that movie theater shooting two nights ago. as the suspected shooter sits in jail tonight, people returned to the scene. >> i haven't been able to sleep. >> she was fortunate enough to get out of theater not long after the shooting began. >> he had a gun and bulletproof vest on and guns on him and one on his waist and he let it go off. >> she used to live in cupertino. they started to check on her friday morning because they know the theater is where she usually goes for big movie premieres. >> they know we live in this area and we love to go to the movies. >> she came back for her car but really didn't want to be there. >> malea did not return to the theater. >> it was just total chaos.

>> they live in san rafael but flew there with her mother and convinced them to to go to the midnight showing with friends. >> you worry whether they can drive to the theater. it never occurred to us to worry about something like this. >> the girls were one theater over from the shooting but a bullet pierced the wall and hit their friend. >> he had a hall about this big in his forearm and blood was coming out of it. >> they returned out the theater to get help for their friend who they say is good spirits today. >> reporter: they all say it's very surreal but the girls and mom seem to be doing well. also the girls were friendly and giggling together and they are not going to let them stop them from living their lives. when the conference wraps up tomorrow they are going head to the rocky mountains because they've never been there and

wanted to spend time in the mountains. james holmes booby-trapped apartment was cleared of explosives which could help lead to a motive in in had in massacre. a bomb squad blew up a device. chemicals inside were gathered up and driven to a remote location. police officials say the apartment was wired to kill whoever came through the door. >> there is going to be a police officer. so make no mistake what was going on there. we sure are hell angry. >> they should be finished investigating the apartment by monday. >> all 12 victims have been identified. the youngest is six-year-old. alexander jonathan blunt were

killed as for an air force sergeant. a mom with two children. the other victims many of the victims died heroes. david wright as their story. >> it was a real life heroes in the theater. people who saved their girlfriend's lives are sacrificing their own. john larrimer leapt over the seat to shield his girlfriend. alex jumped in front of his girlfriend taking a bullet that would have hit her. and target employee saved his girlfriend and co-workers the same way. she was injured, shot in the leg but her family says his quick actions saved her life.

>> this is cellphone video of the amc theaters moments after an order to evacuee was heard. all theaters were emptied out. according to san jose police, it was an alarm from a malfunctioning water main. they thought it was another attack. >> i thought it was a repeat of what happened. >> the complex was closed for a half an hour. security has been ramped up. san jose police have told officers to stop by the complex when not answering calls. at the metrian in san francisco, guardian angels have taken up patrols. just their presence is a deterrence. they look suspicious. our job is to make sure we can deter anything might happen. if anything the presence of a

shots were fired at chp squad car during a wild race during the streets in oakland tonight. sergio quintana is live near 66th avenue and we understand there were two vehicles involved? >> reporter: yeah, that's right and win of chases ended close to here. police tell us this all started because the chp officer noticed that one of the occupants of one

of those vehicles was not wearing a seat belt. as i mentioned, one of those chases ended here. there is a white van over here in the distance. we'll show you some of the video that we shot. we understand the white van tried to get away by wading in a canal. officers have told us they have not arrested anyone involved in this. a highway patrol officer tried to pull over the van. the driver did not stop. a black acura rammed the cruiser. they also fired at the officer, blowing out the rear window of that patrol car. chp officer was not injured. >> was the black acura involved? >> there was a warrant out on that stolen vehicle. we are working with a joint

investigation with the oakland police department. >> reporter: chp officer actually spun out because of the ramming and shooting. investigators are right now collecting evidence at three different scenes. of course, they are also trying to piece together exactly how the ago can you remember last was stolen. they believe it was a stolen vehicle. there are a lot of details they are still trying to work out. i'm sergio quintana, abc7 news. five-year-old oakland girl is recovering tonight after being shot in the neck during a drive-by shooting. police say the girl was walking with her mom and friend in front of fire station on 18 before 3:00 this afternoon. shots were fired from a car with no hubcaps. they rushed her to children's hospital in oakland but doctors aren't sure they can remove the bullet from her neck. here the. another letter containing

suspicious white powder has been sent to another police department. now, san francisco have all had similar letters delivered in the past 24 hours. the envelope arrived at san francisco's northern station on fillmore street around 11:00 a.m. today. four of five of the other envelopes contained flour, the response was immediate. >> we don't want to get a sense of complacency. if we get a report, like the police or politicians, we respond appropriately. >> substance was also flour. postal inspectors and the f.b.i. are now investigating. san jose fire officials say 21 people were treated with burns after they walked across hot coals during a motivational seminar. tony robbins put on the

the atmosphere, high pressure pressing down on the bay area. so that is going to allow for the marine layer to stay confined and shallow. we will see the fog stay along the shoreline and just a piece of it should move across the bay overnight. that should bring in cooling tomorrow. then a few degrees each and every day throughout the middle of the week. we will continue the cooling trend. it will be subtle. you can see a big cooldown like 15 degrees in one day. it will be anywhere to 3-5 degrees cooling tomorrow. here is the fog. then by 11:00 we will see mostly sunny conditions. fog will be around pacifica and daly city. some of it could be dense. that should clear and mostly sunny afternoon but with numbers a little cooler. if you are hoping for a more dramatic cool down, more mid-week we'll back in the 80s

by the afternoon, clearing and then we'll see mostly sunny conditions. temperatures coming down just a couple degrees. mid-90s in the east bay communities. that is a little bit cooling but you will feel the cooling at the coast. temperatures will be once again in the 60s. some 70s around the bay. if you have any exercising to do i would say get out and do it early. warm day unland and gradual cooling for wednesday and thursday. so overnight tonight, still quite warm out there in the 70s and east bay. we'll be dropping into the 60s by 5:00 in the morning. 56 in the fremont. some of the fog from richmond over into fremont and certainly in san francisco down the peninsula and northward up to marin county. we will have the gray to start out around parts of the bay. by 7:00 tomorrow, few areas of fog, noontime we're warming up, 60s and 70s by 4:00, 60s at our coast.
