good morning thanks for joining us i'm katie marzullo in for eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze on this august 13th, on this monday. hundreds of fires are taking advantage of the nighttime temperatures to try to gain ground on two wildfires burning north of napa in lake county one community evacuated a portion of a state highway is closed. amy hollyfield is live at the calfire station in calistoga with the latest. >> reporter: firefighters here are monitoring the situation. they tell me the progress overnight has been steady. there are about three to four hundred firefighters working on this fire. this station here in calistoga has sent two units to help. units are coming from around the state to battle this one. there are two major fires

burning, one is huge the wye fire has burned about 5,000 acres threatening spring valley, more than 800 people live there and have all been told to evacuate. the fire has destroyed one building and others are being threatened. this is about 15 miles from the town of clearlake. people there tell us they had just minutes to decide what to grab and get out. >> you could see the orange and black and everything as we were driving out we could see trees on fire you -- couldn't see anything in front of you just where the different bill lows of smoke were breathing in was kind of tough. >> reporter: the other fire being called the walker fire burned about 400 acres so far. neither fire is contained. the chp has blocked portions of highways 20 and 53 just using it for emergency

personnel-only. calfire thinks these fires started along the highway they believe that people are to blame. could have been started by a car or a human being doing something. they don't think it is arson just looking at the possibility it was accidentally started. it is a cool, still night and they are hoping to make good progress overnight on this fire. so far they tell me the progress has been steady. once we get a full progress report from the crews out there, we will bring them to you. we will be covering this throughout the morning so stay with us. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. thank you. right now let's check in with meteorologist mike nicco to hear what kind of weather the firefighters will be facing. let's zoom up to lake county and show what is going on now. places like clearlake oaks, 73°, clearlake 74, lower lake 75, winds south southwest

light from four, five, six miles per hour. afternoon going to be brutally hot. from the lower lake at 99, clearlake 101, oaks 102, winds out of the south 10 to 15 miles per hour and could gust higher through some of those valleys and near the fire that creates its own wind gusty there also does not look good for the folks up there. we want to share a stunning image that a news viewer shared. time lapsed video that gives a sense of how these fires in lake county spread. you can see the path of the smoke following the flames, incredible almost looks like a volcano erupting. the smoke from both fires appear to form one huge plume. we have viewer photos of the fire. this seen from across

clearlake. another viewer had a closer look, close to backyards. leslie took this picture of a huge cloud from her backyard in clearlake oaks. we want you to share your photos and videos. send them to ureport at. quick action by firefighters helped them get a handle on a gas fire in vallejo it broke out last night. sky 7 hd shows a thick plume as crews on the ground battled the fire no structures were damaged, no word on possible cause. if you own property in wildfire country get ready for a bill for a new fire protection fee, 850 will be getting those bills this week. the fee could run as high as $150, per property. governor brown called for the fee to help with the budget deficit. he believes homeowners who benefit from wildfire

protection, should pay for it. anti-tax groups have promised to file a lawsuit on the grounds the fee is a tax which needs a 2/3 vote. 16-year-old boy charged as dull in the shooting death of a toddler due bark in court for a hearing today. -- due back in court for a hearing today. he is charged with one count of murder and six counts after tempted murder in a gang-related gun battle in a parking lot of a liquor store last november. a bullet hit a 23 machine old while he was being held by his father. the group anonymous planning a protest against bart police tonight. anonymous says it has been one year since its weekly protests to draw attention to what it calls issues with the police force. the group calls the department unprofessional and violent. members say they will join with the occupy moment for a demonstration at 5:00 -- movement for a demonstration at 5:00 this evening.

and no ones with injured. passengers on a flight out of cite escaped injury after their plane caught fire. it happened at the sea-tac airport. flames were coming from the auxillary power unit at the end of the plane. a spokesman says the fire was caused by residual oil in the tail pipe. some san francisco fires are better trained they simulated a highrise fire, decked by command issued orders as though the building were on fire the drill sharpens skills and make sure -- and makes sure fires are physically fit. >> you have to be in shape to get up these stairs. it as minor. one civilian was hurt, that person was treated and released, also considered minor injury. the wye fire has burned 3,000 acres, 480 homes are threatened and evacuated in the community of spring valley. the walker fire is bigger than first thought. it has burned 2,000 acres. evacuees said they only had minutes to grab their belongings and get out. calfire says they think both fires started near the highway. >> the vehicle or person accidental, could be any of those causes, malfunctioning vehicle. we have no reason to believe it is anything but that. >> -- >> reporter: the chp has blocked portions of highways 20 and 53, only allowing emergency personnel through. they are not just worried about homes, they are concerned about a water treatment plant at wolf creek,

happened there, we are supposed to be 102 clear lake, 10 -- 99 in the lower lake with south wind coming in at 10 to 15 miles per hour with local gusts faster. authorities have lifted a mandatory evacuation order for homeowners near the fresno town of toll house because of a wildfire. the fire broke out saturday afternoon. crews are being helped by local fire companies, 200 homes were threatened. at last word firefighters had the blaze 80% contained. investigators state blaze was started by a discarded cigarette butt. this morning federal investigators will be in richmond at the chevron refinery. the chemical safety board has determined the fire may have been caused by a leak from a

involved in a shooting after noon yesterday someone opened fire on two people inside a car. the driver was shot several times and crashed into a tree. a passenger was also hit. one of the victims in critical condition. >> no word from police on a motive for the attack. worshippers in wisconsin held their first sunday service yesterday since a gunman shot and killed six people at their temple in bay area people came together for a candlelight vigil honoring the victims. members of the religious community from across the state gathered as a sign of unity. the vigil followed a prayer service in fremont where members of the local sikh temple participated in a national prayer. >> they are doing prayers for the people who lost their lives in wisconsin. >> fremont is home to one of the largest sikh communities
