>>. >> carolyn: good morning. thanks for joining us, i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with look at the weather. here is our meteorologist lisa argen. >> lisa: good morning, here is the view from mount tam where we have the marine layer, coolest temperatures here in san rafael. 52 degrees right now. fog will continue to burn back quickly to the coast today, but will include some sunshine in the city. it's going to be just a couple degrees warmer and the clouds are going to hang out around the shoreline. cloudy at our beaches. already looking sunny in our east bay and south bay. looking good right now but the numbers will be cool until the

noon hour and then by the later afternoon you notice you warm to the mid and upper 80s. a little bit of warming today depending on where you are, but get the sweaters back out. i'll have more details coming up in a few minutes. >> carolyn: thousands of people from all over the bay area are in golden gate park this morning where a ceremony is about to get underway to kick off the 26th annual aids walk san francisco. it's a fund-raiser to help in the fight against aids. nick joins us live from the park with more details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. you are hear them behind me. they are already fired up. the crowd has grown, this is 26th year of the aids walk san francisco. annual event locally has raised more than $3 million for the fight against transmission of it. about 20% infected they don't have hiv and it's 70% worldwide.

in san francisco, daily, two more people infected and rates of new cases are rising among gay and by sexual men. but they say they are optimistic about the gains being made about zbliarns our colleagues in africa have lost people and lost babies and we have -- >> and it's that reduction of certain areas is in direct relation to drug therapy. treatment makes it let them live long and happy lives and there are pathways to prevention. aids walk in various cities have raised more than $77 million to fight the hiv virus in large part due to the participation of volunteers. look at the crowd out here today.

mothers, fathers, yuck, old, men and women, it doesn't matter. they are here to raise money. the money raised by today's walk goes to support the san francisco aids foundation and 45 other organizations that help with the prevention of hiv-aids. carolyn, i'll tell you they are waiting for dan ashley that will kick things off in 45 minutes. weather should be great and take last minute donations. if you want to come on down they will welcome you. i would love to meet you. we're going to watch things kick on off. people are in a good mood. a great day for aid walk to raise a lot of money. >> carolyn: thank you, nick. breaking news in vallejo this morning where police have arrested a suspect they say shot at a benicia police officer during a traffic stop last night. that shooting happened around 6:30 and led to a massive

manhunt. about 90 minutes ago, 22-year-old man was captured at a vallejo location police had had staked out because he was known to go there. police are questioning about. he shot at one of their officers which pulled him over last night shattering the windshield. she wasn't hit. she returned fire. the suspect drove off, later abandoning the car which turned out to be stolen from napa. police launched an inintensive search around the parkway. the woman and child left behind in the stolen car were taken into protective custody. officers caught up with him and his arrest just before 7:30 this morning. >> union city police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a murder in san francisco. last night officers stopped a car near union city boulevard and smith street. four people were inside. three were arrested the murder

suspect ran. a police dog found him hiding in some brush but the suspect had some dog bites. he was taken to a hospital. police have not said which san francisco homicide they believe he is linked to. >> a defense attorney has released new surveillance video that casts a new late on his client. he is accused of running down and seriously injuring a firefighter in san francisco. last thanksgiving 29-year-old firefighter albert bartal was hit by a car at a gas station. the lawyer says it shows his client was punched by bartal. >> the young man, mr. bartel rushes around the manager and almost leaping just out of nowhere strikes mr. shapara in the face and tackles him.

>> carolyn: according to torres the tape showing bardal was the aggressor. he has been in a coma assistant -- since he was hit after the video taken. the chp is investigating the death 56 motorist in santa rosa at a road rage case. a black it was kes chasing a motorist when the actor hit a convertible head on. that car flipped flipd over bursting in the flames with a victim underneath. a womb who s driving the ago can you remember last was detained for questioning. >> katie:. >> carolyn: as of the first of this month, it's illegal to sell foie gras in san francisco. one restaurant defying the ban. a special report led to legislation banning the practice of force feeding geesz to produce that delicacy.

tomas ramon explains why the owners of this particular restaurant say the new law does not apply to them. >> the city is celebrating bastille day and is packed. they also announced it will sell what is forbidden to any california restaurants, foie gras. it's available here because the owner says being on federal land allows him to ignore the state law. >> it feels a little controversial. >> club's owner would not go on camera. but they say i don't go through at alcoholic beverage control or even have a liquor license. we have our own federal health inspector and not required to go through local or state health departments. >> about 25 animal rights

activists protested. they say the ban is statewide no matter where a restaurant sits. >> the foie gras ban meanings it can be enforced on federal lands place. >> it remaining to be seen. one says the issue is now being reviewed. >> so we're waiting for a decision from u.s. attorney's office how they are going to pre proceed. >> meanwhile, the foie gras was being consumed at $20. they tried to keet keep the protestors away from the doors but one man decided to test the orders. >> you have no right to talk to me. >> he was eventually arrested for blocking the entrance to the restaurant. >> they say they will sell foie gras until told otherwise and animal rights will continue to try to stop them.

