her name is well known in silicon valley but what is not so well known and just becoming public is something that will affect her in the months ahead. terry mcsweeney is live at yahoo headquarters. >> she is going to be having a baby in a few months, that was bombshell after the first bombshell, 37-year-old melissa mayers is going to be taking over ceo in sunnyvale. this a company that has had five ceos in the pa five years, not including the interim ceos. the question is can she do what the others did not do. take a look at melissa yamer, suddenly one of the most prominent women in silicon valley. she is due in october. she comes over from google, a nice coup. she was hired as an engineer, she was behind the appearance g-mail and news and maps. yahoo needs that kind of

coming from a venture capitalist. she brings business acumen and geek ced to yahoo. >> in san francisco a new rally a planned for opponents of mayor's stop and frisk proposal. they are looking at programs other cities are using. one that allows people to search people that they consider suspicious. opponents say that will increase racial profiling. several supervisors are expected to join opponents in the day's rally. >> they are warning residents about a recent home burglaries. 20 have been reported since june 1st. most have taken place in the northern section of town. thieves are getting into homes unlocked doors and windows.

burlingame police recently arrested two young men. they were found with property taken from other burglaries. they are working to see if the suspects are connected to other peninsula case. >> marshawn lynch faces driving under the influence charges. we learn that he was arrested by the highway patrol in oakland saturday night. they booked him at the jail and released him early sunday. he was in oakland thursday night where his foundation presented a scholarship to a college bound oakland resident wounded in the shooting. he is cal's second all time leading rusher. he plays for the seattle seahawks now. >> eric: pablo sandoval is clear of charges that he sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman. d.a. will not file charges against the third baseman. it comes after they decided there was no cause to arrest sandoval.

the woman charged him and he said it was consensual. >> kristen: a 26-year-old hayward man admits to pouring vegetable oil on health stones to ward off evil spirits. he is charged with felony vandalism for defacing grave markers. cemetery workers discovered the damaged headstones last thursday. they arrested him on friday and took him to jail where he posted bail. it cost $5,000 to clean up the headstones. >> business is expected to return to normal this morning at san francisco's superior court following a strike by court clerks. hundred clerks and staffers walked off the job yesterday morning in an unexpected move. they claim the court's management is refusing to open the books to show the union why they should accept at 5% pay cut.

workers say they are open to making concessions but they should be allowed to make an informed decision. courts executive officer says many unions statewide have agreed to 5% wage cuts because they recognize they need to be part of solution. >> kristen: you may strike out next time you try to win a free parking space at at&t park. they are putting hundreds of new parking meters this summer. between now and next spring, it will extend the hours to 10:00 p.m. and increase the cost from 5 to $7 an hour. you'll have to pay seven days a week, no breaks on sunday. fans may not like it but many neighbors do. they say the goal is to reduce congestion near at&t park. they don't know which meters and which hours. >> it's so hard to snag free

university trustees will meet today to talk about what to do if the tax increases on the november ballot do not pass. the option go they are considering, $300,000 --300 in tuition creases a year. cutting 750 jobs, enrolling more non-resident students. those are some of the ideas. if the tax increase doesn't pass in november, csu would lose $250 million in state funding in this current year. those options are not popular especially since the board is also expected to approve raises for three campus presidents including the president here at san francisco state. money for the pay increase would come from money that is being raised privately but still students and faculty says the board is talking about cuts and pay increases say they are tone deaf. today is important because they

will be talking about this but they won't be voting. that is scheduled for september. so there is time to get familiar with the issue and express your opinion and get it in before they vote on it. >> eric: meantime, the possibility of a big tuition hike will be also be discussed by the u.c. board of regents during two days of meeting that begin in san francisco today. the regents are expected to endorse that freezes it at certain levels for tuition. u.c. leaders tuition at ten campuses could rise by more than 20% in january. this morning the f.b.i. is trying to find out how needles got into sandwiches on four different flights from europe to the u.s. it raises new questions about the safety of airline food. news report katie marzullo is live to tell us more. >> reporter: right now the

f.b.i. is on board working with delta to investigate all of this meanwhile, abc has exclusive interviews with two men that bit into the sandwiches and pricked by a needle. they were found in the sandwiches on four different flights. a man on the flight to minneapolis was one of passengers who was hurt although he refused medical attention. he described the painful moment. >> i took three bites out of the sandwich and bit down hard on something i thought was a bone, it was a turkey sandwich. i thought it was a bone. i pulled it out and it was a needle, about inch long, a little under an inch long. >> delta airlines has released a statement saying it has taken immediate action with our in-flight caterer to make sure

quality of food we provide. caterer says we take it very seriously. they immediately launched a full investigation to figure out the root cause and we are treating this as a criminal act. federal authority including the f.b.i. are investigating who had access to this food. hear more from the injured passenger coming up on gma at 7:00 a.m.. >> kristen: thanks so much. alameda county firefighters are looking into an apartment building fire in newark that left 20 people displaced. they say the fire started just after 10:00 when a cooking pot left on a kitchen stove caught fire. arriving crews called for help so they could keep it in spreading. fire also knocked out electricity to the building. >> eric: consumer watchdog group is calling for state regulators to shut down the evergreen oil refinery in newark. the recycling plant has had a

series of mishaps that has safety groups raising red flags. on january 6th a pipe leaked triggering an emergency evacuation. in march of last year a pipe burst and this past month, hazmat crews paid another visit to the plant after a 55 gallon drum blew open causing another vapor release. the group consumer watchdog is calling for the plant to shut down while the state investigates underlying problems. >> it's simply unacceptable to run a company off the hook that way for years at a time. >> eric: ceo sent a memo to employees, they say they are going through difficult financial times. the company is trying to bring the plant up to compliance. >> muni officials are expected to vote on a $6 million contracted to install video cameras on more than 350 buses. they capture all kinds of problems that happen on board

its buses. but the system is ten years old and many of the cameras don't work anymore. they will send live pictures to police and muni monitoring stations. new cameras would be installed on muni and electric buses over the next four years. >> officials in san francisco and oakland are set to consider separate measures in the city today on rank choice voting. they say the process has worked well while opponents say it's confusing. in san francisco there a plan to keep rank choice voting for all offices except the mayor's race. that contest would have a conventional election in september and runoff in november. there is also a compromise proposal where the two top vote getters in the mayor's race get to enter a runoff. in oakland, a city councilman wants to put a measure on the ballot that would overturn rank

choice voting. a warrant has been issued for a suspect for an attack on city councilman. he says he was attacked in tenant by a property that he manages. he woke up in his car near golden gate fields. they report he was told by investigators that a warrant has been issued for a man suspected of felony battery. richmond police would not reveal any new details about the case. >> eric: weather conditions are improving for firefighters battling the 26,000 acre robbers fire. the fire east of colfax is now 45% contained. lower temperature and higher humidity has slowed down the fire. they are trying to protect the hotel still threatened. they expected to be a pivotal day if the weather remains favorable and they hope to make

a senior advisor says romney has not finalize add decision on running mate but it could come in days. >> police in toronto are looking for one more suspect after a shooting at an outdoor panic that caused mass panic and injuries and two deaths. 19 people were injured. they have one person in interest in custody. right now police believe at least two people were involved in the shooting. toronto's police chief there was some kind of altercation before midnight at the large outdoor barbecue. two people started shooting the crowd panicked. authorities say that panic is what cautioned most of the injuries. delta is apologizing for a mistake that allowed passengers returning to the u.s. from mexico to bypass customs and security. it happened at the atlanta airport. passengers made their way through a door that led straight to the baggage claim bypass ago
