nick smith, abc7 news. you can read that entire report regarding the oakland police department on our website we have a link at abc7news.com. click on see it on tv. suspect in custody now following an attack near lake merritt that left a woman seriously injured this morning. she was found unconscious, not breathing in the 1500 block of lakeside drive. police received a call after 6:00. investigators say the woman was hit over the head. she was taken to the hospital. police believe the woman knew her tacker. they say she apply but they are not releasing details on her condition or who she is. santa rosa police investigating an accident that killed a bicyclist this morning. the cyclist hit 7:30 riding westbound on fountain grove by a driver making a left on to thomas avenue the driver of the car stopped and is cooperating. the name of the cyclist not released. intersection closed more than four hours.

update to a story we brought you last thursday. the driver of a car who slammed into an east palo alto house and narrowly missed hitting a sleeping baby has turned himself entitle the 20-year-old driver told police he ran after crashing into that house because he was scared many police have not released his name. the district attorney will decide what charges that driver will face. two teenagers suspected of committing a series of smartphone robberies targeting bart passengers have been arrested july 18th. investigators believe the teens are also responsible for robberies at the glen park, 16th street and 24th street stations. police say the thieves stalked targets and robbed them at the station. they used pepper spray on anybody trying to intervene. bart police are looking for more victims. go to abc7news.com to find information on how to contact authorities if you think you

were robbed by those teens >> another delay in the case of the south bay man accused of murdering 15-year-old sierra lamar. antolin garcia-torres was to enter a plea today that hearing was postponed. he was appointed a new attorney. about a dozen friends and supporters of the lamar family showed up at the courthouse. many of them have been involved in the search for the 15-year-old who disappeared march 16th on her way to the school bus stop. her body has still not been found. >> just being there, my presence, it is supporting the family. they are not -- they are not able to be here. by us being there we are supporting the family that's all that matters. >> reporter: why aren't they here? >> i'm not sure i don't think they are emotionally ready. >> garcia-torres' family also showed up today. they told abc7 news they strongly believe he's innocent. he's been held without bail sis arrest in may. police say they have dna evidence linking him to lamar.

came farmville has been hit with a class action suit alleging insider trading. the suit claims executives of zynga knew the company was struggling when they sold millions of shares before announcing a substantial drop in projected earnings. last week zynga reported -- zynga shares have dropped 40%. supporters of california's ban on same-sex marriage are taking their case to the u.s. supreme court. they've petitioned the high court to overrule the 9th circuit court of appeals ruling that struck down california's prop 8 ban as unconstitutional. the appellate judges issued their decision earlier this year. if the high court declines to take the case that will clear the way for same-sex marriages to resume in california. time to check in with the high court of weather. summer's heat continues to scorch our inland location, a

the preventive services group says the ekg should be reserved for adults who have high risk of cardiovascular disease. adults who don't show symptoms should not undergo those tests. the task force joins the american heart association calling for fewer tests like these a single ekg costs up to $50. beginning tomorrow health insurance companies will be required bay law to provide key benefits for women, free part of the affordable care act signed by president obama in 2010. health insurance policies must provide cervical cancer screenings, hiv and std testing and counts lynn for domestic violence, with no out-of-pocket costs for women policy holders. top administration officials praise those changes as the first steps to full national health care reform for women. >> it will also be illegal finally in america, to charge women more than men, just

because they are women. in other words, being a woman will no longer be a preexisting condition in this country. those new benefits are expected to cover 47 million more women who do not receive the benefits. plans that already provide the services at no cost will not change. it seems that saying about sticks and stones got it wrong. words can be just as harmful. that's the warning from a group of pediatricians who say belittling or neglecting a child is as devastating as physical or sexual abuse. they say it can lead to mental illness. they are asking family doctors to keep a closer eye for signs of emotional maltreatment. a bidding war may be breaking out for peet's coffee. peet's already has a one billion dollar offer on the table from a german company making it one of the most expensive beverage proposals in u.s. history.

washington. president obama does not have public events scheduled today. this is san antonio mayor julian castro during a previous appearance on cnn, he will be the first latino to deliver a keynote address at a democratic convention. experts say mr. obama will need significant support from hispanic voters to win battleground states. the first lady will also take the stage when the convention kicks off tuesday september 4th. los angeles mayor revealed big plans. he said he's not interested in becoming president. but, interested in becoming governor of california. his term as mayor of los angeles ends july 2013. after that he says he will want to join university or think tank and speak around the country. he was chosen to gavel this year's convention in charlotte.
