trip took unfortunate turn when he break the left leg. his best friend dan grass of sunnyvale with him. >> kind of took unplanned stop and rolled his leg. he broke his leg and tore some of the tendon in the ankle. >>reporter: camp counselor elizabeth and bryce of santa cruz happened to be in the are area. they radio for help. and in about an hour a chp hopper arrived. chopper landed safely but all of sudden one of the 2 officers was down. his head bleeding. >> it was just an awful sound of the guy's skull getting fractured off the edge of the rotor blade. i knew i mean the blade couldn't hit a rock or something so i knew it hit him. >> as luck would have it he's a critical care doctor with the air force. despite broken leg he hobbled to the helicopter and went to work providing life saving aid to the officer. with the help of °and 2 camp counselors he established and airway. bagged the officer with oxygen and put pressure on his head.

>> major development in high profile san francisco murder case. second suspect in the 2008 killing of father and 2 sons was captured in north carolina north of charlotte. police say reyes killed 3 members of the pwloen family in the case of mistaken identity and gang violence. nick smith is here. nick they wanted him for a listening time. >> san francisco police have had an open warrant for reyes known gang member for more than 4 years. today they caught their man. 31-year-old alfredo reyes is accused of killing 3

members of the family in the case of gang violence and myself taken identity. earlier today reyes and another ms 13 gang member 25-year-old jose if captured and arrested at this home in north carolina. neighbors were shocked. >> we didn't know anything about it. they showed up. they showed up one day moved i in. him if it's completely insane. >>reporter: police say reyes attempted to jump from a wonder o. but was stopped by detectives. investigators have had a 5 million dollar arrest warrant out for ray necessary connection with the murders for more than 4 years. jury has already convicted ramos for the murder of 48-year-old anthony and his sons michael and matthew. but they still wanted reyes. >> any time there's a brutal murder like that, the investigators are not going to give up. they are going to work every lead they can get. >>reporter: reyes sentenced last month to 3 consecutive life term for the murder. he said from the start he was not
