more and more compressed throughout the overnight hours and that will lead to a quicker burn off. we are looking at clear skies in san jose but the fog does extent into the east bay and it will continue to burn back a little bit earlier today and that will bring somewhat of warming in our inland valleys. so we are talking about more sunshine in the city. in fact, how about partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies later on, but it still will be cool downtown. 50s to start out. near 60 inland under a partly cloudy sky. more sunshine today with numbers coming up a few degrees. we will see if this warming trend is going to last a little bit later. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. this morning an estimated 25,000 people will gather in golden gate park for the anew a.i.d.s. walk san francisco. since 1987 the event has raised more than $77 million. every day in san francisco roughly two more people are infected and rates of new cases are rising among gay and

bi-sexual men. the money raised by today's walk goes to support the san francisco a.i.d.s. foundation and 45 other service organizations, hoping to reduce new infections by 50% over the next three years. opening ceremonies start at 9:30 this morning. abc7 news anchor dan ashley is among the speakers. the walk begins at ten. abc7 news reporter nick smith will bring us live reports from golden gate park beginning at 6:00. later today we pay learn the name of the man wanted by ben asia police for shooting at an officer at a traffic stop. around 11:30 police called off their lengthy search but they think they know who they are looking for. it happened around 6:30 last night in benicia. the officer realized she stopped a stolen car out of napa just as the suspect opened fire. now here's what her patrol car looked like afterwards.

see all the bullet holes in the windshield. she was not hit but returned fire and the suspect sped off, later abandoning the car. that triggered a massive police search of the area around columbus parkway. the man is still at large this morning, considered armed and dangerous. we are assuming he's armed obviously because he shot at the officer. however, since he's fled, and has not been located, we don't know if he still has the gun in his possession or if he got rid of it. >> a woman and child left behind in the stolen car were taken into protective custody by police. union city police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a san francisco homicide. last night officers stopped a car near union city boulevard and smith street. four people were inside. three were arrested. the murder suspect ran. a police dog found him hiding in some brush. he had dog bites and was taken to a hospital. so far police have not said which san francisco murder is

connected to that suspect. a defense attorney has released new surveillance video he says casts a different light on his client who is accused of running down and seriously injuring a firefighter in san francisco. you might remember last thanksgiving 29-year-old cal firefighter albert bertol was hit by a car at a gas station. the lawyer for the accused claims the video shows his client, the 24-year-old man, was punched by bartol. >> the young man, mr. bartol, rushes around the manager and sort of almost leaping just out of nowhere, strikes mr. shabaro in the face and then tackles him like he's a pit bull. >> he said the tape shows bar. it ol was the aggressor. he has been in a coma since being hit, shortly after the

video of him leaving the parking lot with a friend. the chp is investigating the death of a man in santa rosa as a road rage chase. he was being chased along hall road just before 5:00 yesterday evening when the the car hit. woman driving the accura was detained for questioning by chp officers. police say drugs and alcohol are probably involved. in fremont a three-year-old girl is recovering from a second story fall. it happened yesterday morning. the little girl was standing on a bed and accidentally leaned on the screen. the screen popped out. the girl fell through the window, landing on the concrete below. we've been told that fortunately she suffered bumps and bruises. as of the 1st of? month it's illegal to sell or produce

foie gras in california but a restaurant in san francisco is defying that ban. a special report back in 2003 by abc7 led to legislation banning the practice of force-feeding geese to produce the delicacy. abc7 news reporter thomas ramon explains why the owners of this particular restaurant say the new law does not apply to them. >> the pro sidio is celebrating and is fully packed. it is booked and selling what is forbid tone every other restaurant, foie gras, goose liver. band since july 1st but available here because the owner says being on federal law it allows him to ignore the state law. >> it does kind of feel a little controversial. it's fun to be able to have someplace to go and to get it in the city. >> the club's owner would not go on camera but a spokesperson directed us to a recent quote by

the owner. i don't go through the california alcoholic beverage alcohol or even have a liquor license. we even have our own federal health inspector and are not require to go through local or state health departments. about 25 animal rights activists protested at the restaurant. they say the ban is statewide no matter where a restaurant sits. >> the california foie gras ban is prohibiter to which means it can be enforced on a federal land place. >> that remains to be seen. legal opinions differ. but they say the issue is now being reviewed. >> we are waiting for a decision from the u.s. attorney's office as to how they are going to proceed with the presidio social club. >> meanwhile it was being consumed as a slider at $20 a piece. police tried to keep man away from the doors during the demonstration but one man tried to test the patience.

