our coast this morning. >> i'm frances dinglasan. we'll be keeping track of possible delays on muni. live shot of the bay bridge toll plaza shows no delays right now. >> eric: it is also 5:01. thanks for joining us, i'm eric thomas. >> kristen: i'm kristen sze. let's begin with breaking news. this is a live picture where police are searching for two home invasion burglary suspects in sunnyvale. these are live pictures from the scene. you can see the canine units. police have closed off the area bordered bypass toria avenue and waverly avenue and they are also telling us that the suspects were spotted by an officer as they ran off. police called in outside help

including other units, police search dogs as you can see from santa clara, mountain view and los altos police department. we'll continue to follow the situation and online at abc7news.com. >> eric: other big story this morning, threatening disruption to san francisco muni service due to happen in about an hour due to a planned protest of a fatal shooting. amy hollyfield is live at church and market with more. >> reporter: muni is running right now but if you are planning to take it this morning you wanted to check back in with us before you leave the house because they are hoping to shut down the service this morning. they want to commemorate the death of kenneth harding. this is the anniversary of his death. 19-year-old died last year when he was in this a shootout with police. the coroner ruled that harding died from a bullet from his own gun but some believe that police killed him. they are killing a for a nuu

muni shut down today which could be an inconvenience but we met one man that he is going to take it in stride. >> i'm used to it. it's part of what makes san francisco interesting. you never really know what is going to happen. >> reporter: a spokesperson says the agency is aware of this and will take it into consideration today. it's scheduled to get started at 6:00 this morning at market and 14th and be an all day event. a press conference is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and harding's family is expected to speak out. >> kristen: parents and teachers who occupy a shuttered elementary school last month haven't given up keeping neighborhood schools open. yesterday they rallied at park where police forced them to leave after 16 days of protests. lakeview was another one that

was closed last year. district says they lost 17,000 students over the past decade. the parents are not giving up their fight. >> i think the school district has a false idea. they think the battle is over and but we're here to send a strong message, this is just the beginning. this is the way to improve our public education system. >> kristen: they plan to convert lakeview to administrative offices. >> eric: san carlos school board is expected to approve a $72 million bond measure on the november ballot. if passed by voters it would cost property owners $26 for every $100,000 of assessed value. it would help pay for repairs and classrooms and libraries. >> they will present closing arguments in the wrongful death suited brought against him by

several small grass price for along highway 780 in benicia over the weekend. chp had to shut down one lane near 780 and south hampton road yesterday. the closure backed up traffic yesterday after the fire broke out. nobody was hurt. >> kristen: this orange fire crews from the bay area and around the state are trying to contain three major wildfires burning in northern california. biggest one is placer county. it's threatening two foothills community. it has destroyed one home and threatened 170 more. fire crews have a 30% contained. people that live above the canyons they won't have much time to get out if the fire makes a run towards their home. >> all of a sudden there is no time. when they get you out you can't come back in. comes over the other side of the canyon and wind is supposed to

be bad. >> kristen: there was applause for the firefighters last is night's town briefing in forest hill. everybody is hoping the 2,000 firefighters can keep the flames away from their homes. >> eric: if you can remember back a couple nights when you saw amy hollyfield at san francisco, i could see it was breezy. >> kristen: let's talk to lisa argen in for mike about that. >> i had to use the wipers this morning. the cool conditions are going to last for a couple of days. here is a look at live doppler and mist and drizzle at times but right now a lot of low clouds and fog haven't reached into the south bay this morning. here is a look you can expect later on. notice the fog out to inland valleys. we're looking at breezy winds, delta winds up to 36 miles an hour. cooler air all the way into

sacramento valley. it's pulling back just to the bay. so it's going to stay cloudy and cool and we'll look for the damp conditions to stay at our coast. 3:00 this afternoon. notice we've got more low clouds and mist and drizzle from the peninsula down to half moon bay. temperatures as much as 5-15 degrees below the average. that is 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. 50's to start out with breezy conditions this afternoon. mainly 60s and 70s today. don't look for much of a warmup. we've got an area of low pressure that doesn't want to get out of town too soon. mild weather comes our way with more sunshine beginning to turn the corner on wednesday. >> we were checking muni because there is potential delays due to on a planned protest. bart looking good. caltrain reporting no delays,

but i also did want to give you an update on a crash in the sonoma valley area. this is on leveroni road at fifth street. it's on the shoulder but know it's out there. 101 is looking got cotati through petaluma. live shot of oakland maze, this westbound heading to the bay bridge, these are the connection ramps to 580 and 880 and no major problems now in the east bay. we'll check out san jose for you. headlights northbound, fine into cupertino. this is 17 out of santa cruz mountains. we're picking up heavy traffic right now, westbound at tracy. they reported a couple minutes ago. speed sensors show 18 miles an hour on westbound 205 approaching 11th street. >> eric: thank you very much. >> kristen: they prepare to recall thousands of vehicles.

