good morning i'm kristen sze. eric is off today. we begin with the latest on the deadly shootings in colorado. the suspect james holmes is refusing to speak with authorities. he spent months stockpiling an arsenal of bullets and weapons. authorities believe he act add loan. katie marzullo -- he acted alone. katie marzullo joins us. >> reporter: in a few hours james holmes could be in court his appearance set for 7:30 this morning. he does not have to be present in court. it is possible his attorney, a public defender, could show up alone for the proceeding. holmes will not be charged today. prosecutors have three days to file the charges there will be

at least 71, one for each victim and probably more. authorities are no closer to knowing the motive. someone who knows holmes is speaking out the family pastor in san diego. >> he was a little on the quiet side. in one conversation it was obvious he was intelligent. he goals. going to be a professional. >> reporter: the police chief says holmes has lawyered up and not cooperating. as far as the stockpile of bullets at his home, 6,000 rounds were found. authorities say he bought them online which is unregulated. they say all of his purchases were legal. this time there's an effort to make the names of the victims more memorable than the name of the suspect. they will -- they were honored last night.

>> reporter: the turnout was incredible so many people came to pay their respects. as one man told me, there was a sense of family. a pledge from the community of aurora to the 12 people shot and killed in friday's movie theater shooting. this vigil at the municipal center brought crowds together. families, friends and the ever watchful eye of police this wasn't a time to be afraid. no gun man can shake this city's spirit. >> he will get his. >> reporter: many didn't know any of the victims. but it make nose difference. >> i think everyone is affected. >> reporter: together they stand. >> it is aurora, it is what we do. >> reporter: residents have been doing it all day, bringing flowers, stuffed animals and messages of love.

greg made a wooden cross for each victim and drove 16 hours from illinois to place them here personally. >> we want to show the family members that we're not going to forget their names. we just learned it yesterday no family member wants to be forgotten. >> reporter: the vigil lasted an hour and a half people stayed for hours. president obama also made a stop in aurora last night visiting with the families of those who lost their loved ones. >> the president: when you have an opportunity to visit with families who have lost their ones, as i described to them, i come to them, not so much as president, as i do as a father and as a husband. >> reporter: >> the president met some of the survivors -- in the hospital. he praised local police and other first responders for their efforts following the tragedy. abc news will have continuing

coverage of the massacre. you can get the latest any time on abc7news.com. after leeing colorado the president flew here to the bay -- after leaving colorado, the president flew here to the bay area, this time the east bay will be the focus. amy hollyfield is live at the inter-continental hotel in san francisco where mr. obama is staying. >> reporter: it is obvious someone important is here look at all the people here 4:30 in the morning. three blocks are shutdown in every direction around this hotel here at fifth and howard a officer told me there are 70 to 90 cops here. even hotel employees aren't allowed to park near the hotel. they have to walk in. president obama arrived at sfo last night about 8:15 he had just come from colorado where he met with victims families of the shooting at the movie

theater. he and mitt romney are both in the bay area, both sleeping in san francisco now. romney has a full schedule of fundraisers here in the bay area, so does the president and political consult taps say that's what this visit is about. >> california has solidly been a tate that barack obama is going to win for the past several years that. is not going to change. they are purely to raise money. >> reporter: the president will be at the fox theater late this afternoon in oakland. tickets start at $100 and go up to $7500. several downtown businesses will be shutdown to accommodate the visit. a large number of protesters is expected, extra police have been called in. something to keep in mind if you are working or living in downtown oakland late this everyone, early evening right by the commute sounds like it is going to be conjested.

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. our frances will of course how to maybe get around that this morning solano county fire crews are keeping a close watch on a 75 acre wildfire near vacaville first reported 2:30 yesterday afternoon. investigators say it appears to be accidental, but think haven't determined the cause. sky 7 hd was overhead as firefighters hustled to prevent the flames from reaching homes. 150 firefighters were called in. early on the flames raced up a hill towards this home where a nanny was taking care of a 1-year-old. >> i happened to walk out the backdoor and saw the flames and just went back in, grabbed the baby called 911 and left. >> helicopters made two dozen water drops. crews worked in 100° heat, very little wind, it took over

an hour to get the fire under control. update to a story we brought you at 11 last night. san jose apartment fire that left dozens looking for a new place to stay. it started after 9:00 last night. officials tell us flames were confined to one apartment on camden drive. two people were injured, one burned the other with smoke inhalation. the fire was in one unit, other residents, up to 50 people left homeless the cause has not been determined. a lot of people headed to the pool yesterday many hope had you a great weekend. meteorologist lisa argen in for mike. going to be nice, nice range from 60s at our coast to mid 90s inland. we have activity to talk about this morning. system bringing us cooler weather also bringing up subtropical moisture, thunderstorms in the