>> carolyn: some developments now in the case of suspended share ross mirkarimi. an attorney for his wife says she will come back to san francisco to testify at his hearing. lopez has been living in venezuela for some time now and plans to return there after her testimony on wednesday. today san francisco chronicle reports lopez wants to go back to venezuela to be near her father who underwent major cancer surgery. mirkarimi supporters have raised $1700 to pay for her round trip airfare after the mayor declined to use city funds. meanwhile, the ethics commission will decide on thursday whether to allow mirkarimi's attorneys to pursue perjury allegations against the mayor. the mayor strongly denies.

>> a bedouin pulled them off a tour bus around mt. sinai. quoted as saying the americans are very nervous and so are the families. >> the concern we have at the moment is that he is diabetic. longer they hold him, i would assume not going to work in his favor. >> reporter: what is remarkable the kidnapper in an interview he took the americans to secure the release of his uncle, an uncle taken into custody for refusing to pay $100 in a bribe to police officers at a checkpoint. >> this standoff was underway as secretary of state hillary clinton was visiting egypt meeting with the president who was elected after the arab spring. it is a revolution that has brought the egyptian military having no control in large areas of the country allowing these kidnappings and the anguish for the families worried about their

loved ones. >> we're all in good spirits. we know that the god we serve is in control of the matter. >> carolyn: the war of words in the presidential race is heating up with mitt romney demanding an apology from president obama's campaign. the obama campaign questioned whether romney was at the helm of bain a boston firm when it sent jobs overseas. romney's advisor says it's an outright lie but they point to his signature with a filing regulators declaring he was bain company's chief executive at the time. how important is this issue to american voters? >> mitt romney at the bain capital why she should be president. he doesn't talk about being governor. he said i created jobs in bain capital. everything in that ad is documented by newspaper clips.

>> no sad going to decide this election. economy and jobs are going to decide this election. his record is abysmal. we've had over 40 straight months of 8% unemployment. his policies have been a failure when it comes to turning our economy around. >> carolyn: some republican leaders are still urging romney to release more tax returns to clear up questions about what role he played and when. at least one home has been destroyed by the flames what is being called the robbers fires. the fire is near colfax and has grown to 2200 acres. strong winds are fanning the flames making it difficult for the 2,000 firefighters on the scene. it has forced about 400 people to leave their homes. right now it's only 20% contained. right now, this is the time we worry about the dry conditions.

[ laughter ] >> carolyn: it's over with. >> lisa: we have a seven-day window, there might be something in there for you. santa cruz, cloudy yesterday, it was in the upper 60s and we're shooting for a high of 72 degrees so a little more sunshine. we've got that working across the bay right now, but here downtown, roof camera, a little bit in the way of breeze, not much but with the low clouds, the fog we're talking about 48-minute delays at sfo. more compressed marine layer. that makes for less of that marine intrusion over the hills. so already it's sunny east of the caldecott tunnel and lots of

fog and low clouds from napa, sonoma and marin and peninsula. sunny in hayward. that is switch this morning looking at 60 in mountain view. so temperatures are slowly warming up responding to the sun. 64 in fairfield. we do have a west wind. that south wind will keep us cool, as well. lots of clouds around the central coast. 57 in monterey. it was 55 in n gilroy. there was mist and drizzle this morning. still a little bit along the shoreline but temperatures are going to coming up four or five degrees but there is another trough to the west of us that will aim towards the bay area and move on in tomorrow bringing temperatures 10-15 degrees cooler. more dramatic in the inland valleys but back in the 50s for san francisco. there it is. don't get too used to our summer-like weather this afternoon. it's been very chilly but today a little bit better because this

will be in the mid and upper 80s. sharing the sunshine from the east bay towards san francisco and that breeze not quite as robust today but that all changes tomorrow. a little feature around the coast today will work in our favor to bring us more sun with the lighter wind flow tomorrow. we're talking about a couple of days of temperatures much cooler than average. in fact by wednesday marine layer is so deep it will mix out together. then we'll start to see upper 80s and 90s here. the cool marine air is just about touching the delta this morning and pulling back throughout the afternoon. we got the clouds and peeks of sun on the way and turning partly sunny today with numbers climbing to low to mid-60s for the aids walk. we'll look for the temperatures

