a robot to check out a canister there. we showed you this scene at 4:00 today. >> a neighbor called police after seeing something that didn't look quite right. maybe a soda bottle wrapped in foil. and there is no word from police on what they're checking out. >> police told people in other homes to stay inside while figuring this out. and stay with us. a hot police pursuit came to a violent end when a driver of a car lost control. and it was taken into custody in the m middle of a freeway. several cars hit by the driver who was shot with a taser. we are live with the story. >> this taser was used and police had guns pointed at the suspect. you can imaginin that

happening behind me. police have confirmed and the suspect was driving a stolen car. tasered by oakland pd, the suspect was handcuffed and police had guns pointed at the man. the car he was driving overturned and several lanes were closed creating a back up that went into san lor yenzo. police say they tried to stop the driver near haggen burger road because they expected there was a stolen carment it happened after officers tried to pull the car over when the driver sped away. during this chase, several cars were hit, including this one boind a union city family with a child in the seat. the young boy was in a car seat and not hurt. they were on the way to six flags discovery kingdom. >> there is a baby sleeping next to me. and when trning back, the

glass was shattered. >> i think he's coming very fast. he hit us and a van. and a truck. >> what did it feel like to be hit? >> this is a big bump. i am assuming i'm fine. >> no one suffered injuries but the suspect was put inside of an ambulance and sent to the hospital and will be taken, later, to jail. and there the suspect was taken to the hospital because it's a stan yard practice to do so after a taser is used on someone. >> and state job safety investigators looking into the choking of an employee at napa state hospital. just a day before, employees warned about the potential for just such an attack. it's been a story we've been following all week and today, abc 7 news talked with the hospital executive director.

>> and on tuesday they issued new alarm triggers for people when work there. some were worried about wearing those' larms and tell you don't wear anything around the neck that could be used to choke you. tuesday when new alarms were actry ti vait there'd was this response to concerns about wearing alarms on lanyards around their necks. >> we think that likelihood of something happening is small. >> the deputy director was wrong. it took one day before an employee was punched in the case fais by patient et who grabbed the lanyard from behind, choking the therapist. >> he's fun and released from the emergency room that evening. >> the executive director says

investigators interviewed witnesses today and the psych tech told me he would rather not put that around his neck. >> and i'm helping to get another option. >> there is an option on a belt clip and after wednesday's attack the hospital ordered more clips so employees can have a choice. but the clips won't be in for 10 days and they're telling employees wear your lanyard, around your neck. >> i think that it's at this point acceptable to say to staff wear the lanyard as issued in the fashion it is designed to work. we're evaluating how to do that. >> they would not say it's a bad idea she isn't taking action against employees who refuse to wear them we're into the sending them home and not disciplining them, they're just being reminded the how

now live to southern california in san bernardino county there is massive flooding because of fast moving thunderstorms that dumped rain on this area. >> there are no structures damageds live pictures from the community of forest falls near viblgtorville. the sheriff's department says evacuations have not been ordered and they're monitoring this flood. >> there is a mother in fair condition in a hospital in fresno. teams continue to search for her 6-year-old son missing in yosemite national park. jacob adams and his 10-year-old brother, andrew were swept away in the merced

river. andrew dry dye asked l is a follow up on the search for jacob. >> our cameras thought visitors crossing a fast moving section of the merced river days after two little boys were swept away near the vernal fails bridge. other hikers say scenes like this are common. >> they say the water and they're hot. they don't realize the danger with the current. >> rangers say that was the face on wednesday. a 6-year-old and his 10-year-old brother waded foo the river and were pulled downstream. their mother was hurt trying to save them. a visitor managed to pull the 10-year-old from the water and he died at the scene. teams are still looking for jacob. >> not only searching riverbank buzz going into the river, diving and looking into some of the bigger pools to see if there are signs of him there and gegt on large boulders in the middle of the river bed allowing them to see into the river in places where

heard. they packed a courtroom in san jose today and found two years complaining to authorities they were being ripped off by a group paid into in order to get death benefits. last week authorities arrested this man. and he is charged with seven counts of fraud and embezzlement. there is a stephanie knee lee accused of stealing $200,000 of the money members paid to the group. loved one as tended the hearing. >> they've lost their money despite the fact they put their trust into this committee to have money for funeral expenses. >> sad for her and her friends. there are thousands of people part of the program that are

show. how is that for a tease? if i told you i'd have to kill you. there are people. most heartening thing is that when people say they love to come on the show and they're not kind of taking a wait and see attitude, well, i don't know. you know? is this going to work? and is she going to be good? i will remember the people who say yes, count us in, we're there. hopefully as the show goes on and people like it and see people feel comfortable being on it we'll get more people coming by. >> this seems like a perfect melding of talents. >> i think that i do feel comfortable on tv. a nicest compliment is that i'm the same person on camera as off camera. this is an opportunity to use the skill set i think i've honed in the
