>> terry: in the news this saturday morning, what is that noise? the answer led a bay area woman to call police. you won't believe what they found in the back of a moving van. oakland police see a woman running down the street screaming then she sees what she is screaming about and they open fire. good saturday morning. i'm terry mcsweeney. let's start with a look at the weekend forecast. here is lisa argen. >> here is the roof camera and flags are blowing a little bit. we have fog along the golden gate bridge and along the coast. monterey coast, santa cruz, it's pretty gray right now. temperatures are going to warm up and nice and sunny everywhere today with upper 50s to mid 60s by noontime. then look what happens.

we are talking mid-60s at our coast. mid 90s inland. tri-valley is getting warm where you would expect it but in the south bay, a beautiful day today 84 in san jose. near 80 on the peninsula. we do have changes for the rest of the weekend. that is all coming up. >> a cry for help from the back of a locked van leads to the rescue of a quadriplegic man in vallejo. the woman who left him there was no stranger to law enforcement. >> vallejo police say this woman of north vallejo locked the 57-year-old man in the back of a moving truck and left him una attended. >> it was relatively a warm day. they had no access to ventilated air, no access to water. we believe that was inappropriate. she left the victim so she could go to the bathroom but someone walking the dog heard

someone calling for help and immediately phoned police. >> they rolled up the doors and located at a 57-year-old male victim and mattress in the back of a truck. >> i saw a u-haul truck sitting there. >> this resident did not want to appear on camera but she knew something was odd. >> there is no u-haul trucks parked sitting. >> after questioning james, they learned she was also wanted for felony burglary. she was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of elder abuse. >> the victim is doing well. just suffering some dehydration issues. although he is not 65 or older he may be considered the victim of elder abuse because he falls under the legal definition of a dependent adult. >> this morning, oakland police are investigating two separate killings that happened about the same time in opposite parts of

that city. first happened at 6:30 in the evening. police say an argument between two men ended go gunfire and one suspect was arrested. on on the other side of town, another shooting. this one on 11th street in west oakland also left a man dead. crime stopers is offering a $10,000 reward in that case. >> new details this morning on a police shooting in downtown oakland. here is video from sky 7 hd at seventh and clay streets. two officers were in the area, a woman comes running towards them trying to get their attention. they say a car drove up on onto sidewalk what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to run her over. they shot at the driver. nobody was struck by the gunfire. the suspect was injured in the crash and taken to the who hospital. >> the f.b.i. is investigating a

laser attack on planes approaching sfo. sky west commuter jet and virgin airbus reported being flashed by lasers. they were tracked to an area some 14 miles south-southeast of palo alto. lasers can blind a cockpit crew creating a situation so dangerous, a new law makes it a specific crime punishable by five years in prison. san francisco prosecutors say new video evidence show the san francisco couple conspired to kill a man that they say pimped out their daughter. they say they planned out the shooting death of calvin sneed. surveillance video shows the three men meeting on a san francisco street shortly before the murder and then driving off in a rented car armed with a

..40 caliber handgun. >> it shows the three individuals coming together. there is a weapon taken out of a vehicle. then we know through telephone sites that we placed the three individuals near the place of the murder. gascon called it a drive-by shooting that was premeditated. police or the lookout that escaped from a medium security jail. he was part of a detail putting the cafeteria at the 23568 thursday night. they say he escaped through a door with a wooden lok. state and federal wildlife trackers may be getting closer to find the mountain lion that mauled a man in rural county. they found fresh tracks and other signs. a cougar a domestic cat appeared

to have been attacked. they are searching the area along the yuba river. 63-year-old camp per was mauled in the sleeping bag. he is expected to be okay. a sample of the saliva from the clothing confirms he was attacked by a female mountain lion. that is extremely rare. only 15 such attacks have been confirmed since 1890. the buzz among the we keepers the attack that killed thousands of bees two weeks ago. the details on the destruction called by vandals in bernal heights. take a look at this video. this occurred two years ago this month. some 200,000 bees were killed. nobody was ever arrested in that case. the latest attack occurred at alemany farm which is run by

the first phase of california's high speed rail project is moving forward with the state senate narrowly approving funding. vote yesterday al oh indicates $8 billion to build the initial segment between madera and bakersfield. you would be able to ride a

train between san francisco and los angeles at speeds up to 220 miles an hour. >> now, cal trains zipping down the peninsula, if and when the high speed line, trip from san francisco to los angeles would take about three hours. >> yeah, if the price would right. i absolutely would take the train. >> the first phase of the rail line is up and running. construction could begin next year through the central valley. state senate gave final approval to spend $8 billion to get the project going. passing with the bare minimum number of votes. >> only conclusion i can come to today, that this is the wrong plan in the wrong place, at the wrong time. >> some lawmakers were afraid approving so much money for the train might doom the governor's initiative. the package approved includes two billion to upgrade local