3.71 a gallon. that is down a whopping 32 cents from last month. in the bay area, gas is averaging 3.84 a gallon. >> ford motor company is recalling more than 8,000 cars to fix carpet padding that could get in the way of brakes, 2013 escape suvs. dealers will remove the carpet pagd at no charge. >> kristen: microsoft is pulling out of a joint venture that co-owned msnbc.com. this was announced late yesterday. it wants to build its own online news service, nbc is buying microsoft interests in the venture that will be called nbc news.com. >> eric: new study shows hire college costs force parents to make tough choices. they report that the average amount fpls spend on college declined by 5% in the 2011-2012

school year. families turn to more cost saving strategies, choosing less expensive schools. a new survey out this morning paints a gloomy picture for the economy. they show the sales increases we saw earlier this year is disappearing and there is less hiring. other negative factors, europe's financial crisis and potential federal spending cuts and the possible expiration of bush tax cuts in december unless they reach an agreement. >> eric: finding a new job is tough in this economy but special for women. it includes 61% of jobs went to men in the last year. part of the reason is rebound in the mail dominated manufacturing

economy but men are also making inroads in formally female businesses like retail and areas like government where women have the majority of jobs are still suffering. >> kristen: men may be getting the jobs but new survey found women are getting the smarts. many of us has already thought. women are smarter than men. i didn't do the study. i'm just reading. female scores have risen above men. researchers say a possible explanation that women's lives are more demanding as they multi-task between raising a family and work. findings will be published in a book next year. multi-tasking could make you smarter. that is interesting. we do that everyday. >> i have small bone picked with the study, i always knew women are smarter than men.

look at the southwest wind at concord, 15. when we see these south winds over 10-15 miles an hour we are getting marine air all the way into the valley. it's going to be a cool day today and cooler still tomorrow and some spots before we turn the forecast around for more july like readings. low clouds and drizzle this morning with a much cooler day today. temperatures in a narrow range, 60s and 70s with 50s at our coast. looking at perhaps subtropical moisture and that warmup by the end of the week in to the weekend. >> cool couple of days and clear on our water vapor imagery. the area of low pressure and then it drops to the south of us and that will allow for us to stick around for 24-48 hours before we see the high pressure ridge build back in. numbers 5-15 degrees cooler

today. into the valley you know it's cool when you got 80 in sacramento. 60s along the coast to the south of us. ao9 50s here. 56 half moon bay. we've got 70 in palo alto. san francisco just 59 today and in the north bay, look for numbers ranging from the 60s in san rafael. 70 in santa rosa. it's going to take time to clear. east bay is breezy. sunshine and breezy winds, 72 in dublin and down by the monterey bay, cloudy now and cool and breezy with 71 in hollister. another cool day tomorrow. by the middle to the end of the woke week it's feeling more seasonal. >> no major accidents but reports of a new stalls out on the peninsula, westbound 80 coming off the bay bridge into san francisco. hopefully they will be cleared shortly. live shot of golden gate bridge and fog advisory has been cleared by the chp. you can see across the span.

for you this morning. >> i'm lisa argen. we have wind and clouds and mist and drizzle at our coast. >> i'm frances dinglasan. still looking good on bay area freeways, live shot of 680 in walnut creek but potential delays this morning. 5:30 a.m. i'm eric thomas. >> kristen: i'm kristen sze. breaking news in sunnyvale right now swarms of police officers from many agencies are searching for two home invasion burglary suspects. nick smith is live at the scene. >> reporter: good morning. we're still learning information at the scene but what i can tell you, we have a four-block radius at waverly and washington and florence, we have a home lit up by lights. we understand that police and members of santa clara sheriff's

department are looking for a possible home invasion suspect or suspects. here we do have canine units on the scene. we are at washing and waverly, mile east of highway 101 and over from el camino real. residents of this neighborhood will wake up to a bit of police activity. most people are just asleep right now but police are on the scene haveestricted this four block radius. we have not seen much police movement. they are more or less standing guard right now. canine units are on the ready. we have a public information officer on his way to the scene here now. what i can tell you, we got here the agencies were moving into action and block off this area and they have restricted any

kind of foot traffic, any type of movement into the area. if you are near the intersection here of waverly and washington, be prepared to use a detour because officers are standing by. i will learn more information and i will give you an update later in the show. >> kristen: we have breaking news out of vallejo where firefighters are on the scene of in house fire. we got video we adjudicate shot on sea wind drive. the roaring fire was first reported around 4:00 this morning and was brought under control in about 30 minutes. no word on any injuries or how this fire got started. we will bring you updates as information becomes available on the air and online at abc7 news.com. >> eric: thousands of san francisco muni riders could face delays this morning because of a protest planned on the anniversary of the man who was shot and killed during a police