he was eventually arrested for creating a new sense and preventing entrance to the restaurant. animal rights group say they will continue to try to stop them. in the presidio, abc7 news. federal maritime officials have approved a miew plan to keep whales in and around the bay from crashing into ships. concern is with the west shipping lane. it ends near the feeding area for the whales. the plan is to extend it three miles further into the ocean away from those feeding grounds. since 2010 at least half a dozen whales have been killed by huge cargo ships as they come into port. new plan also includes better ways to track whale locations, including a whale spotting and reporting program. >> hopefully with that type of a strategy we can actually base some of the management practices on where we know the whales are at that time as opposed to

traditionally based on seasonal averages of where the whales might be. >> it's a win-win recommendation. the shipping company, they don't want to hit whales. the environmental groups want to save the whales, and the sanctuary, our job is to protect the whales. with this new proposal to ten the shipping lanes, we all win. >> the new regulations are pending final review by the international maritime organization. a suspended sheriff, ross mirkarimi, and his wife says lopez plans to return to venezuela immediately at she testifies at her husband's misconduct hearing on wednesday. today the san francisco chronicle reports lopez wants to return to venezuela where she's been visiting to be near her cancer-stricken father who just underwent major surgery.

sheriff mirkarimi's supporters have raised funds for him. and meantime. mirkarimi wants to is four people that he says he may show the mayor lied under oath when he testified at the hearing. people plan to rally this afternoon to stop cuts to public education and school closers. many of the same parents occupied lakeview elementary school for 19 days last month until they were forced to leave by police. today's rally is planned for 5:00 at a park across from lakeview elementary school. the supporters say they are bogey to celebrate their success thus far and call more attention to the oakland school direct's closer policies. there will be speakers and musical entertainment at the rally. up next, president obama

lisa argen is here with all the details. >> yeah, and there are a lot of little details to sort out today. in fact, one of them will allow for our temperatures to come up and sun to brake up soon around the bay area. here's a look from the roof camera. you will notice it looks clear. we do have fog. it is compressed and the compressed marine layer will allow for a quicker burn off. on shore flow is still with us but it's not as strong as yesterday. even though we've got the fog nudging into our delta area, it's not going to make it much further. some of the cloudiness is around marin and sonoma. we are looking at the economist drizzle along the shoreline. so starting out with cloud cover except around concord and san jose this morning. also the delta, clear conditions. 59 in san carlos. 53 in the city. so temperatures this morning once again on the cool side but we will be looking at not only

some sunshine, but mostly sunny case in san francisco today, although the temperatures still a little cool there but a little warm are in our inland valleys. but, wow, tomorrow as much as ten to pitch -- fifteen degrees cooler. we have a trough, there's one today that will work to bring out clearing sooner and provide a wind shift. it's an off-shore push. but this one here is going to take its place come tomorrow, and that brings our big, big cool down. so starting out pretty much like we saw yesterday, although the marine layer continues to sink and become confined to the coast. so immediate 50s right at the shoreline. others 60 in the city with temperatures approaching near 80 in parts of santa clara really. look at the 80s, yesterday they were way out into the sacramento valley, and today it should be a little warmer. we have the surface winds, the on-shore flow not as strong as

yesterday but then tomorrow we are talking about not only some gusty winds, but slower clearing and the marine layer once again back up to over 2,000 feet. today some of the cooling not quite making it into the valley. a little warmer there. upper 80s in sacramento, how about 95 today. 78 in los angeles and back home we will be looking at cloudy skies but then throughout the later morning hours clearing. so the a.i.d.s. walk finishing up in sharon meadow looking for some sunshine. cool, though, low 60s, but at least it will be a little brighter out there. in terms of the rest of the temperatures around the bay, topping out into the lower 70s for oakland today. not bad. 27 in san mateo. look at the mid-and upper 80s returning out toward brentwood. 82 in san jose. that's a warmup for you with 65 in the city. 72 in santa cruz today with more sunshine around the monterey bay. and if you are headed into the city, we will look for the skies to continue to clear.

