walk yir fires blackened about 11 square miles. >> 500 people are out of their homes after being told they had to evacuate. firefighters tell us winds are making it hard to battle flames. winds have diminished in the last few hours today. five different fire departments from the bay area have sent crews to help on the front lines and three structures have burned so far. >> there are 525 firefighters now on the lines. >> and we want to talk about the wind which has been a factor but that diminished somewhat. but big issues are humidity and heat still a problem now. >> take a look at this video this, show what's a tough job fire teams have out there. you can see they do have support helping with flame retardant on the lines there. >> there is sandhya patel.

am i right that the wind died down there sf. >> let's start with conditions there. this is the county line, firefighters battling temperatures at 1 owe 5 degrees, winds at five miles per hour. humidity is 9%. so it's hot, it's dry. and the winds are light at the surface where the fire is burning but here is what i want to explain. when you have large fires like that, they create their own weather conditions and heat causes air to rise and there is cooler air moving in from the ocean and that basically creates winds and this is something else they have to battle. i'll be back with a local look at the forecast in just a few minutes. >> and sandhya, thank you very much. these are live pictures

you're looking at flames burning here in lake county. there are two fires burning. walker fire and... >> the y fire. so far about 11 squire miles have burned last night z about 500 people have been forced to evacuate their homes because the flames spread fairly addressively. >> that is about 5,000 acres and mark matthews is on the scene. we're having difficulties but hope to bring you his story in just a moment. >> stay with us. we're going to move on to other things for the time being. we're all over this fire for you. a year ago bart pulled the plug on signals that a rowdy band of demonstrators were using and they're stainling a march right now from the station to guard headquarters near lake merit. and jonathan bloom is with them. >> you can hear me okay.

we're here at the station where that march is beginning. you can see marchers just went by. this is a small crowd, about 20 or 30 people that left to commemorate the shut off in a san francisco bart station. and they're marching from here to oakland head quarters to let bart know they haven't forgoten what they see as a to it free speech. bart trying to disswayed those protestors from organizing. a long the way, marchers say they plan to stop off in a vacant building that people used to go to read books. >> in barbed wire, only those

and we haven't seen a copy yet but the city told us it's coming. it's not going come in time for poetry readings they have scheduled for 7:00 which is going around the time the anonymous supporters will arrive there along their march. >> some silicon valley employees will be laid off as part of a job to cut jobs at motorola mob yibt. -- mobility. google tells abc 7 news approximately 160 people will be laid off in sunnyvale. after today's announcement, the stock rose nearly 3%. and workers who lost their jobs in solyndra learned they're getting a break. the company defaultd on a huge energy loan but noe now agreed to a settlement for the workers it fired.

abc 7 news is outside of the empty plants with more on this for us. >> they agreed to pay workers $3.5 million to makeup for a sudden, mass layoff last year and where is it going to get the money? if assets are tied up in court and this plant is financed by a grant that is a visible white elephant. law says a company laying off 50 or more employees must give 60 days notice. it was a shock when a thousand workers were let go one morning just days before the company filed for bankruptcy. peter, a four year employee will be one of 1,000 to share in the settlement. >> i'm happy for the employees that have closure he was an

engineer at solyndra, suing next day, complaining top level executives were given bonuses to stay on and he and his co-workers got nothing. >> have something in place. you don't just drop people that made your company. have something in place that okay, we put in hard work. make sure they're not just dropped. >> it's not certain how many they will see. their attorney in nork says $3.5 million will be divided up to a formula tied to pay level. this attorney notes others will be first in line in bankruptcy court. >> secured creditors come first, employee wages after that. and somewhere in this mix is judgments and negotiated resolution. >> the head of the counsel

investigators are on the scene. they've identified what may have gone wrong. and there is nick smith latest with the story. >> it's simple as a chemical heating that caused an explosion. >> leaks are very dangerous because they can just trigger like that. >> that, say investigators is what happened. early findings the report reveal a large number of workers were engulfed in the vapor cloud. workers might have been killed or injuried had they not escaped. >> why was there a loss of containment? >> workers noticed this leak when the leak intensified sparking a fire and a trail of smoke. and mark ross is the current chairman of the air quality management district.

we'll begin with our top story again, cal fire treating two fires burning in lake county charged 5,000 acres and just about 25% contained burning only a few miles part on east end of clear lake in lake county. abc 7 news is live on the scene for us and mark this is been tough for people living in the area. >> it is. we're at the y fire. there is walker fire and y fire. this has been the worst fire in terms of damage to ho.s behind me, you can see first house burned in this fire was yesterday afternoon. it's by no means the only one. roger's home just down the road from here lost a cabin and his livelihood.
