by noontime we will be topping out in the low 60s in the inland valleys and temperatures climbing into the 90s inland so a hot day. at the coast numbers in the mid-60s. more warm weather is on its way for much of the work week. i'll tell you about it later. >> a police rescued a quad drawplegic man from the back of a moving van. neighbors called 911 out of concern for the man in the summer heat. >> vallejo police say this woman of north vallejo locked the 57-year-old quad draw paw regionic man for whom she worked as primary caregiver in the back of a moving truck and left him unattended. >> it was a relatively warm day. the man no access to strength lated air, no access to water, and we believe that that was inappropriate. >> james told police she left the victim so she could go to the bathroom.

but a man walk ago doing heard someone calling for help from the back of the truck and immediately called police. >> they opened up the doors and located a 57-year-old male quad drawplegic victim and two dogs and a mattress in back of the truck. >> this woman didn't want to appear on camera but she knew there was something odd. >> it was very odd because there's no u-haul truck just sitting and that was kind of odd and caught my attention. >> after questioning james, they learned she was also wand for felony burglary. she was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of elder abuse. the victim is doing well, just suffering some dehydration issues. although he is not 65 or older he may be considered the victim of elder abuse simply because he falls under the legal definition of a dependent dull. in vallejo, nick smith, abc7 news. >> in this morning the police

are investigating two separate shooting in oakland. one is in east oakland. an argument between two men in a garage end in gunfire. one suspect was arrested. about the same time on the other side of town another shooting. this one on 11th street in west oakland and that left a man dead. crime stoppers are offering ing $10,000 reward in a case. new did details on a police shooting last evening in downtown oakland. here's a video of the scene at 7th and clay street. two officers were in the area. a woman comes running towards them waving her arms trying to get their hi tension. a car then drove up on to the sidewalk in what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to run her over. that's when one officer drew his weapon, shot at the car, who was then struck a police car. the person was injured and taken to the hospital. the first phase forecast

high-speed rail are project is moving forward with the state senate narrowly approving funding. it allocated $8 billion to build the initial segment between bakersfield and nadera. by 2028 passengers could ride a bullet reason to twain los angeles and san francisco with speeds up to 200 miles an hour. we have more. >> now caltrain zips down the peninsula. if and when the high-speed praline is finished the trip from fran to los angeles would only take about three hours. >> i would be in favor. if the price was right, i would absolutely take the train. >> the first phase of the rail line is now off and running. construction could begin early next year on a 130-mile stretch through the central valley. the state senate gave final approval to spend nearly $8 billion to get pro project going. itit was a tough sell in a tough

lock. he's facing charges including mug ago santa cruz woman back in november. state and federal wildlife trackers may be getting closer to finding a mountain lion who mauled a man last weekend. the game and fish warden with tracking dogs found fresh tracks. cougar, including the remains of a domestic cat that appeared to be attacked. they are searching the area along a river where a 63-year-old camper was mauled in his sleeping bag. he was bit spend clawed around his head and arms but he is expected to be okay. a sample of lion saliva from his clothing confirms he was attack by a female lion. that's extremely rare. only 15 attacks have been confirmed since 1890 and six were fatal. the buzz among san francisco's bee keeper is the a attack that killed hundreds if not thousands of bees two weeks ago.

>> full containment is expected today an 1200-acre fire near redding. it broke out thursday afternoon in the happy valley area. it destroyed two outbuildings, damaged five homes and forced evacuations for another 80 homes. most of the evacuees have been allowed to return home. but some roads in the area remain closed. the fire is now 60% contained. firefighters are looking for the children they believe may have started a brush fire in south san francisco. it broke out near the iconic south san francisco, the industrial city sign shortly before 5:00 p.m. yesterday. there's the sign right there. it shows smoke billowing from the two-acre fire. investigators say kids may have been playing with fireworks. they knock it down before it could reach homes on sign hill. bicyclists that ride bart than kay their bikes on board all day in august. they lifting a ban during

off. we look for numbers to come up but it is chilly in the north bay valleys. 55 in oakland and 55 san carlos, 60 san jose. you will enjoy a little bit of a warmer day out there with numbers in the mid-80s in the santa clara valley. so just a few areas of coastal fog this morning and it's not going to last very long. for everyone we will be a little warmer today but then the hottest days of the week will be tuesday and wednesday where numbers will climb into the mid-90s. we will still see those 60s at the shoreline, more like mid-60s, so pretty nice temperature spread from the coast to the inland valleys but the numbers will be well above normal by the middle of the work week. so not much in the way of fog to talk of this morning. just at about a couple hundred feet. that's why we are looking at those 90s returning to our inland valleys. but really tempered around the bay with 70s and 80s and then you will see some of those upper 60s hanging on in san francisco. but upper 60s as well around

point ray. a pretty nice beach day as well if you bring the sweatshirt and allow for a bit of a westerly wind. here's a look at hurricane daniel, which is at 80 miles an hour. a category one. it continues to move to the west and it will weaken as it moves into the cooler waters of the pacific. but you will notice around automatic poke co, mexico, we are looking at showers and thunderstorms from another system that will be a tropical depression most likely in the next day or so. so some activity in the pacific. we talk about the heat in the nation's midsection. numbers are in the triple ding the from fresno to san francisco. a piece of that energy and high pressure building westward today. that's why we are warming up but really pretty coastty from sacramento to the inland valleys. the hot weather once again encompassing much of the midwest while we look at this trough visiting us tomorrow. that will bring the numbers down a couple degrees.