honored in san francisco yesterday. a community center was named after betty ong, a flight attendant on board one of the planes that crashed into the world trade center. lisa has the details. >> i would like to proclaim today, in recognition of this event, the center and the naming of it, betty ann ong clean niece rec center day in san francisco. [applause] >> the 24,000 square foot center is a symbol of hope, strength and inspiration. it's named after betty ann ong, a san francisco native who died, on board the flight when it crashed into the tower of the world trade center. >> she was the first voice to aler the world of the attack. >> ong, who was a float attendant, hid in the back of the plane, picked up a crew phone and call the reservations

>> it will open officially to the public on tuesday. in san francisco, abc7 news. opponents of california's $68 billion high-speed rail project plan to be in sacramento tomorrow to call for its end. last week the legslator voted on the position. but it faces a number of hushed else, including lawsuits and political pressure to not spend the money the voter approved before the economy soured. a lawsuit brought brought by menlo park will be discussed in sacramento yesterday at a settlement conference. peninsula cities claim the environmental review relies on erroneous ridership projections. demonstrators will try to disrupt muni service in the bayview district tomorrow but muni said it will make the necessary adjustments to avoid disruptions for riders. the planned protest is to mark

the one year anniversary of the fatal shooting of kenneth harding at a third street light rail station last july 16th. the 19-year-old man was chased by police when he ran from a muni fair evasion checkpoint. it was initially believed he died from police gunfire, but a medical examiner's report found the fatal bullet came from the gun he was carrying. members of the bay view community dispute that. protesters say his death is the result of muni policies and that's why they are vowing to disrupt service tomorrow. there's a trend sweeping big cities to create small living spaces. san francisco's supervisors are debating whether to amend the building code to allow developers to shrink apartments they cancel or rent. >> this table can also be converted to a bench. >> and the bench into a bed. when you have just 160 square feet, every inch has to do double or triple duty. patrick kennedy is a developer

who built this berkeley bungalow. now he wants to bring his concept to san francisco. >> 42% of the population in san francisco lives alone today. nothing it being built to address the needs of that demographic. >> with the rental market sizzling, microapartments would be cheaper. instead of college grads cram four or five in a single-family home, each might be able to afford a tiny spot. retailers like ikea already offer space-saving products for those who are living small. supervisor scott wiener has introduced legislation that would allow developers to build units with just 150 square feet of living space. but it would also require a separate kitchen, bathroom and closet for a total of 220 square feet. >> when you have a city that is popular, that is densely populated, we need to make sure that we are being creative and flexible in meeting our housing

high, thanks in part to a group called foster dream. they focus on foster youth, 12 to 24 years old, trying to give them the same support that families usually provide. >> things that will probably spark that idea of i can do better, things can be better, life will be better. >> foster dream helps foster kids pay for extracurricular activities, proms. and one man needed a government on his college dorm room but his student loan hadn't arrived yell. >> he called us and he we made the payment so he wouldn't lose the form. >> many don't have consistent adult support so foster a dream tries to match them with trained mentors. >> sometimes they need to get certain situations and issues off their chest to someone who can listen, maybe give good advice. >> foster a dream also runs a two week summer program called get set to help teenage foster kids prepare for adult life. >> for maybe five years down the

road. what do those goals look like? >> the program is put on by two staff members and an army of volunteers. teens work on resumes, practice for job interviews, visit different workplaces workplacesn about careers. >> they get interview outfits. we go shopping. they get clothes. >> and there's also fun. swimming, restaurants, even a trip to a zip line. and through every activity the focus is on all the good that these young people have to offer. >> i think one of my things is i never really give up. >> the fact that people confide in me and can talk to me and trust me. >> the get set program is paid for by von maur medical center. the volunteers seem to benefit as much as the teenagers. >> the other day i couldn't even get through the questions because i stopped in the middle of it and said you are my heros. you people are my heros. you have taught me so much about life. >> foster a dream also distribution clothes and other donations all year long and

