>> i'm mike nicco. look at live doppler 7-hd. more clouds this morning and it is dry and temperatures in the 50s right now. we'll talk about the 90s in the forecast. >> katie: i'm katie marzullo in for kristen sze. >> eric: i'm eric thomas. san francisco police are searching for two suspects after a shooting that left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries. it happened on san bruno avenue. they were standing in front of a building when two men shot them. the suspects left the scene in a white four-door car. stay with abc7's morning news. terry mcsweeney will have more on the story coming up. >> katie: this morning, funeral services will be held for a san jose couple that was murdered in their home last week. a fund-raiser was held for the three surviving children of them. they are still looking for suspect. they think he killed the couple

because the mary bell broke up with him. all the money will go to the couple's children who will now be raised by a family member. >> i don't want to be in their position right now. i feel sorry for all those things. >> investigators say they have reason to believe the suspect is armed and dangerous and on his way to mexico. if you see him call 911. do not confront him. >> eric: a few hours from now, volunteers will hold another search for missing sierra lamar. torres the man accused of killing her will not enter a plea in the case until next month at the earliest. about a dozen friends and supporters of lamar family showed up for a hearing yesterday. many of them have been involved in the search for the 15-year-old. lamar disappeared march 16th on her way to school bus on her way

to school. they have dna evidence linking torres to lamar. >> a program begins in san francisco to rescue dogs from the city's animal shelter. the mayor's homelessness chief came up with the idea to have people living in city supported how go to give up panhandling and get 75 a week to take care of animals. the program will begin with five dogs and ten caregivers who have been screened. >> eric: this morning an arrest warrant is out for a man that attacked a councilman. charles beale is accused of punching a councilman on july 3rd. he fell and his head and the next thing he was waking up in his car.

the attack happened when he went to introduce himself on tenant and police too feel that he is that tenant. lieutenant john pike has been on paid leave of be a essence since a confrontation with protestors last november. the investigation still continues. university will only say pike no longer works at the school. >> eric: u.s. postal service will do something today, default on a payment to the treasury. they are required to make a $5.5 billion payment as part of a ten-year plan to pay for health benefits for postal workers. they are facing a $14 billion deficit as people do not send more letters and use e-mail. it's not expected to affect their salaries but it's another sign facing the postal service.

>> motorists are being asked to decide between a parcel tax increase and fire district closures. would it increase the parcel tax by $75 a year. extra money would be used to keep ten fire stations open. that is more than a third of the stations in central contra costa county. >> katie: classes at cal state university will get started on time this month. the faculty union has agreed to a four-year contract that would air veteran rolling strikes. they have been working without a contract for two years. new agreement provides for some jobs ability but no pay raises. the contract covers 23,000 professors. they will get to vote on it next month. >> a janitor strike is on old hoeld in morning in san francisco. hundreds of janitors have threatened to walk off the job at midnight but union representatives are holding on

off on calling a strike while negotiations are ongoing. they have been holding a series of street rallies to protest the lack of a contract. the sticking point is health care premiums. >> eric: time for that first look at the weather forecast for this wednesday. >> katie: let's check in with mike. >> nice to see you both this morning and you also this early hour. it's showing a dry sky. visibility about two and a half miles. some will spill into the bay over the next few hours and keep an eye on that no flight arrival delays at sfo. storms are well off to our east. we are still under an area of high pressure which means we have a little haze this morning. visibility is not perfect but the only place of concern is half moon bay at two and a half miles. as far as our temperatures, we're running cooler except for livermore and half moon bay

because of the cloud cover. as we head through 7:00 most of us in the 50s. you see the clouds trying to spill in the bay over the next two and a half hours or so. quickly back to the coast we have a lot of sunshine around the bay. mid-50s and mid-70s lunchtime temperatures. low to mid 80s inland and upper 50s to mid 60s along the coast into san francisco. by the afternoon, we'll see a lot of sunshine, low to mid 50s from there into san francisco. low to mid-70s around the bay and still 90s holding on in the east bay valleys. 60s and 70s around the bay. 70s and 80s inland. clouds are getting thicker along the coast. they will move in more tomorrow but quickly erase and temperatures peak in the upper 80s tomorrow inland. four to six degrees cooler on friday and another four to eight degrees cooling on saturday.

i am ready this time. here we go back to the macarthur maze, traveling off of 880 overnight road work, pretty much what you are going to get this time in the morning. relatively light and westbound direction 80 headed to the bay bridge, no metering lights, everything smooth sailing. road work through marin county, both directions and definitely slow traffic as you head your way through up to mill valley and sausalito and waldo grade down to one lane. repaving all the way to the north tower of the bridge. once you get past that you are wide open with two lanes. so expect slow traffic through southern marin. 101 both directions in north bay rohnert park also road work there and rohnert park expressway off-ramp will be

closed until 7:00 this morning. southbound on the peninsula, 101 at san anthony road, don't see any significant slowing if you are making your way out. >> katie: it's just going to 4:39. >> a warning to riders from bart police. >> when the train approached the stop, they signaled each other. >> next the expensive items police say thieves are targeting in a series of robberies. >> they are blaming the bad roads for the death of a person. take the gamble out of stain removal.

