traffic light in contra costa county, no problems southbound still fog across the golden gate bridge and there was a fog advisory issued for highway 1 and 35 pacifica daly city that has been cancelled. breaking news in oakland. a body has been found at a motel police are working to determine whether the victim was murdered. amy hollyfield is live at the starlight motel with more. >> reporter: police have called homicide investigators to the scene. you can see where they are focusing on this corner unit. they are securing the scene and waiting for the investigators to get here. these officers say there was a lot of blood in the room, evident right away they were likely dealing with a homicide. they were called here around 3:00 this morning macarthur and 100th avenue in oakland. police don't know the woman's age. it does appear she is an oakland resident. they don't have witnesses.

they say someone was with her when they arrived. >> there was one individual trying to render aid to her. >> reporter: he says the person with her knew her but didn't elaborate on their relationship. no arrests have been made. they think this will be a tough case because they don't have witnesses. homicide investigators are on their way to start working on this case. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. the justice department is targeting an oakland pot club described as the largest in the world. federal prosecutors served papers on the harborside health center calling it a marijuana super store. the justice department is moving to seize the club's property on the embarcadero where it has been operating since 2006. prosecutors also targeting a sister location in san jose. medical marijuana is legal in

california but illegal under federal law. 40 people are spending the night in emergency shelters after a wildfire forced them out of their homes of the sierra foothills. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon 50 miles northeast of sack machine tomorrow the fire has burned 200 -- sacramento. the fire has burned 200 acres. >> the temperatures we've had in the 100s that humidity is down and burning conditions are prime to be extreme, to say the least. >> calfire plans to attack the fire after sunrise. 250 firefighters are battling this fire. investigators have not pinpointed what started it. one person reported seeing men shooting off fireworks. san jose firefighters looking into the cause of overnight grass fire next to a mobile home park and construction site last night off monterey highway the small

a judge found there was enough evidence yesterday to try genaro garcia fernandez on charges of sexual abuse. his son antolin garcia-torres is charged with murdering sierra lamar. fernandez is charged with raping a family member when the victim was between the ages of 5 and 14. detectives sagar see ya fernandez confessed and wrote an apology letter. >> we have his own words and we have his own words coming out of his mouth and they are coming out through his hands-on to a piece of paper. >> all together garcia fernandez faces 25 counts of child molestation. today third straight spare the air day after searing heat made life uncomfortable for a lot of folks in walnut creek 100° yesterday people tried to cool off at the swim center in livermore 104, 102 in

subpoena four people who say they can prove mayor lee lied under oath last month. the targets of the subpoena -- building commissioner former supervisor and businessman and city hall insider. mirkarimi's lawyer says the mayor contradicted himself when he testified that he had not discussed the case with those individuals. >> if those city officials are correct and the mayor did not tell the truth, then in effect, the mayor may have committed abz told the)wm&y)uth and he's blasd what he calls outrageous allegations of perjury. the commission will vote on whether to issue subpoenas on july 18th. next, retirees in stockton file lawsuit. what they want the city officials to not be able to do. dozens of evacuated residents in colorado return to their homes and the

4:47. in an hour and a half we expect to learn more in the penn state sex abuse scandal. results of an investigation headed by former fbi chief are expected to be released in philadelphia. >> our mandate is clear, we've been tasked to investigate the matter fully, fairly and completely. >> reporter: penn state university tress tees hired former fbi chief louie freeh to find out who knew what and when in the scandal that includes penn state's former president spanier, schultz, curly and paterno. >> joe paterno is no longer the coach. >> reporter: the late head coach admitted to learning about an incident in 2001 involving sandusky and a buy in a shower. instead of calling -- and a boy in a shower.

instead of calling police he told campus officials. reportedly there's an e-mail trail. >> whether you are a football coach or university president, or the guy sweeping the building you have a moral responsibility. >> reporter: last month a jury found sandusky guilty of 45 counts ofnflq abusing children. while he will spend the rest of his life behind bars paterno hoped the university would not suffer the consequences in an op-ed released by his family, he wrote, this is not a football scandal and should not be treated as one and does notlu tarnish the academic reputation of penn state. his family members have spoken out against the investigation. they believe they should have been invited to discuss the findings with investigators before this report is released. abc news, philadelphia. 4:49 in colorado burglars hit 37 homes that had been evacuated during the most

destructive fire in that state's history. authorities are offering up to $50,000 for information leading to arrests. police say along with the burglarized hopes suspects broke into 28 vehicles after residents fled the fire. the blazer resulted june 23rd and spread over 29 miles is contained and residents are going back home. smoke may still be visible as some areas continue to smolder. a group of stockton retirees has filed a lawsuit in u.s. bankruptcy court to stop city officials from cutting their health benefits. stockton filed for chapter 9 after failing to reach a deal with creditors. the city informed retirees they must pay their health care premiums by the end of this month or medical coverage will be cancelled. promises of full health care to retired union workers are partly to blame for stockton's financial collapse. now many must pay more than

$1100 a month for their health coverage. proposal to allow low income young people in san francisco to ride free on muni may get rerouted. a committee of the metropolitan commission decided yesterday not to endorse the plan. it sent various proposals to the full board one option to extend the program to other cities. supporters worry that would further delay the san francisco plan which already has the financial backing of muni. >> to come up with a third blanket proposal for the region means you are killing the momentum of san francisco and the ac transit and the vta. supporters want the mtc to authorize five million dollars for the san francisco plan and establish pilot programs in alameda and santa clara counties. the mtc will consider the proposals later this month. here's something that is free and fun. the abc7 news alarm clock app. >> coffee, coffee, coffee!
