gasps and a lot of sadness. some believe it was a boyfriend and girlfriend in their 30s. firefighters' theory is the fire started on the bottom floor and they were trapped upstairs. this started 3:30 this morning. in martinez this is the briars apartment building. they evacuated three buildings, several people on the sidewalk trying to figure out what to do next. there are 60 people displaced. they are waiting for the red cross to arrive to help. firefighters did have to encourage two people to leave their homes. they had gone back to retrieve their things. firefighters had to come in and force them to get out those two had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. everyone else was okay. firefighters are waiting for investigators to try and figure out what caused this fire. they get it out, the fire is out, this is all just happening.

they got the call 3:30 this morning. at this point, they don't know what started it, but they are waiting for investigators to get here. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. president obama will wake up in san francisco in a couple of hours and get ready to leave the bay area for stops in the pacific northwest. while he was here, the president fattened his campaign war chest. terry mcsweeney is live in san francisco with detail. >> reporter: the president right now at the inter-continental hotel. every time a president comes to town, take a look it is an impressive show of security by secret service, san francisco pd police officers blocking off streets around the hotel, bomb squad truck, san francisco mobile command center a block away all standard operating procedure when president obama comes to town. it wasn't this town he came to, to raise money that was in oakland no doubt about how they feel about him.

with small business owners in orange county. nearly 12 hourlong police standoff in oakland is over. the s.w.a.t. team surrounded the house 3:00 yesterday afternoon where investigators tracked a pair of suspects had who they say shot at a highway patrol officer last weekend. officers from several agencies, including the federal government were on the scene until the stand off ended around 3:00 this morning with one person taken into custody. update to breaking news we brought you yesterday morning. san jose police still looking for the killer of a man and woman explain in a home while their children slept. it happened yesterday morning, someone stormed into a house on north 7th street, after a loud argument, killed the couple. they were high school sweethearts, police say the couple was targeted. a neighbor saw a man running from the house. >> i didn't see his face. he had the hoodie on and

richmond residents will -- plans call for a two million square foot complex on the southern shoreline similar to the lawrence livermore lab. the facility will house 800 scientists researching bioscience, cancer, bioenergy and other cutting-edge work due to open in 2016. tomorrow governor brown is scheduled to unveil his plans to build two giant tunnels that would carry water from the sacramento river to tracy for delivery to southern california. the 14 billion dollar plan could reopen wounds from 1982 when voters rejected plans to build a canal to do the same thing this project calls for restoring the delta levees. the state has green in population increasing the need for the pipeline it would feed

big purchases. last year cisco cut 10,000 jobs. latest cuts account for 2% of the company's workforce. apple said to report second quarter earnings today analysts will be watching to see if the company will hide its assets, a net coming of 10 million dollars expected, apple hides some with a tax maneuver. apple's profits over the past three years could be 10 billion higher without the so-called phantom taxes. corporations and taxes have been a presidential campaign hot button issue. amazon.com is now helping some employees pay the high cost of education giving workers up to $2,000 for extra training some jobs include aircraft mechanics, machine tool technologies and medical training.

sale again today to benefit stow. a black bear that wandered into a sears store in pittsburgh, pennsylvania gained national headlines. the search is on now for a bigger bear in the area this morning. the 300 pound bear was spotted sunday and monday caught on camera by a 7year old boy with a camera wildlife officials are setting traps. this is not far from the pittsburgh mills mall where a cub wandered into the sears at the mall saturday night. that bear sent shoppers scrambling around closing time before it was sedated and relocated to the woods. imagine taking a picture in a shopping center photo booth then all of a sudden one of the world's most famous athletes pops up. this happened in london. >> oh my god! >> soccer star david beckham

their bare feet, pajamas waiting to get help and feeling emotional about what happened to them. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. oakland police closed off streets around west grand and telegraph last night while she searched for a robbery suspect. the robbery was reported 8:30 at an apartment complex in the 500 block of west grand. police told resident to stay in and others to avoid the area. protesters were walking through the neighborhood marching to and from the fox theater where president obama was giving a speech. police say the robbery is not believe to be related to the protest. police in richmond investigating the death of a father killed during a struggle over a gun with his son around 7:00 last night in a house on sun court police say 41-year-old james morris was shot and killed during an argument, they are not releasing the name and age of

his son the case is being investigated as a possible homicide. police found dozens of deadly booby traps in the apartment belonging to the man accused of the colorado movie theater massacre. katie marzullo is live in the breaking news center with more. >> reporter: faced with seeing james holmes in court in person yesterday some family members of the victims were crying, others expressed anger. his appearance has evoked curiosity nationwide his hair dyed reddish orange and appeared medicated. holmes is accused of killing 12 and injuring dozens more. a bright spot this morning, hearing from two young survivors, one who saved the other. >> just stay down, i can't breathe, do something she was like stay down and be quiet. >> we both survived.

this is the third night last night several dozen people marched through the neighborhood where the 25-year-old man was killed saturday followed a chaotic protest sunday night where people set a dumpster on fire. the shooting victim was one of three men who ran from police in alleyway saturday. the second deadly shooting by anaheim police over the past weekend. organization behind motivational speaker tony robbins is responding to complaints about 21 firewalk attendees in san jose who suffered second and third degree burns to their feet after walking across hot coals. a statement says of the 6,000 who walked across 10 feet of hot coals thursday night only a small number experienced pain or minor injuries. it has been providing the experience for more than three decades and always with emergency personnel standing by. tony robbins is the popular motivational speaker who encourages firewalking to show people can overcome their fears. the maker of muppets

welcome back. sunshine, temperatures close to if not a little below average. showers and thunderstorms in the sierra have ended most of that moving east 90s through the central valleys. mid to upper 70s from san diego to l.a.. 5:48 now. a plane carrying four people was forced to make an emergency landing on a southern california freeway. the piper ran out of gas according to the by loot. he had to land in the -- to the pilot he had to land in the southbound lanes, traffic light no cars were hit.