>> yeah. >> hopefully you will like the weather a little better today. it's been awfully cool out there, especially if you have been around the bay or in the city. inland not too hard to take. here's the look from the high definition emeryville camera. we have the fog as usual this morning but it's not as extensive. it's about 500, 600 feet lower and that will allow for the clearing a little bit sooner. still our on-shore flow, live doppler 7 hd shows some of the low cloudiness from the coastline, marin, sonoma, napa and it extends farther south along the peninsula but not as far as yesterday. san jose is clear. and also with concord clear skies. livermore cloudy, 57. it's 52 in fremont. good morning half moon bay. 6-mile visibility along the short line. so it is a little bit better in spots. so we have some drizzle this morning. you may need the wipers as you

head on over the golden gate bridge, a little bit in oakland. otherwise temperatures coming up around 5 degrees today, especially away from the bay. but we will get into that sunshine in the city today. so that's a switch. the numbers just on the other side of 60. so lower 60s. but another trough is waiting in the wings and this one will bring much, much cooler air, as much as 15 to 20 degrees cooler tomorrow. so there is a weak system off the coast. that's going to aid in our clearing but then here to the north and west of us, this bears down tomorrow and taking the place of a slight easterly flow in the upper elevations, there will be a strong offshore flow. today we are looking at the mist and drizzle and then pulling back. by about noon time we are sunny in the east bay so that gives us a chance to warm up a little sooner. we will see more of the mid-80s from concord and livermore today and touching around san jose. milpitas in the upper 70s with low 60s in the city and about

70 degrees in the east bay valley. today look for more sunshine by the 11:00, even 10:00 hour, a little warmer. then, boy, watch out tomorrow and tuesday. temperatures hard-pressed to reach 80 degrees in the next couple of days and then the numbers much more uniform, less of a spread from our coast to our inland valleys. ed toed 2 in yosemite with upper 70s in the sierra. looking pretty good across the state with temperatures down in southern california upper 60s. we saw some rain in the desert around needles, almost three quarters of an inch of rain, setting a record yesterday. but much of the moisture continues to push offshore. you will see the fog at the coast. so today looking at numbers in and around the 60-degree mark, starting out with length of cloud cover. but by the noon hour we will begin to break out and more sunshine. a nice afternoon for the a.i.d.s. walk, starting off cool in the 60s but then warmer. 71 in oakland today.

you are warming up. in the south bay feeling a bit more like summer, 82 there. 85 in livermore with 72 san mateo. mid-80s all the way up towards cloverdale. further south we wait on the clearing here but at least you are in the mid-80s for gilroy. 66 monterey and if you are head downtown today bring the jacket and sunglasses. tell be getting sunnier and sunnier, but cool. and our look ahead today. a warmish day in some spots but much, much cooler monday, tuesday. and then we again to warm up by the end of the work week. maybe some extra clouds. so, you know, it's got it all," like usual. >> and it seems like the heat wave broke on the east coast. >> hasn't been too bad there. definitely. >> thank you, lisa. a south bay couple bought a new sofa. they later found it to be unbearably uncomfortable. the retailer quickly promised to take care of the problem but that solution was a long-time congress. that's when 7 on your side's michael finney stepped in to help.

furniture. >> it has fobber that goes into it and some are firmer and some softer so it takes time to get the right kind of material that was originally purchased. >> but after four months ted's patience had one out. >> i sent an e-mail to the oner and said if this was not resolved by the end of the week, that i was going to take and seek other alternatives. >> ted contacted on your side and we contacted aco and it jumped into action. >> he brought a very expensive sectional and it's not comfortable. we need to resolve this issue right away. >> they phoned us and my wife talked to them and it was on a friday. they said they would be out to pick it up. and that they would return it on tuesday. >> aco decided it would just replace the couch with a brand new one it had in stock. >> gave him the new fibers, new foam. we did a little bit extra for him because he waited so long. >> if we have any problems with the future, we definitely know
