fine and traffic is light out of marin county. we'll check out the san mateo bridge for you, traffic flowing well in both directions, taillights westbound a little more crowded not slowing. 6:02. the highway patrol made an arrest after a dramatic high speed chase that led identifies back and forth across the bay. it started in pittsburg shortly before 2 a.m. and continued on to san francisco, before turning around and heading back east on the lower deck of the bay bridge. chp put out spike strips and it worked but the driver continued on to concord where he got out and ran. the 28-year-old was arrested after officers and police dog chased him didn't. no word on why he tried to get away from police who are working up a list of charges to file against him. this morning a female san jose parolee facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a police

officer. according to the san jose mercury news officers tried to stop the woman 5:30 last night on story road but she took off, she hit an officer who had gotten out of his car to try and stop her, he suffered a knee injury. later she rammed another patrol car sending an officer to the hospital with bake injury. limited program allowing bikes on bart during friday rush hour is rolling today. bart will use passenger feedback to develop more policies. bikes are normally banned on bart during the morning and evening commutes on all lines but the richmond fremont many want it to day that way. bike riders will be discouraged from boarding cars that are too crowded the goal is to double the number of bike riders traveling on bart. governor brown defending the state's construction of the new bay bridge following several reports questioning its safety. the sacramento bee has raised

questions about the bridge's structural integrity and ability to withstand a major quake. the first investigation came out in may. governor brown responded and said engineers tell him the investigation is baseless and not very credible. the bee stands by its reporting. in an almost unbelievable turn of events another gas leak at ground zero in san bruno. this time, no damage. pg&e says a backhoe used by a private contractor ruptured a two inch plastic pipe yesterday at the intersection of earl and glen view drive. the same intersection in september of 2010, a gas transmission pipe burst triggering explosion and firestorm that killed eight and nearly burned a neighborhood to the ground. it took crews half an hour to cap the leak yesterday, 14 homes were evacuated as a precaution. police have located a

good friday morning. boxer floyd mayweather is a free man released from a las vegas jail this is video of mayweather inside a las vegas courtroom in june before the start of his time in jail. a judge sentenced mayweather to three months after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery. his former girlfriend accused him of pulling her hair and twisting her arm. mayweather only served two

get across the span this is until further notice. traffic is flowing well. also, we have this crash westbound 4 l street heavy traffic in antioch. coming up on 6:32. this morning, one person under arrest after a police chase that began in contra costa county, crossed the bay and came back. amy hollyfield is live in concord where it ended. >> reporter: we have video of the chase. you have to see this one car that led multiple police agencies on a chase for one hour across four county lines. chp got the call that local police needed help chasing a stolen car 1:45 this morning. they chased him through solano, alameda, contra costa, san francisco, he went across the bay bridge, came back over it. they put out spike strips and they did deflate his tires but he kept going driving on his

rims that's why you see the sparks, surprising veteran officers. >> only thing that struck they was the sparks that were being thrown from the wheel of the tire and visually that was something that was new for how long it went. >> reporter: the they arrested a 28-year-old man they haven't released his name or anything about his record that could suggest why he was working so hard to get away. at this point all they know was that car was stolen. the chase ended in concord highway 4, willow pass road police say he driven so long on his rims he had worn half of them way he jumped out of the car and ran police and a police dog caught up with him. now they are working on the list of crimes they will be charging him with. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this morning san francisco

police inspectors searching for a person of interest in a diamond heights murder investigation. detectives released this sketch, they say he was the last person seen with the 28-year-old, found murdered in his apartment nearly two months ago. police say he been bound and gagged, last seen getting into a taxi with the suspect in front of a castro street bar at 1:30 in the morning on june 12th. sheriff's department investigating remains of a teenaged girl and a fetus found in a well near linden. remains were found in march with the bodies of two other women. they are all likely victims of the so-called speed freak killers. wesley shermantineand already recent herzog. the unidentified remains fit the profile of a -- the remains of the other two victims are being sent to their families. shermantine is on death row at san quentin, herzog committed

suicide in january. gay rights activists planning a protest at chick-fil-a restaurants across the country today demonstration in the form of a kiss-in to protest the company's ceo stance against same-sex marriage. wednesday the company said it set a one day sales record as thousands stood in line for hours to show their supports for the restaurant. the ceo stirred up controversy when he publicly admitted he was against same-sex marriage. investigators trying to determine the cause of a suspicious brushfire in los gatos that threatened apartments 6:00 last night next to highway 85. the fire destroyed three cars and two storage sheds before firefighters were able to control the flames. the apartment buildings sit along the railroad tracks witnesses saw several teenagers running from the area when the fire started.

no apartments were damaged. san jose's police chief facing trouble within the department. budget cuts and sinking morale could lead to a possible no confidence vote for the chief. one board member of the police officer's association is trying to get a vote on next week's agenda. the director of communications says chief moore has a tough job to do now. >> the chief did not create budget shortfalls. the chief did not create the recession. the chief did not create the pension challenges we have over the next 5 to -- 5 to 20 years. what he has been dealt with is a shrinking budget. >> the board can decide to take the vote to the full membership or simply drop the issue. victory for south bay muslims who have been trying to build an islamic community center for six years. the center which includes a mosque, would be built on a

new movie starring actor colin ferrell opening today. and the white house regulatory chief who we learned this morning is leaving the obama administration to return to harvard law school. follow us at twitter.com/ abc7 newsbayarea. a 6-year-old stockton boy in protective custody after police found a picture of him playing with a gun in a car. police say the father used this picture as wallpaper on his iphone. police arrested the father and his brother on gun and drug charges they are calling the picture extremely disturbing. in addition to guns and drugs officers found several thousand rounds of ammunition, 10 grams of cocaine and 100 ecstasy pills in the little boy's home. national highway traffic safety administration says it is too early to decide whether it will be part of the investigation into a double decker bus that left one

person dead and 38 injured. right now local authorities are handling the accident investigation. this happened yesterday near litchfield, illinois north of st. louis. the bus was traveling from chicago to kansas city. a tire likely blew, causing the driver to lose control and slam into a concrete pillar on an overpass. 80 passengers were onboard. in two hours president obama is once again expected to urge congress to pass a middle class tax cut. he's set to make comments at 8:45 our time from the eisenhower executive office building in washington, d.c.. today's comments follow a campaign appearance yesterday in virginia a large crowd greeted the president with loud cheers. mr. obama won virginia in 2008. this year the state is up for grabs. president obama is also expected to comment this morning on the just released jobs report. >> jane king is live at the new york stock exchange. investors seem to like these

numbers. boy they do. the july employment report is helping to put a stop to a four day decline we've seen in the s&p. economy generating more jobs than what we expected. labor department says 163,000 jobs created last month we expected 100,000. even manufacturing showing signs it was the automakers that gave us the better than expected numbers. separate survey did show that with the job creation the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 8.3%, a five month high this is 45,000 more people define themselves as looking for rate. it doesn't sound good but mean people who have given up are out looking for work again. either way the markets like this number. dow trading now up 170 points or so. s&p and nasdaq strongly higher. bloomberg index up more than
