temple leaders are in communication with the -- >> they don't know the complete picture why it happened, especially in a place of worship, where we play for the well-being and harmony of all religion and our entire mankind. it is very shocking. >> alan: stay with us because abc-7 will be live at the prayer service in san jose tonight at 6:00. concord man is in jail tonight after witnesses say the struck a woman and killed her in front of several people. police say the two got into a fight around 7:00 'olast night on the steps of the martinez chamber of commerce. witnesses say the man hit the woman, then walked away from the scene. 25-year-old jason castillo of concord was arrested and booked on one million bail. police will only say the victim is a 47-year-old woman from martinez. calfire is on alert tonight after ten lightning strikes ignited fires in northern

california. they happen overnight and most of the fires were contained to less than one acre. but the dry weather and high winds helped fuel a fire that wag already burping. zero containment is being reported on the so-called chips fire. at it burning in rugged terrain 20 miles north of sacramento. the flames have consumed nearly 11 square miles and 700 firefighters are battling those flames. in the red flag warning continues in parts of northern california. leigh glaser has been tracking the conditions. >> leigh: that red-flag warning, sliver of california. most everything else moved on out of the area but you can see on live doppler 7hd, most of the activity just to the north and east of the redding area. this particular cell right now starting to move in to redding a bit and most of the activity is starting to lighten up here. here's reno and tahoe. they're clear, all of this stenning to the north and east. so the red-flag warning until 8:00 tonight for the strong

outflow winds and lightning strikes, and that will be about it. quickly, look at live doppler 7hd over the bay area. we're clear. get ready for hot temperatures this week. the forecast is coming up. >> alan: thank you, leigh. the superman ride took off today. one week after a dozen passengers were stranded during a malfunction at six flags discovery kingdom. roller coaster enthusiasts hopped on early today, and enjoyed the g-forces and spirals. but it one long before it malfunctioned again. sergio quintana is live with more. have they fixed it yet? >> reporter: well, alan, we've been watching it throughout the afternoon and seems to be running smoothly now but as you mentioned this was supposed to be the return to flight for superman, having been allline -- offline for a full week after an incident where a dozen riders were stranded 150 feet up in the air at the ride's highest point.

what should have been a triumphant return of superman turned out to be a disappointment for some customers. >> the ride is broken so we don't want to wait in line. >> i'm glad they stopped it to fix it. >> within an hour of the park opening, the superman ultimate flight coast e came to a grinding stop from an issue totally unrelated to last week's episode. >> came up here and then just stopped and broke. brakes went on and got locked down there at the base. and it couldn't get it to the home spot, so we were stuck in our seats. >> six flags personnel described the ride as cutting edge and the computer systems that run it extremely sophisticated, but clearly they continue to have issues after a dozen people got stranded for more than an hour and a half last sunday at the highest point on the ride. >> a combination of the launch speed at the time and the weight, and that stopped the ride. and highly, highly unusual event that we don't anticipate recurring. >> crews had to use a crane to get water and sun screen to

riders last sunday. and if workers were not able to get the cars to come back down, rescue teams would have used the train to bring passengers down in small groups. still, every park customer we talk to today still seemed excited to ride the supperman coaster even with the series of problems. >> if it gets stuck, hope they bring us beers or something. >> reporter: because this is such a new ride with new systems on it, the park is required to maintain this crane here on site in case there is an emergency, and the local fire department is even supposed to train on this crane into shoo there -- should there be that million and that's training last week that came in pretty handy. reporting live at six flag. abc-7. >> alan: thanks, sergio. >> it's the ultimate mission to mars that will have all of nasa holding its breath tonight. it's a matter of hours until the

a pair of tie foons caused widespread damage in seven chinese provinces. crews are responding to reports of people trapped by the water and they've rescued at least two dozen. two million people were affected this weekend by heavy rains and floods that have destroyed nearly ten thousand homes and six deaths are being blame on the stormeds. >> in oklahoma, fire crews are hoping for rain to help battle a

monster fire that continues to burp. several wildfires are burning. the largest in northeastern oklahoma has burned almost 91 square miles. at least 121 structures have been lost, many of them homes. many evacuees were allowed to return home today despite several fires burping -- burning nearby. >> i'm 82 years old. never seen nothing like it before. i've lived in this community all my life. >> alan: the cause of the fires have not been determined, although one that began friday is being investigated as a possible arson. witnesses told oklahoma county sheriff's deputies they saw a man throwing a lighted newspaper from a pickup truck. comedian roseanne barr is running for president. barr has won the presidential nomination of the peace and flee dom party. her running mate is cindy sheehan. bars barr will not appear on