>> the state senate has just passed a bill intended to shield undocumented immigrants from status checks by the police required by a hotly debated arizona law. abc7 news reporter reports it was could be signed by the governor. >> the assemblyman sponsored the california trust account. it passed the state senate 21-13. this stops local police from referring any detainee to immigration officials unless they were convicted of a violent or serious felony. >> they may be a victim of domestic violence and you don't report it because you think you will be deported. this is not the america we want. >> right now the federal secure communities program allows fingerprints sent to the fbi to local police for background police to also be sent to site.

would lower taxes and eliminate government red tape to help the private sector create jobs. at 2:00 this afternoon a special prayer service will be held on the santa clara valley medical center in san jose to remember those buried at a long forgotten potter's field. now the site of a hospital expansion project. the photos and blue presents show the cemetery existed in 1932 but any detailed records were kept. the graveyard got paved over and was forgotten until february. that's when construction crews rediscovered the graves when they broke ground behind the hospital's emergency room. today's prayer service precedes the move of 100 could haveins and another 100 graves will remain untouched. the newest member of the santa clara police department is in training but he's not a person. he's a police dog. as abc7 news reporter sergio romo tells us, the 8-9 has been added to the force because of a

treatment after fallen soldier. >> four dogs make up the 8-9 force of the st. clairea police and the newest is this doing, argo. he's part of a gift from the k-9 foundation. >> my son shawn, his dream was to be a k-9 cop. >> he was killed in afghanistan last november. he was a military policeman with the national guard outfit out of san jose. before his military service, officer chris bell met shawn when he was an explorer with the santa clara police department. >> he was inquisitive about the dogs and made it quite clear has plan was to be a k-9 handler. >> he died at age 22 but his mom said he will not let die was dream to be a k-9 handler and public service. last weekend she gave a $10,000 donation to the city of santa clara. it allows for a replacement k-9 for the can't clara police and for shawn's legacy to continue.

click on "see it on tv." malware is not the only attack, there's also the problem of fake e-mails, fall phishing. they said the imposters are out there getting money from victims >> i saw a message from norton. >> eva always makes sure her computer is secure from hackers. and ironically it is trying to be secure that led her right into a scam. >> i thought for sure this was a norton person it. start when had she received an e-mail offering for her to renew her norton protection plan for two years. she said oh, good, give me your credit card number and i did. >> not only did she give her credit card, she let a woman get into her computerly remote control thinking she would up date her norton act. >> so i let her into my computer and she fixed everything that she had to do.

she was very sweet. she was very professional, and i 4 highly respect of her. >> however, three months later eva found ought is that $120 payment never appeared on her norton account. folks at norton told eva you never paid us. but on her credit card statement it clearly shows the $120 payment to paypal norton for norton renewed. so why didn't it get there? eva called paypal. >> i said what is this? who has $1,920? she said i will take care of it. >> paypal insist it had did pay norton and authority ton kept saying it never got the money. finally eva found out what really happened. >> i was convinced that lead was from norton. but she wasn't. >> the e-mail was a fake. sent by a norton imposter. the big tipoff, norton said, we never use paypal as a form of payment. if someone took her money

through paypal, it wasn't norton. also, the company never sends e-mail using a yahoo account, which is what the imposter did. paypal told eva to dispute the charge with her credit card company but it was already past the 60-day deadline to make a claim. >> i had it by then. i said i'm going to abc7 on your side. i know michael will get this straightened out. >> we contacted paypal about that $120 payment. soon after they decided to reimburse the money to eva. they would not discuss the case discussing privacy rules but pointed to a policy that guards consumers against fraud. paypal said we take time to understand each individual issue and concern and do everything we can to achieve a fair revolution. eva said she's learned a tough lesson. >> call the real company's telephone company and make sure this is -- they are the ones

search abc7 news san francisco alarm. and the list goes on and sound effects. the list is long. what's going on weather-wise? >> we are looking at a warmer day. it's today. if you like that, it will be a pretty nice summer day out there. here's a live look at san jose this morning. you will warm up about four degrees for a high of 84 today. yesterday you were 80. taking you to a little above normal readings. and in fact we will look for the north end of the bay to be just as nice. so a live doppler 7 hd right now shows a little bit in the way of low cloudiness and not much of it is making its way across the bay. we have some clouds in san francisco, along the coast. but the marine layer is pretty welcome pressed this morning and so that means a quick burn off and warmer temperatures. it's 48 right now in santa rosa. good morning, oakland, 55 for you. 57 in fremont with 60 in san jose and the low clouds and fog along the central coast from

monterey to santa cruz with the burn off in the next couple hours. coastal clouds this morning. sunny and warmer on the average of 2 to 4 degrees. we will still have the sea breeze at the coast up to about 15 miles an hour. it won't be that strong. we will look for numbers to get pretty hot inland come tuesday and wednesday with numbers into the mid-90s. so here's a look at what you can expect today. the clouds quickly retreating and we will see numbers in the mid-80s in the south bay with mid-90s for the try value lee and comfortable 60s at our coast. 70s around the bay. this is hurricane daniel not pose ago threat. win at 80 americans. it will continue to weaken but there's another tropical disturbance around acapulco that could provide more showers and thunderstorms but overall quiet in the pacific. hot weather remains in the east. the excessive heat will stay there. but triple digits from

sacramento to fresno today. and numbers in mid-90s in the reno. a potential for fires there even though we aren't looking at an offshore flow in the short term. always worried about that. midweek will feature the warmer weather. today warmer temperatures with numbers ranking from 60s half moon day, 10 fremont, 84 san jose, cloverdale, 95. so the further north you dough the warming really gets going. and 73 richmond. closer to the bay pretty comfortable. the clouds now around santa cruz and watsonville. 85 in hollister. if you are headed to the a's game tonight it looks nice with numbers starting out in the 60s and dropping through the upper 50s. and the look ahead, maybe a couple degrees of cooling. you will feel it tomorrow. you might not. you will still see the low 90s inland. and you will notice the warmup getting started monday but really tuesday and wednesday
