nothing major we are keeping track of a new crash reported, initially reported westbound 80 at powell headlights moving along nicely. the crash is eastbound 80 and it looks like it could be blocking the left lane and we'll check out to see if it is causing delays. eastbound not too bad at this point. bay bridge toll, minor back up for some of the cash paying lanes overturn crash we are following in castro valley blocking northbound lanes of five canyons parkway towards 580, 580 itself fine in both directions. breaking news right now the concord fire department is battling a structure fire on st. francis drive not clear what is burning there. nick smith is headed to the scene in concord and will bring us a live report at 6:30. this morning in san jose, city officials will announce help is on the way for the city's understaffed fire department.

katie marzullo is live in san jose with more on the story. >> reporter: it is a very large grant we are at the fire department's training center, you can see that large in the background where some of the structure fire training takes place. coming up there will be new firefighters to train that is thanks to a large federal grant and not a moment too soon. take a look at this video, a fire that happened in may that destroyed one home and damaged another in the berryessa neighborhood. the san jose fire department says firefighting effort there is were hampered because a second crew was not available, due to cost cuttg brownouts. this morning the city along side the fire department is going to announce an 8.6 million dollar safer grant and the department going to use that money to hire 27 new fire recruits. back in april, 19 recruits just graduated, they were also, they are also being paid with a federal grand.

wasn't to mention the federal grants from people marks the safer grants safer stands for staffing for adequate fire and emergency response. the money being well spent here in san jose on 27 new firefighters we expect that official announcement at 11 this morning. katie marzullo, abc7 news. :04. in a couple of hours officials will unveil expansion plans for an east bay jail. brings might have gone to tate prison are being to the west contra costa county detention facility in -- in richmond. last october the plan shifted the responsibility of housing lower level offenders to the county jails. the sheriff's department says the expansion is necessary because they are getting two to three times more offenders than initially projected. the expansion is expected to cost two million dollars. two more hearings are scheduled next week as suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi fights to get his job back.

mayor lee is asking the ethics commission to reject subpoena requests by mere peer's lawyers who are accuse lee of lying under oath. during his testimony the mayor said he never consulted with supervisors before suspending the sheriff. walker says a supervisor told her she talked with lee, the supervisor denies that. the mayor is outraged by the perjury talk. >> fact is, he did hurt his spouse. he did admit to false imprisonment. and the dissituation of others and the demeaning of the witnesses. these are activities that amount to official miscduct. i don't think he deserves to be sheriff. >> the two are on mirkarimi's subpoena wish list as are former supervisor peskin and businessman wong. peskin says wong told of a backdoor deal with the mayor to offer the sheriff another job if he quit. prop 29 supporters refusing to give up after last

the slide cut through a hillside and scattered trees, at least three homes were in the path. it is not known if the four people missing were in the homes when the slide hit. helicopter search dog teams and recovery divers are in the area to help look for the missing people. penn state of trustees is expected to hold its regular meeting today. the meeting comes one day after the release of a report which blasted the school for its handling of the jerry sandusky sex abuse scandal. as we told you yesterday morning, the report found top university officials hid sexual abuse allegations against sandusky to avoid bad publicity. the report could have consequenceses on penn state including possibly two sanctions. new this morning jpmorgan chase says its surprise trading loss has green to 4.4 billion dollars the bank made at innocencement this morning. three months ago the bank -- bank revealed it lost two

>> announcer: right now abc7 news begins with breaking news. that breaking news is in concord where the fire department is battling a house fire on st. francis drive. >> nick smith has rushed to the scene. nick what is going on? >> reporter: eric, there are no visible flames they have the situation under control i just spoke with chief stewart of the contra costa county fire department. he still has give me a few more details. they are wrapping up what they say was an electrical fire they believe, started in the -- in one room they were able to keep it contained pg&e was here. what he has told me is that someone was taken into custody, associated with this fire here at 1116 st. francis dave. i'm not sure what the relation is yet. he told me he would give me more information. the concord police are here, there were four units arrived on the scene, they never had

morning the city has received a federal grant to hire new firefighters. the 8 1/2 million dollar grant will put 27 new firefighters in the department similar to the federal funding that helped graduate 19 new recruits in april. the new firefighters will help replace the dozens of fires laid off in the last couple of years because of budget cuts. also in san jose some residents are frustrated by the rise of homeless incamments, seven fires in the the park in the last two weeks. in may the environmental services director sent a memo saying all cleanup activities hauled in order to be sure they are complying. i have -- i have never seen a police caricom down the fire road. -- police car come down the fire road, day or night.
