>> ama: they set sail the paddle boat to retrieve a football from the bay. >> family and friendses are remembering a los altos hill marine who was killed in afghanistan. matthew ma -- was shot and killed during combat operations. we're live in mountain view. >> this memorial service continues here at st. francis oomph it's been going now for three hours. it should include a full honor guard service, which should include as well a military aircraft flyover. this is where matthew graduated from high school in 2001 and then went on to join the ma screens his latest assignment as a marine captain was training afghani soldiers. hundreds 0 of people packed into the auditorium. i was allowed to watch some of the ceremony.

a marine general talk about the kind of work the captain was doing. he had served four tours, two in iraq, two in afghanistan, but his youngest brother, marty, provided some of the more touching and lighter moments, the humorous recollections of his older brother. we talked to his father, shortly after this son was killed this month. he said it was at the hands of someone his son thought was an afghan y security first member. the afghan asked for a meeting and then opened fire, killing him and two other marines as they ate dinner now. the captain is a decorated marine and it is likely a lot of people are her to show support for him and his family as well. he is the son of a santa clara judge and a state appellate court justice. there are several hundred people here and it's been going for three hours.

>> ama: now to the developing story we first brought you at 5:00. an arrest has been made in a bizarre hit and run in santa rosa, police say a man chased and then intentionally ran over a cyclist. now, we should have a photo of the there's the vote of the victim for you. nick smith is live with the latest developments in the story. nick? >> reporter: the victim in all of this tells me that police worked really hard to solve this case. they took him seriously from the start and he is extremely grateful for that. today police made an arrest of an 81-year-old man they say he is responsible for a violent hit and run that left a man seriously injured. >> i was scared for my life. >> reporter: gerard is happy to be alive. >> he could have continued and run right over me if he had chosen to do so. >> reporter: this shows his wrist with a knew titanium plate. one of several injuries suffered

after being intentionally run down, chased on to a golf course and struck from behind. on wednesday he was riding on highway 12 like he had done so many times before. >> reached a critical point of frustration between motorists and cyclists and almost like an epidemic level. >> reporter: police say in the past two years there has been an increase in the number of cyclist of the smoke county roadways. since may five civilists have been killed. investigators are note to say there is an increase begins assaults on riders but they say the victim was targeted. >> people don't see you as human. >> then tied an arrest was made. a witness who had been the victim of similar burst of road rage bay man fitting the same description has the man who hit this victim was identified. his professional carbon fiber bike is ruined. it will cost him thousands to repair it. he has injuries that will take weeks to heal but he isn't angry. >> it's going to be weird when

the day comes i'm able to ride, if i'm going to get on the road bike or just stay in the park. >> reporter: police are convinced the have their man. they have identified damage to the suspect's car and debris attached to the undercarriage that is toint to where the victim was struck. >> ama: right now san francisco police are looking for whoever shot a man found on a muni bus. the bus was at third street and gillman avenue in the bay view district when the victim was found. police aren't sure if the man was shot on the bus or had already been wound ud when he boarded. the victim is in the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. police released the photograph of man arrest for a fire near palo alto. play say the man intentionally set last week's fire at the preserve. he has been detained on the day of the fire but was released until they could get more information. he is being charged with five counts of felony arson.

>> a violent high risk sex offender is back in kurt. derrick sanders was found panhandling in san francisco's fisherman's wharf. he was being held in a lock unit at the mental health facility. cal osha is not commenting after the agency's lead investigator into the chevron refinery fire openly criticized federal investigators on the case. on his personal facebook page he accused them of bias, media grand standing and misleading the public. most of the comments have been removed. cal osha and the safety board are preebb serving the accident site until investigations continue. an oakland elementary school slated for closure this year is instead surviving as a charter academy. the charter academy held an open house. school officials promised a rig louse and challenging curriculum, using