chase a year ago. amy hollyfield is live in san francisco with the story. >> reporter: this protest is scheduled to get started in 30 minutes. we're here where it's supposed to start at 14th and church. no one is here and muni is running and muni spokesperson says the agency is aware this is scheduled. it will plan accordingly throughout the day. protestors are doing it now because it is the one-year anniversary of the death of kenneth harding. he died with a shootout with police after he did not pay his muni fare. initially it was believed that police shot him but the coroner ruled that the bullet that killed the 19-year-old came from his own gun. something the bay view community don't believe. that protestors wanted to shut down muni today. one man who lives here in the area they will work around it. >> it's pretty crazy. i grew up in san francisco.

nothing surprises me. it's pretty typical. >> reporter: the group is calling for a shutdown of muni today. all service to shut down starting at 6:00 this morning at 14th and mark. police tell us they are aware of the plan and they will help facilitate their first amendment rights and provide traffic control and will monitor the scene. federal and san francisco investigates are trying to figure out how someone cut into a secure communication facility. its bunker located between two towers on twin peaks. vandals cut a small portion of the fence surrounding the facility. some cables were cut but the vandals never got inside. >> all of our vital services that we provide to the city were

not impacted. >> kristen: this is one of the communication points for radio communication for police and fire. because of that the f.b.i. was called in. san francisco police are handling the investigation. >> eric: livermore police are investigating the circumstances involving the death of a man found in livermore hotel. a worker found the body of a middle-aged man in first floor room at the double tree hotel yesterday morning. death is being treated as suspicious until the coroner rules on a cause. autopsy is spending. >> kristen: opponents of $68 billion high speed rail plan plan to go to sacramento to call for an end to the project. they are facing several lawsuits and political pressure not to spend the money that voters approved before the economy sourced. a lawsuit brought by palo alto and menlo park will be discussed at the state capital. the city's claim the environmental analysis relies on

false ridership projections. >> a 22-year-old man from american canyon is facing charges for shooting at a police officer. 42 arrested robert folster after he evaded officers for almost 13 hours yesterday. it happened after routine traffic stop. they say he tried to drive away and then shot at the officer. the officer fired back. neither man was injured. in addition to the charges involving the officer, folster faces auto theft and possessing stolen weapon. >> eric: the wife of suspended share ross mirkarimi is expected to return to san francisco to testify. she has been living in native venezuela since march and plans to return there after her testimony on wednesday. they say lopez wants to be near her father who has had major cancer surgery. they have raised $1700 airfare

>>. >> kristen: five south bay women are showing what they can do to make a difference in war-torn afghanistan. they are helping a group of orphan boys. these are the faces of 17 afghan boys picked by five bay area women who decided try to save them from lives of begging and prostitution or sold into the is slavery. >> the five of us have made a difference. >> it starts out $150 per month per child. it gives them food, clothing, healthcare and education and housing. >> the women started the institute in 2005 with funding to help just five children. people donated $11,000 altogether and that is enough to keep the orphanage with 17 children for another six months. >> eric: animal rights activists are offering $10,000 to stop a plan to pay panhandlers to take

president obama will hold a townhall meeting in cincinnati while his opponent mitt romney plans a fund-raiser in louisiana with the governor there. he is not letting up his attacks on romney. mr. obama will hit him for his corporate tax proposals claiming they will help to create hundreds of thousands of jobs overseas. it's the latest in a series of attacks that has changed the subject from lackluster economy to questions about romney and bain capital. romney claims the attacks are false. he is demanding an apology. >> he should say he is sorry. >> we won't be apologetic. >> romney's tax returns is also an issue and even some republicans say she should release more than he has. >> eric: this year's aids walk

fog not quite as far into the tri-valley region but the winds are bringing the cooler air to the delta. live doppler 7-hd picking go up the low cloudiness around the bay. you'll need your wipers, a little mist and drizzle into the east bay, as well. temperatures this morning are fairly uin operating room in the -- uniform in the 50s. fog will pull back around 9:00 still over the bay into oakland and down the peninsula. north bay looks like you are waiting until the afternoon until you clear on out and breezy winds will be with us right on through the afternoon today and tomorrow. 54 in half moon bay. mile and three-quarter visibility along the coast. we have fog up in santa rosa, 52 degrees this morning. take a look we winds, gusting to 38 miles an hour. southwest wind at concord, out of the 80s today, lower 70s at best. low clouds, mist and drizzle this morning especially along