to respond nicely in the east bay. 82 in concord and santa clara valley, couple degrees of warming. in the city, it's going to be cool but at least it will be brighter toward the afternoon with temperatures in the low 60s at at&t park. today, call it a warmup. depending on where you are, it was quite gusty, below normal. wednesday things turn around and not only the warmer weather and moisture in terms of tropical moisture headed toward the end of the week. >> carolyn: does it mean rain? >> lisa: we'll see. >> carolyn: thank you, lisa. you talked about weather at the ballpark. in sports this afternoon, matt cain is starting for the giants. he pitched a perfect game last month. the giants moved into first place after a dramatic walk-off victory. here is rick with all the

highlights in this morning's sports. >> good morning. after two outings all eyes were on tim lincecum against houston. astros have the worst record in the majors. he struck out a season high of 11. sanchez doubles over his head and in comes pagan. here he gives up an r.b.i. double and scott moore makes it 2-1. chris snyder should be the final out but the ball gets away from sanchez and throat is wide. and huntly maxwell coming home. and sanchez gets the fourth hit of the game. sandoval rounds third and throw is high. san francisco win 3-2. they go for the sweep later today. >> before the a's took on the twins, jonny gomes was there.

three one blast made it 4-0 in the first. in the third, he grills it to center. this made it 6-0. everything seemed to be going the a's way. brandon moss by throwing a bullet to second. the man is out. and smith with a monster shot into the second deck. brandon moss also went deep. 9-3 and a's have won eight of their last nine. >> toughest opponents, it's jet lag following their win at wimbledon, last night, romanian made 431 unforced errors. this was match pointed.

>>. >> carolyn: welcome back. just about every other day someone in san francisco is infected with hiv. money to support intervention efforts is key. right now the 26th annual aids walk san francisco is about to kickoff with an opening ceremony in golden gate park. nick smith is joining us live from there with the details. >> good morning. >> good morning carolyn. take a look over my shoulder. do you see all these people out here? we estimate the crowd to be 2,000 and 3,000 people. the announcement just started because kicking off aids walk in about 15 minutes. hundreds of volunteers have turned out for the 26th year of the aids walk locally. this annual event has raised more than $3 million for the

fight against transmission of hiv. now health care workers says in the united states, about 20% of those infected don't even know know they have it. that the number is about 70% worldwide. in san francisco, roughly two more people are infected with the virus and new cases arise. along the route of the walk will be memorial quilt, those that have died from aids and understand the devastating impact of the disease. >> you still need to educate people of all ages and all genders and backgrounds that aids is still happening. people are still dying in spite of the success of medication. some people can take it but a lot of people can't. >> because the medication is not a cure and because drug therapy doesn't work for everyone, prevention is key. since 1987, aids walks have

raised more than $77 million to fight the hiv virus in large part due to the participation of volunteers. right here you can see that the crowd is huge. the money will go to support the san francisco aids foundation and 45 other service organizations hoping to reduce new infections by 50% over the next three years. in about ten minutes, dan ashley abc news anchor will take to the stage to kick things up. right now we have somebody warming up the crowd. this crowd has been festive all morning, people are excited to be here with their family and friends. we have seen corporate sponsorship but we see a sense of community. people of talking about the changes they have seen happen since they have been volunteering. it's a really good atmosphere to be in. we'll talk to some of the walkers later in. tune in 5:00 and 6:00 and i'll show you some of the scenes.

if you are sitting on the sofa, you can still goat down here because allowing registration at the park. >> carolyn: thank you. other news, the marin transit board considers making major changes in bus service. they want to renegotiate its contract with golden gate transit to provide bus service for the counties. back in january, transit board members gave notice they intend to terminate the contract if new terms can't be agreed upon. they are required to give two years notice. tomorrow the board will decide to continue negotiations with golden gate transit. county staffers are also recommending the board begin looking for another transit service to provide at least part of what is not provided by golden gate. demonstrators will try to disrupt muni service in the bayview district tomorrow. muni says they will make

necessary adjustments to avoid disruptions. it's to mark the one-year anniversary of kenneth harding of a third rail station last july 16th. 19-year-old was chased by police when he ran from a checkpoint. it was initially believed he died from police gunfire but a medical examiner's report say fatal bullet came from a gun he was carrying. protestors say his death is result of muni policies and they are vowing to disrupt service tomorrow. there is trend sweeping big cities to create small living spaces. san francisco supervisors have debated whether to maik change the code to allow developers to shrink apartments to sell or rent. >> it can be converted to a bench. >> and bench into a bed. when you have just 160 square

