffic is finally flowing smoothly after many, many hours of pain. we have live team coverage. frances dinglasan is monitoring the traffic situation. katie marzullo is in san francisco with commuter

frustration. >> terry mcsweeney has been at the scene since 4:00 this morning. >> reporter: this has been the place to be here you have the s-curves, eastbound lanes of the bay bridge right around here is where they had high speed chase, shooting and tens of thousands of drivers had to crawl along at less than one mile per hour. c -- c the chp says this vehicle raced across the at 100 miles an hour officers saw the driver lose control bounce off the barriers and end up on the other side of the vehicle. when they approached the vehicle they saw a gun in the man's hand. >> there was a shooting the vehicle traveled another 700 feet down the freeway and became disabled. both occupants were detained. >> reporter: chp officer opened fire those are bullet holes in the side of the car but those bullets did not hit the driver or his female passenger. the man threw his gun over the

side of the bridge and was realized. this is what happened next. san francisco police in ann chp investigators closed all but one lane eastbound leading to a traffic jam of epic proportions that began 5:00 this morning and go worse. >> about an hour and a half to get -- on some cities to here itch >> reporter: how long have you been on the bridge? >> about an hour and a half. >> reporter: are you going to make it up the rest of your day? >> hopefully. >> reporter: 10 this morning the investigators gave the all-clear within minutes things seemed normal after an unusual morning. the driver of the car was taken to the hospital with injuries because of the accident. he's being charged with a decision ui and weapons charge. one other story in the middle of that this morning, someone stole a car in oakland drove across the bay bridge with chp on his tail tried to come back,

ran into this traffic jam couldn't get out of it. people charged two people. for more on traffic which is not bad now, let's check in with frances dinglasan. it is looking better where terry is. i want to show you the skyway heading to the lower deck of the bay bridge still a few minute delays, five minutes north 101 up into san francisco that's about it. what is worse is traffic heading to the golden gate bridge this was an alternate on doyle drive to the golden gate bridge delays are a half hour you are better off heading to the bay bridge lower deck if that's your normal lute. san mateo bridge has been a good alternate all morning minor slowing southbound 101 approaching 92 all lanes open. we had a traffic spotter report she was stuck on the bridge for two hours and 15 minutes, luck delay is in the past now. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is live at harvest -- harrison and essex

streets where there was a big back-up this morning. >> reporter: look at the on-ramp now all clear as terry mentioned lanes reopened about an hour ago smooth sailing at this point was not the case earlier this morning and for several hours this morning it looked like this, cars backed up on the on-ramp. also down harrison to second street and beyond. also down essex around the bend you couldn't see it any more the bus lane on essex was stopped one bus driver told me his bosses told him as soon as he got unstuck he was to head back to the terminal. >> gridlock in the last hour. >> usually i'm excited about my commute because i'm going in the reverse direction. this morning i have no idea what is going on. >> i would like to get work. >> i supposed to be there at 8:00.

>> too bad they didn't tell us what was happening, other than looking and finding out the bridge is closed. >> i'm losing money now. brutal. >> reporter: that last driver told me when he finally got up to the intersection he was going to make a left and get his bike and take bart to the east bay instead. i talked with chp and they told me part of reason the lanes were closed for so long was that the san francisco police department had to get on scene and conduct its own investigation. katie marzullo, abc7 news. developing news, we've just learned two more people have been arrested in the high profile murder of a pimp. vic lee joins us live with new information. >> reporter: we have learned that san francisco police arrested antonio gillton yesterday afternoon. he is the nephew of barry gilton with his girlfriend was charged last month with

killing the man he claims was pimping his 17-year-old daughter. the victim of that mur was calvin sneed shot in his car june 4th. police last night arrested a second man alfonso williams. both men have been charged with murder in connection with this case as well as weapons-related charges gilton and his girlfriend pleaded not guilty last month to the murder charge(ue: their family, friends and their attorneys say they were desperate to get their daughter back but they did not kill sneed. prosecutors belief this bolsters theirs case. a story which has received national publicity. the district attorney has said he understands a parents' frustration but adds, vigilante murder is still mur. we will have more on this -- still murder. we will have more tonight vic lee, abc7 news. in san mateo workers have

broken a gas main forcing evacuations. as we zoom in there's a fire truck there and crews digging construction crew pierced a gas main while digging this is next to the campus of argon high. the fire department evacuated some homes as a precaution until pg&e gives the all-clear. san leandro police believe a teenaged girl's father sexually assaulted her for several years until she reported the abuse this week. the 34-year-old father remains in custody. his 16-year-old daughter told a doctor monday about the abuse. her doctor contacted child protective services and cps call the police. he will appear in court tomorrow. search continues today for a missing 16-year-old girl who authorities worry might be in jeopardy her 3-year-old

brother remains in critical condition possible victim of child abuse police were called to a home in oakland monday about the 3-year-old. four of his siblings were missing. three were found with a relative. the mother, stepfather and babysitter are under arrest. police opened that investigation because of the extent of the boy's injuries and evidence of past abuse. investigators are still trying to locate the 16-year-old. major development in the trayvon martin murder case in florida. a judge's decision on suspect george zimmerman's new request for bail. debris crews are targeting in a special cleanup operation underway right now in the oakland estuary.

>> closed captioning brought to you by mancini sleepworld. a florida judge ruled today that a neighborhood watch volunteer can be released from jail. the judge granted bond for a second time to george zimmerman set at one million dollars. zimmerman's $150,000 bond was revoked last month after prosecutors told the judge he and his wife lied to the court about how much money they had during an april bond hearing. firefighters are keeping a close eye on a neighborhood in oakley after a grass fire was ignited by illegal fireworks. the 2 1/2 acre fire started 10:30 last it in in a field

behind a dozen homes. the east -- east contra costa fire district had to call for help from neighboring your dishes to contain the blaze recent budget cuts reduced the number of fire stations from six to three. engineers from cal recycle toured the oakland estuary and didn't like what they saw. the state agency plans to clear debris such as abandoned ships out of the water. officials say that causes navigational hazards. the vessels also cause problems out -- for people trying to enjoy the water. >> we saw abandoned tugs, 80 to 90 foot, a number of abandoned fishing vessels, marine debris, a number of older lick just dip lap tated structures that -- dilapidated
