units which is the heart of the process. and there are monitors cooling things off. all necessary before any kind of inspection begins. cal osha told us the pipes must be secured. >> it's up to them to decide whether they're ready to start this investigation. a lot will have to do with the safety of the unit. we'll work with them on that. >> and we asked this expert to help us understand the investigation. >> all of the pipes, including one that leaks have layers of instulation around them to keep them from getting too hot. those have to be stripped off ask checked. >> ross believes this will take months to determine whether it started.

79. the mayor has not taken a position on that ballot measure but there are member who's oppose any expansion. >> a second suspect in the fatal shooting of a football player turned himself in this afternoon. the 27-year-old turned himself in to a probation office and he was wanted for a shooting death of a 16-year-old seen junior. he was shot in richmond on sunday night z another suspect, a 29-year-old was areved shortly after the shooting. and family members believe he was targeted for wearing red. >> san francisco got a quick and big payout related to that june fire at pier 29. aig insurance gave a $2 million check this afternoon that is a nirnl claim payment.

and there is 79 in oakland. 70s here in san francisco. at this hour these are the temperatures there is lots of 90s inland. other locations have a cool down a little bit into mid to upper 80s, highlights, will be hot inland into weekend. there are triple digits thursday through saturday. there is a cooler pattern next week this, has been the picture. a big, hot air mass blanketing the 48 states and we can report officially that july, 2012 is the hottest on record for 48 contiguous states. these are areas where temperatures for july after rinl above or well above average.