train dream campaign which buys clothes and school supplies for foster children. dan ashley looks at one of organizations using those donations to make a difference for foster child. >> reporter: all of these people have been through tough times that no child should ever have to experience and all of them ended up in foster care. >> i want to be with my family but i didn't want to be abused any more. >> dan: we can share their hope for a better future. >> go to college. >> go to school and save up my money so i can have more money to put towards my lawyer career. >> dan: they are aiming high thanks to foster a dream in martinez. it focuses on foster youth 12-24 years old. trying to give some of the same supported that families provide. >> things that are going to

spark that idea, i can do better life will be better. >> dan: it helps foster kids pay for extracurricular activities, portraits, proms, even emergency expenses. one young man had to make a deposit to a dorm room but the money hadn't arrived yet. >> only half of foster children even graduate from high school and many don't have consistent adult support. so foster a dream tries to match them with trained mentors. >> sometimes they need to get certain situations to talk to someone that can listen and give good advice. >> foster a dream runs a two week summer program called get set to help kids prepare for adult life. >> maybe five years down the road. >> dan: the program is put on by two staff members and an army of volunteers. teens work on resumes, practice for job interviews and visit

different work places and learn about careers. >> they get interview outfits and clothes. >> there is fun. swimming and trip to zpip line but it's all the good they have to offer. >> i think just that. >>. >> dan: get set program is paid for by john muir medical center. the volunteers seem to benefit as much as the teenagers. >> i had a questionnaire i gave to them the other day. i couldn't get through it. i stopped, i said you people are my heroes. you have overcome things and taught me so much about life. >> dan: they also distribute clothes and other donations all year long. every december they create a winter wonderland for foster children of all ages to help every child feel special. >> when you find such a need, it

marine layer out in the distance. it has been peeling back quickly this morning. so we're looking at a brighter started to the morning in some areas around hayward and castro valley up in marin county. still cloudy here. the clouds will definitely clear back here throughout the afternoon. highlighting that what a change tomorrow is going to be. live doppler 7 hd. low clouds and fog, significantly less extensive this morning. you can see the hole around marin county and a little bit about richmond and down around the peninsula and along the central coast. we will be looking at the numbers responding anywhere from 4-6 degrees warmer today. look at the 60s. it's been sunny all morning long in antioch. 68 in mountain view and 57 in oakland. quick burnoff due to the shallower depth and even 70s

will arrive here today. plenty of clouds in santa cruz and monterey. with a little bit of mist and drizzle it will be slow going for the sunshine. but with the sun we'll see mid and upper 80s feeling like summer in tri-valley. santa cruz should be in the low 70s. 80s will return north. you will notice the westerly wind. it's going to be a bit lighter. so a little warmer tomorrow and tuesday. anywhere from 10-15 degrees cooler. this is a trough and then unseasonably strong trough for this time of year that will continue to slide down the coast. with it we're back to the marine layer from 2500 feet and beyond. it's going to get so deep it will mix out by wednesday. by tuesday, and monday we're talking breezy, cool, gray conditions and very little clearing throughout the afternoon in some spots. only 60s and 70s.

in the valleys, quite warm. 95 in sacramento with low 90s in yosemite. back home, we're looking at temperatures here, still cool just in the 50s but take a look. there is the fog begins to retreat part of san francisco. it will be sunnier and 71 in oakland today. we've got the seventh annual poodle parade today. i've been trying to mention that and i forgot. 73 in watsonville. so all kinds of interesting things. giants are playing. it will be a cool one with increasing sun. upper 50s to low 60s. today maybe not as warm as you would like. compared to tomorrow and tuesday it will feel good and then back to warmer weather by the end of the workweek. >> carolyn: good day for all

those poodles on parade. >> a south bay couple recently bought a new sofa they found to be uncomfortable. retailer quickly promised to take care of the problem but the solution was a long time coming. that is when 7 on your side's michael finney stepped in to help. >> right here. this is where it's sagging. >> ted sanchez shows us pictures of what we felt was wrong with his new sofa. his wife compared to the new coach to a five-year-old one. >> this is a solid back. this is just like when we got it. >> that durability they expected. >> it wasn't sagging, they were all nice and fluffed up. >> they purchased it from furniture store in santa clara. they complained to customer service and they quickly offered to get more fiber material to firm up the pillow.

solution couldn't come soon enough. >> they kept saying, this couch is not comfortable. >> reporter: months passed and the promised fiber did not arrive. the manager of ato furniture. >> they have a special fiber that goes in to it to make it firmer. it does take a little bit of time to get the right kind of material that was originally purchased. >> reporter: after four months, ted's patience had run out. >> i sent an e-mail to the owner if this was not resolved by the independent of the week i was going to take and seek other alternatives. >> he contacted "7 on your side" and we contacted ato and it jumped into action. >> he bought an expensive section al and we need to resolve it. >> my wife talked to him on friday and they would be out to