train service in the bay area. $700 million will go to electrifying caltrain. the mayor was against the high speed rail lane if it involved an elevated track through his city. now it will be below ground. >> can you imagine, what it would be like embarcadero freeway go through. it's obnoxious but that is gone. >> a traveler says the gold plate construction project, he likes the high speed trains in europe. >> ticket prices wouldn't cover the cost. >> one-way ticket would cost $85 in today's dollars. despite the legislature's vote and the governor's support it doesn't guarantee the job will be finished over the next 20 years. the state still needs billions more to extend the line all the way from san francisco to los angeles. full containment is expected

today on a 200 acre wildfire near redding. it broke out in the happy valley area. the fire destroyed two outbuildings and damaged five homes and forced evacuations for 80 homes. most of evacuees have been allowed to return but the shasta sheriff's office say some roads are still closed. firefighters are looking for the children they believe may have started a brush fire in south san francisco. it broke out near iconic the industrial city sign shortly before 5:00 yesterday afternoon. you see that sign right there from sky 7 hd. you see smoke rising up. kids may have been playing with fireworks. firefighters knocked down that fire before it could reach homes. bicyclists who ride bart will be able to take their wheels aboard trains all day long on friday starting in august. they are lifting a ban on bikes on friday trains part of a

program. they want to see how well trains can carry bicycleists during busiest hours of the day. existing bike restrictions are monday through thursday have not changed. san francisco commuters using popular muni rides will have to find other ways to get around this weekend because construction has shut down the n-judah line. the j-church line are shut down on church street between reservoir and 14th. there will be three more shutdowns as the summer goes on. they are replacing old railways. half the nation remains in the clutches of an intense heat wave. excessive heat warnings are in effect for 26 states from kansas to new york. last night thunderstorms added to the misery like this one in tennessee. two people killed in the smoky mountains. yesterday 17,000 lost power in chicago. third consecutive day of triple digit temperatures.

temperatures in the upper 50s. 62 in antioch with 49 in santa rosa. we were down to 46 earlier in napa. that colder air is draining into the valleys. factor in sunshine we're back up into the low 50s here. a nice start to the day. comfortable out there and clouds will definitely lift here. we got lots of clouds along the golden gate bridge. heer a look what you can expect. coastal clouds will be hanging along the shoreline the but peel them back and sunny at our beaches. in fact temperatures will be coming up a few degrees. it will get hot into next week. more like tuesday and wednesday from mid-90s. here is the advice than i believe picture, cloudiness -- here is the visible picture, cloudiness down to monterey. we're starting out kind of gray there. sea breeze, not that strong. we'll see temperatures quite

comfortable from point reyes, upper 60s. half moon bay, temperatures will be fairly typical and then we'll look for the numbers to warm as you head eastward. so this trend is not going to continue. we do have an upper level trough that will begin to knock our temperatures down a couple degrees before we warm up again. we will call it typical summertime weather. 103 in fresno today. really mother nature not extending the air-conditioning in the valley. 108 in palm springs. we'll be looking at warmer weather heading our way not until the middle of week. if you like it hot, we worry about the fire danger around here and relative humidity. closer to the coast and with the low clouds and fog, but certainly it is dry around the bay. so be careful and enjoy the day at livermore. 84 in san jose. san francisco coming in about

topping our news, the state senate has passed an immigration bill intended to shield undocumented from status checks by police. tomas ramon reports the bill must clear by the state assembly. >> they soornd the act. it passed the senate. it stops local police from referring any detainee from immigration officials unless that person has been convicted of a violence or serious felony. >> they may be a victim of domestic violence you don't record it because you think you may be deported. this is not the america we warrant. >> right now they allow

fingerprints that are sent to the f.b.i. for background checks to also be sent to ice. ice can then ask local police to hold the person for deportation proceeding. but not reporting all criminal violations doesn't sit well with the minutemen who want to enforce lawsuit. >> if somebody is illegal and they are caught with anything, they should be reported ice. >> he says the new measure takes the teeth out of law enforcement. >> all its doing is taking more power away from law enforcement to let illegal aliens do what they want to do. >> california had 2.6 million undocumented aliens. >> they say this measure will give them some peace of mind. >> if they get pulled over for a ticket and wonder if their illegal will come up.

>> the program states it prioritizes illegals with criminal records. california trust act makes them go before a procedural hearing before being sent to the assembly. >> congress has more work to do to keep student rates low and fund the transportation project. bill signed into law includes potential funding for suicide barrier on the golden gate bridge. the bridge rail foundation has been working for years to get that funding. as for the nation's other highway project, the president says the law will help keep thousands of construction workers on the job and he doesn't want to just stop at spending on existing projects. >> for months i have been calling on congress to take half the money that we are no longer spending on war and use it for nation building. there is work to do here and

hundreds of thousands of construction workers ready to do it. republican presidential candidate mitt romney says he would lower taxes, and eliminate government red tape to help the private sector create jobs. at 2:00 this afternoon a special prayer service will be held on the santa clara valley medical center grounds in san jose to remember those buried in a long forgotten pauper field. it shows the cemetery existed in 1932 but no detailed records were kept. pauper's graveyard got paved over and construction crews rediscovered the graves when they broke ground. the removal of hundred coffins that are in direct path of construction. an estimated 1300 graves will remain untouched. >> a nine-year gamble is paying off for a north bay tribe that has cleared the last federal hurdle to open a huge casino

