have as much to do with doing good as looking good. >> good evening, i'm terry moran. tonight more olympic triumph for team usa as nathan adrian wins the 100 meter men's freestyle race. and the women's relay is won as well. so how do champions like these fuel up for victory. that's a 10,000 calorie question. the answer isn't just tofu, it's fast food, from big macs to milk shakes. jeffrey kofman comes to us from the london games to tell us how these athletes are really chowing down. >> and the 48--year-old record -- >> america's solid gold

built here at olympic park is the biggest mcdonald's in the world. that's where two olympic american swimmers gorged on quarter pounders and fries. ryan lochte has boasted that he lived on mcdonald's every day during the beijing olympics in 2008. phelps became a spokesman for subway. when you see how these guys train, you begin to understand how they can burn a super-sized 10,000 calories in a day, four times the recommended daily calorie intake for an adult male. so these superstar say they're eating eight to 10,000 calories a day of fast food. what does that look like? >> can i get eight hamburgers, four big macs. i've got it. this is the breakfast, lunch, and dinner of champions. this is the 10,000-calorie diet. what do i get? let's see. a lot of hamburgers.

four shakes. oh, i got fries -- lots of fries. four cokes and then more burgers. 10,000 calories. the wall street journal notes that some athletes training menus sound like a wish list for a kids birthday party. nathan adrian loves fatty desserts. kathleen hershey loves chocolate. missy franklin prefers sundaes topped with gummy bears. >> we dropped in on the daily practice of the u.s. team at a stadium in east london. sanya richard ross will be running in the 200 and 400 meter races. >> the guys have so much more freedom know than the girls. we're sitting next to the french basketball team and they're all eating mcdonald's. we're eating a salad and grilled chicken, but women tend to pack

on weight quicker than guys do. >> disk us throw lance can eat all he wants. he figures he burns 8,000 calories a day. he eats six times a day, but not fast food. >> what was breakfast today? >> i ate six hard-boiled egg, hash browns, bowl of cereal, couple of boxes of milk and orange juice. >> remember the movie super-size me and what happened to the director who ate only mcdonald's food for 30 days. he gained 24 pounds and his cholesterol went through the roof. mcdonald's is a little sensitive about that but not shy about embracing the olympics. it's a major sponsor here and about embrinac olympians. mcdonald's sent us a statement which says in part, we are offering or most extensive menu ever at these games, deli wraps,
