good morning. thank you for joining us i'm katie marzullo in for kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. campus police are in the middle of an all-out search for a domestic violence suspect. the suspect escaped custody overnight following some sort of dispute. the suspect is still believed to be in hand kufs. officers are now sweeping the stanford campus. terry mcsweeney will bring a live report shortly. also new, all lanes of westbound highway 24 near orinda are open after a fatal accident involving a motorcycle and vehicle collided before 2 a.m. the driver of the motorcycle was killed. he may have been struck by another vehicle after the initial crash. authorities detained a person

at scene. an investigation is underway into what caused the accident. westbound lanes were closed for an hour. share the rolled, share your bart train. bart is about to start an experiment that could make things more crowded. amy hollyfield is live in the east bay. what is bart trying? >> reporter: katie, are you ready to try something new bart says it is willing to give it a try. how do you feel about skip this step, instead of parking your bike and climbing onboard the train, skip this step, take your bike right onboard with you. they are going to start this tomorrow. you can take your bike even bart. they are only going to do this on fridays just month. then they are going to be interviewing a lot of people to find out how it works. right now there's a bike blackout on bart weekdays from 7:05 to 8:50 and then in the afternoons to 6:45 you cannot

take your bike they think the rush hour trains are too crowded. however, bart officials realize allowing weeks -- allowing bikes would increase ridership. bikes are still not allowed on the first car even during the experiment. bike advocates hope people won't try to shove their bikes on a packed train. can we all get along? that is the question that is being asked. that's what they are going to try to resolve. a lot of people are saying they do this in new york, why not here. starting tomorrow fridays in august. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this morning san jose police are looking for shooters who wounded two men last night before 8:30 near intersection of warm springs drive. two men in late teens suffered nonlife-threatening injuries.

their names have not been released. suspect goes away. this morning richmond police detectives are asking for the public's help in finding the killer who beat and sexually assaulted an elderly woman. she died tuesday night, six months after she was attacked. she was found bloody and barely conscious three blocks from senior apartments where she lived. investigators say they do not have leads because she never regained consciousness enough to answer questions. >> i don't go out late when it is dark. always i go with my children. >> the police department is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is responsible. oakland's police chief has started moving officers assigned to community policing

to crime reduction teams in an effort to put more identifies on the streets. the chief previously said he would wait until after he unveiled his plan to the city council in september. yesterday, the city auditor released a report that found the department wasted two million dollars of taxpayer money on technology that was rarely or never used. monday, a federal monitor was critical of the department's compliance of court-ordered reform. san francisco police trying to explain why officers failed to search a homeless man's car after he admitted to having a rifle and shotgun inside. officers had encounters with robert johns twice. the first time he surrendered two guns. police officers placed him into psychiatric care after they say he threatened his family but they never searched his car. officers arrested him july 22nd. he a shotgun, 14 knives and

east bay 1% increase. 4:36. state finance officials hope to complete a much anticipated review of hundreds of special funds by tomorrow. they want to see if if more money has been hidden. last week governor brown's administration discovered leaders in the state park system hid more than 53 million dollars by not reporting it for a dozen years. officials are making sure accounts from the 560 special funds matches balances with what has been reported. finance officials acknowledge there could be as much as 37 billion dollars hiding inside state coffers. health warning for swimmers. east bay regional park district says the level of coliform bacteria in the water at shadow cliffs exceeds health levels but not enough to close recreation at the reservoir near pleasanton. swimmers are advised to not swallow the water, take a shower and dry off early after

their swim. high bacteria readings are not uncommon after hot weather. northbound lanes of i-5 are closed because of a raging wildfire near mount shasta. 350 acre fire erupted 1:30 yesterday afternoon 10% contained flames destroyed one building. 100 others are threatened forcing evacuation. the forest service is warning there's a high to extreme chance that fire will continue to grow. 4:38. we have a couple of warm days nothing dangerous. >> this morning just a little fog over my head, you could see the light shining through it. definitely out there, mainly hugging the coast trying to spill across san francisco redeveloping along the east bay shore wasn't thick, didn't get mist or drizzle on my car.

custody overnight believed to still be in handcuffs in his late 30s and weighs 200 pounds, 5'8. police are warning residents con campus to lock windows and doors and stay inside while the search continues. terry mcsweeney is gathering new information and will bring us a live report from stanford coming up shortly. abc news has obtained exclusive report about james holmes suspected shooter in the movie theater massacre about warning signs and whether the university could have or should have taken action. tahman bradley has more. >> reporter: this morning, questions about whether there were warning signs before james holmes allegedly carried out the colorado movie theater massacre. the psychiatrist, dr. fenton who was treating holmes at the university of colorado was a key member of the school's threat assessment teams. documents show fenton wrote

the policy on threat assessment. denver affiliate reporting that by early june dr. fenton notified other members of the team about her concerns about holmes' behavior. but june 10th, three days after holmes bought an assault weapon the ph.d student told the university he was quitting. according to what -- to sources the larger assessment team never had a formal meeting and never intervened, thinking they had no control over holmes once he left. experts say the exit should have been a red alert. >> you should intense efforts not walk away. under those circumstances, most well trained threat assessment teams would have gone into action. >> reporter: listen to what the chancellor claimed this week. >> to the best of our knowledge we did everything that we think we should have done. >> reporter: those words are being challenged as those close to the victims wonder could this tragedy had been