neither rohnert park. they can move forward with plans to build a 3,000 slot machine casino covering half a million square feet. they allowed the compact to take effect. plans call for the a hotel to be built. tribe will hold talks with sonoma county leaders to minimize environmental impact. 28th annual fillmore jazz festival starts this morning. fillmore street between jackson and eddy has been transformed to the west coast's largest free jazz festival. there will be two dozen bands including a tribute to late etta james. it's expected to draw about 90,000 people with 12 blocks and gourmet food and arts and craft. it runs today and tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

money from victims. eva of san mateo always made sure her computer is secure from hackers and ironically it's trying to be secure that led her right into a scam. >> i thought for sure. >> it started when she received an e-mail offering to renew her norton protection plan for two years for $120. it sounded good and she called the phone number and spoke to a woman. >> she said good. give me your credit number and i did. >> not only that she let her get in the computer by remote control thinking she would update her norton account. >> i let her into my computer and she fixed everything she had. she was very sweet. she was very professional. i highly respected her. >> she found out the $120

apparently never appeared. folks at norton you never paid us. here on the credit statement it clearly shows the payment to paypal on norton, why didn't it get there. she called pay pal. >> i said what is this. who has the $120. she said i will take care of it. >> pay pal insisted it did pay norton and norton said they never got the money. eva found out what really happened. >> i was convinced that lady was from norton but she wasn't. >> the e-mail was a fake. big tip-off, we never use paypalace a form of payment. if somebody took her money through paypal it wasn't norton. they never send e-mails through yahoo account. they told to dispute the charge

with a credit card company but it was already past the 60-day deadline. >> i'm going to abc. >> 7 on your side, i know michael will get this straightened out. >> we contacted paypal about $120 payment. soon after they decided to reimburse that money to eva. paypal would not discuss the case citing privacy rules but the policy which guards consumers against fraud. paypal said we take time to understand each individual issue and concern and do everything we can to achieve a fair resolution. eva says, she has learned a tough lesson. >> call the real company's telephone number and make sure they are the ones that sent the e-mail. >> norton says it never sends out e-mails asking for money or credit card number. if you receive an e-mail from any business make sure its real.

look up the company phone number the fog that was here previously apparently long gone. nice blue skies over the bay bridge right now. >> but we have a different story at our coast. from mount tam you can see the fog. it is compressed marine layer. that is the key to the forecast today. it will shallower and sunny sooner. and sea breeze points to a slightly warmer day. roof camera, all that sunshine into the east bay. you will be warming into the 90s today. live doppler 7-hd, low clouds and fog. banked up along the shoreline and they will stay there for the time being pulling back just a little bit for some sunshine at our coast. pretty mild temperatures from

point reyes down to half moon bay today. mild for us in the 60s. but we are looking at temperatures already in the low 60s from san jose to mountain view and fremont with the sunshine. sunny in redwood city, 65 for you. mild start in napa right now but earlier you were at 46 degrees along the monterey bay. it's cloudy. 53 in watsonville but sunny in gilroy. we'll look for the sun to pull back. we're talking numbers in the mid 70s for santa cruz. highlights, some coastal clouds and look for those clouds to continue to peel back allowing for sunshine and warmer conditions today, getting hot by tuesday and wednesday. if you like it warm, we'll see this fog all about disappear and more of a northerly gradient will warm us up. we are looking at fairly typical

for this time of year from the spread from the 60s here from richmond district to the 70s in oakland. mid 80s that is a switch for santa clara valley. 90s as you head out to danville and antioch. most areas you'll notice a little bit of a bump up. we're taking it to the pacific where hurricane daniel a minimal hurricane goes into cooler water. it probably won't be a hurricane by later on today. still, we have a tropical depression here that could turn into a hurricane in the next day or so. it's been hot in the nation's midsection and a little of that warmth heading through the valley. temperatures just around normal. maybe a degree or two warmer than average but wait until the middle of week if you like it warmer. 95 in yosemite with 81 in the northern sierra. 70 in big sur.

beautiful day, no matter where you'll be. pretty hot in palm springs, 108. 73 in richmond today. numbers around the bay may be a degree or two warmer but warmth you feel will be further east into inland valleys. san jose, 84 today. it will be 80 in fremont. that is coming up about 4-505 degrees today. 72 in watsonville. with mid 60s in monterey. but awfully foggy right there. nice and clear for a's game with not much in the way of fog. that will be trend for the next couple of days. numbers in the 60s at our coast and warmest weather coming in tuesday and wednesday with mid 90s. nothing too extreme. it should be beautiful today on fillmore street. it looks nice out there. >> we couldn't grab on to any kind of consistency. >> this is it. it's been consistency. thanks a lot.