chased them at balboa park station in san francisco. police say that is when the suspect used pepper spray and managed to escape. >> it appears they would pepper spray people in order to intimidate them or help them get away faster. >> not just your cellphone are being stolen, even ipads. >> katie: two young men in that case have been arrested, bart police believe there are even more victims and they want people to come forward. investigators are sure the same type of crime have occurred on trains at balboa park, glen park 16 and 24th street stations. >> the family of a cyclist killed in a tragic accident, they say the city was warned about dangerous road conditions but did nothing to fix it. it happened on grizzly peak boulevard. alan wang has more. >> reporter: a rut in the road

ended the life of 53-year-old alan lee. he was father of two and avid cyclist from alameda. >> he trained, he went riding yet all the proper etiquette. >> last september he was rounding this curve with a cycling group when his tire got caught in a crack. he lost control and flew off his bike into an oncoming car. a friend notified his wife. >> i'm so sorry. silly me -- >> i predicted. somebody is going to get hurt on this road. >> tom has been asking the city to fix this heavily tveled road since 2009. >> then when the accident happened, finally something happened but they didn't fix the road. >> he took upon himself to mark

hopefully we'll keep it that way. go to abc7news.com and down to the bottom where you'll find flight tracker. >> eric: investigators are on board a plane in boston after yet another scare in the skies. it ended up scrambling fighter escorts for an international airlines flight out of newark. >> reporter: tense moments aboard a jumbo jet headed from newark to switsder land. plane diverted, escorted by fighter jets after a flight attendant noticed something unusual, a camera in the back of an empty seat. he told the pilot who changed course landing at the closest airport logan field. passengers were re-screened and camera inspected. they say the measures were taken out of an abundance of caution. another emergency aboard a plane yesterday. a gaping hole near the nose of

this united 737 on approach to denver international, the plane collided what appears to be a large bird. none of the passengers or crew were injured. bird strikes are a growing threat. they cost the industry $650 million in damage every year. one of the most famous when sully sullenberger landed on the hudson river. this time what looks like a sewing needle on monday. no word on whether the scare is connected to the half dozen needles that were found in sandwiches on four separate flights. >> one other note to bird strikes, they are rising. they say in 1990 there were 1800 in 2010, there were more than 9600. >> in arizona firefighters rescued nine people including a

baby from several vehicles which were caught in fast moving floodwaters in northern phoenix. it took crews about an hour to pull the people from three cars. monsoon came up really fast and floodwaters reached four feet. turning the highway into a river. the roadway was closed overnight with five miles of it submerged and nobody was injured. >> eric: we don't have that issue around here. what do we have around here? we had heat yesterday. >> you probably need the air-conditioner inland. one more day tomorrow, cooler weather is on the way. good morning. welcome to wednesday. you can see a few clouds hanging around the bay this morning also the moonlight shining off the bay. we'll keep an eye on those clouds. hopefully they won't be thick enough nor will they last long enough to cause flight arrival delays. live doppler showing just how

minuscule the clouds are this morning, they don't have rain nor drizzle so we are clear as you head outside. 51 in onto antioch and livermore. most of us need to dress for temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. look at all those 50s. monterey 52. sunshine, mild to hot temperatures from the coast to to inland. coast and bay will have clouds tonight. i think we'll be just a few degrees cooler than this morning. we do have the cooling trend over the weekend. here is a look at the cloud cover that tries to roll across san francisco. golden gate bridge, reach over and touch hercules, richmond, albany, oakland and possibly down to the san mateo bridge. by 9:00 to 10:00 it's back to the coast where it's going fall apart during the afternoon hours. hot inland and warm around the bay and if you want free a.c.

head to the coast. low to mid-80s through most of the south bay. upper 80s around los gatos. heading up the peninsula, 80 in palo alto and drop down to the mid to upper 70s. low 60s along the coast, upper 60s for downtown san francisco. mid to upper 80s in north bay valleys. 90s all the way to cloverdale and then 35 degrees cooler at your beaches. 70s throughout east bayshore. hercules could make 80. dublin at 90. 90 in the morning an hill. 70 in watsonville. 64 in monterey. if you are traveling the state. going to be in the hundreds throughout central valley. 84 in tahoe. thunderstorms possible again. we have some flooding around palm springs yesterday. those storms are going to be lurking once again. bring it back home.

you see a few clouds around the bay. most of us will be pretty mild tonight. temperatures in the 50s. heated peaks tomorrow about two degrees warmer than today and we drop four to six degrees friday and another four to eight degrees saturday. temperatures in the mid 80s inland a over the weekend. mid-70s around the bay and low 60s at the coast. good morning. we go back to peninsula, 101 southbound at san antonio road, still we have a stall but no major slowing past the scene. overnight road work, paving is going to continue until 6:00 this morning, both directions of 101 through marin county, specifically starting all the way up to sausalito up to the golden gate bridge. we'll take a look how that is faring. rohnert park expressway the off-ramp in rohnert park will be

closed for construction until 7:00 this morning. san rafael, southward past the civic center, traffic is flowing smoothly. golden gate bridge, just saw the crews heading in the northbound direction to open open up those lanes. four south and two north and traffic is very light. >> eric: supporters of same-sex marriage ban have officially taken their case to the u.s. supreme court. proponents of proposition 8 have petitioned the courted to overturn the decision that found it to be unconstitutional. nine member appeals courted panel is reviewing the decision. if they decline to take the case it will clear the way for same-sex marriages to resume. >> pay cuts are coming to prosecutors in contra costa county. board of supervisors have voted to impose a labor contract that calls for 5% cut in wages

starting september 1st. this isn't the first time they have imposed on any of the labor unions but prosecutors say they might strike. >> we have an update to a story we first brought you last week. the driver of a car that slammed into an east palo alto house and narrowly missed a sleeping baby is in custody this morning. he turned himself over yesterday. he says he ran away after colliding with the house because he was scared. >> they warning you not to eat too much fish from san francisco bay. they are putting up signs that some fish contain high levels of dangerous chemicals including mercury. among those fish, shark, perch, striped bass, crab, smel t and halibut. have you ever wondered what
