fires burning near clear lake were very active. firefighters called in resources to help today, evacuated residents waited for news. >> this is trucks and vans. >> maggie set up camp in the parking lot of the moose lodge, evacuating five horses and five dog in 15 minutes yesterday. she says horses usually fight getting into the trailer but not this time. >> they were waiting at the gate before. and they saw the smoke or something. >> the lock parking lot became a spot for people just trying to pass through. firefighters unexpectedly shut it down this morning and conducted a burn. >> i have an appointment so i called and thank goodness got service and moved appointments to tomorrow.

>> there is a number one priority in firefighters and commanders is try to get resources in to fight the fire safely as possible. any time there are road closures there is going to be questions. >> that is amy hollyfield reporting for us, mark matthews is live with the latest. mark, what can you tell us? >> this good news is that the wind died down from yesterday. so we still have three structures burned but no more since yesterday. and the acreage here this, is the most dangerous fire, what they're worried about is that hot spots will kick up and there is pictures of the fire which was dramatic driving up

this morning but it has dropped down considerably since then because they've been able to put many rye sources on this, yesterday there are 300 firefighters, now, there are 525. there are 44 engines yesterday, up to 50 engines and more troops on the way. they're attempting to get a handle on this fire while they can. and this has been a break for firefighters and residents of clear lake oaks and also, spring valley. we're going to check on them and see how residents are making out. a bunch of them evacuated yesterday. we're going to try to report back to them tonight on abc 7 news at 5:00 and at 6:00. from near clear lake oaks abc 7 news. >> mark, thank you. we'll see you in an hour, american red cross is

accepting donations to help people affected by fires in lake county. and there is more kkt information on our web site. >> weather conditions play a major role in a fire fight taking place now. the winds died down there a bit. >> here at county lines, temperatures are 106 degrees so really hot there. look at the wind. it's light. there is relative humidity, 8%, biggest battle here is that it's hot and dry. getting single digit there, they're having to deal with that in this area. there is a lot of rugged terrain, another factor to consider. there are erratic wind conditions. there are triple digits expected into next several

left a person dead around 1:30 p.m. on charles street near old oakland road. police say a man in his 30s was sitting inside of a car and someone just shot him. they haven't determined whether the gunman escaped on foot. this is the 25th homicide of the year. >> and there is a deadly shootout at texas a&m university. police say a man opened fire while being served with an eviction notice 90 miles northwest of houston. there was one officer and another man man that died in the shootout. >> an individual within the address of the 2211 fidelity began taking fire on officers. they called in additional officers. >> and three other officers

and a woman continued to recover. classes are not in session now on the campus. the university did issue n aalert advising staff and students to avoid the area. >> 30 homes had to be evacuated this morning after a crew struck a natural gas line that was struck about 9:30 this morning. and officials say there was a two inch natural gas line it and was parked. there was an alert that went out to 200 homes. this line was sealed today and evacuation, lifted n san bruno, construction work has resumed after a contractor cut into a gas line this month at earl avenue and glenn view drive. that is where eight people died and 38 homes were destroyed nearly two years ago. this time pg&e says the gas line was clearly park marked but shaw construction, the

contractor hired by the city began digging with a back hoe instead of by hand. and that company apologized and agreed to ne oversight measures. >> there is construction for the new central subway begins next year but prep work started today meaning drivers can expect delays and neighbors will hear noise that. work continues for four months. this includes relocating utility equipment along a half block of columbus avenue and that requires lane closures. the project connects the t third line to chinatown. the tunnel extending into north beach to allow crews to retrieve a tunnel boring machine. >> still head do laws against junk food in schools help cut childhood obesity. >> skrimish over the estate of

we're following breaking news in martinez. a fire reported in a light oil processing area just after 2:00 this afternoon, classified as a level two emergency but down graded to a level one situation. that means that there is no threat to the surrounding communities. flames are part of a process called flaring that reduces pressure in that system no. one was injured. and in a statement to abc 7 news the spokesperson says the response fire crews extinguished the fire and continued to put water on the unit to cool it down. we'll keep you up to date if new developments happen there. >> a week after the fire burned for hours and forced thousands to shelter in place a probe by u.s. chemical safety board is focusing on possible pipe corrosion as the cause. sky 7 flew over the refinery today. a team of investigators are checking the tower that the fire was concentrated in. abc 7 news joins us live now

in richmond with the latest. nick? >> good afternoon. there is a team from the safety board arrived on wednesday to conduct witness interviews. a separate team made up investigators arrived and they have just entered the facility to figure out what happened and cause that fire on monday. take a look at the video a cording to investigators both chevron and united field workers have been cooperating with the investigation being conducted by the team. last week's fire fire occurred when a pipe connected to the crude unit. workers noticed the leak and in the process of repairs. the leak without warning intensified. high pressure formed a flammable cloud. and according to the csb a large number of workers were engulfed in the vapor cloud. workers that might have been killed had they not escaped as

the cloud ignited. mark ross is the current chairman of the bay area air quality management district. but br that he was a refinery manager and says the leaks are dangerous because they can trigger, and explode, without warning. >> there are intense pressures in these columns cooking crude oil. it's up to 750 degrees. very hot and pressurized. when you remove that clamp, bad things can happen. >> the cps says a november inspection led chevron to replace a pipe that failed. now, the investigation will probe why it was kept in service. for their part chevron says csb is continuing their investigation as our other agency and investigators looking into all aspects of

we do have fog near the coast. there are areas of fog pulling away just briefly to allow you to enjoy the sunshine there are thunderstorms developing and tahoe has been reporting light rain but this area has so far in three hours picked up over 300 lightning strikes there. we'll be watching for fire concerns here but so far, there have been some rain with thunderstorms, 102 in antioch, 100 in livermore, temperatures coming up today by awe fi degrees. 91 in los gatos. it's more comfortable around the coast and near the bay as you can see here. highlights, fog at the coast. dense in patches tonight. cooling this weekend. and we're looking at partly cloudy skies this weekend. cooling this week taking us into the weekend and this weekend could get interesting. here are the temperatures

ago members of the group anonymous announced they plan to shut down bart service during the evening commute. and bart responded and downtown san francisco, they called it a public safety tactic. and they did plan to make one stop along the way. they're stopping to show support for another demonstration here that is taking place in an old building where people used to go to read books. >> this is in layers of crime. this building was a library. this says so on the railing. missing letter "b" might stand for the books that no longer live here it was a good library.

cereal to find it's only half full what. are the rules for? >> you haven't had cereal before? this happens and there is a s.a lot of rules around this. there are acceptable reasons that they're allow to have had a package not completely full. first, it's to protect the contents. so times you'll see that with chips. they have extra air so they don't get beat up. and there is another correct equipment to fill if it settles after, perhaps you're cereal and then, if they need a big print area, normally, however that, would be for over the counter and that type of thing. so they're allowed to have to it protect the product.
