many lost homes and some lost family members following those two events. it was an 8.9 magnitude quake and following that a 23-foot tsunami. and the u.s. embassy in japan decided to help support recovery of the area area. that is how the initiative began and it means friendship. these 300 students will be mainly at cal for three weeks and will visit sacramento go to an a's game, meet olympic gold medalist kristi yamaguchi and stay with a bay area family for a weekend. this is part of that recovery of northeastern japan. >> we thought one way was to invest in younger generation and give them experiences that these kids goring to have.
