oakland pd. the new system had problems since it was installed. during president obama's visit to the fox theater last month, many of the 100 officers assigned to protect him and had protesters near the theater reported problems with the radio system. >> the 850 megahertz ban close to at&t their system is bleeding over to our sites. >> i'm having harder time finding places with where i can talk to people and the same thing apparently happening with these. >> reporter: oakland is saying 16 cell phone towers shutdown, at&t says it has not shutdown any cell sites only temporarily suspended operating 2g limited, 3 and 4g

not impacted. oakland looking at cell phone sites not only in the city but emeryville and berkeley seeing if there is any problems there. this situation is still under investigation. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. police in santa rosa blame a blown circuit board for a power outage that knocked out the department's phones, radios and dispatch system around 9:15 yesterday morning. 911 calls were forwarded to the sheriff's department. police switched to the sheriff's radio frequency. closing arguments set to begin today in san jose in a patent trial between apple and samsung. for the past three weeks both companies have tried to paint the other as the bad guy. appear pell accused samsung is of -- apple accused samsung of pirating technology. samsung says it is part of an

evolution in technology. the jury's verdict could bring a multi-billion dollar penalty. bail that would keep your boss from asking for your password to sites like twitter and facebook has cleared a key hurdle. california senate passed the measure 37-0 yesterday in a vote the sponsor introduced the bill based on complaints that employers were asking for employee passwords so bosses could check their pages for answers to questions they couldn't ask legally. the bill now goes back to the assembly for a vote on minor changes. a bill to let prisoners appeal life without parole sentences is heading to the governor's desk. the bill would apply to prisoners who committed crimes as juveniles but did not torture anyone or kill a police officer. three hunt could be eligible to ask the court to change their sentence to include the possibility for parole. governor brown has not taken a

public position. a slaughter house in the central valley shutdown after agents received video showing cows shot and shocked with electricity. animal rights group sent the video to the agriculture department this is a major slaughterhouse south of fresno. company officials say they have not seen the video and don't know who took. san francisco board of supervisors is expected to decide as early as next month whether suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi will lose or keep his job. mayor lee says he's hopeful the supervisors will follow the lead of the ethics commission. lee says the commission reached the right decision last week when it phone mirkarimi engaged in official misconduct. mirkarimi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor false imprisonment in connection to an argument with his with wife where he grabbed her arm hard enough to bruise it. mirkarimi's while eliana lopez

san rafael southbound on the right moving nicely out of novato. northbound very light as well. as you head northbound through novato past atherton avenue still following this fatal accident block being the right lane i wanted to show you this live shot even though this crash is out there blocking a lane not causing delays at this point through novato and also as you head into petaluma. in san francisco north 101 at cesar chavez earlier crash took out the san barrels, rhp and caltrans at the scene they are trying to clear the sand and get the barrels out of way. at this point doesn't look like any lanes are blocked just activity as you head towards downtown san francisco. if you are heading there via the bay bridge, no delays right now. yesterday things picked up, a lot of folks back-to-school, work, here's a live shot of the san mateo bridge still flowing well in both

alameda's world war ii aircraft carrier the uss hornet is getting a new anchor. the anchor belonged to a sister ship moving it is not easy it weighs 30,000 pounds, chain has 25 links that weigh 127 pounds each. workers used a crane to lift the anchor on to a flatbed once aboard the hornet it will be refurbished and then become part of the museum. a man from mountain view has done what no other blood donor has done until now. meet david mitch mitchell, he made his 6 -- his 600th donation to the blood bank. he donates two dozen times per year whole blood honors can only give five or six times per year.

south of florida swimmer diana night wad has -- diana nyad has been pulled from the water. today is the fifth day of her attempt to make the 103 mile crossing. she had hoped to reach key west, florida by wednesday. she was slowed by a storm yesterday, less than 60 miles from her goal, she has suffered from jellyfish stings. no word on why she was pulled out of the water this morning. she has tried several times before. today another unsuccessful attempt. gang violence continues to take a big toll in san jose where police are investigating two more shootings, one fatal. last night police were called to a shooting scene in east san jose this one took the life of a 24-year-old man who died at a hospital. less than an hour later, police were called two miles

away they found a 20-year-old man shot there, he is expected to survive. police say the homicide appears to be gang-related. they are not sure whether there's a connection to the second shooting of the night. six people murdered in san jose in the past seven days. federal investigators keeping an eye on chevron's if he rib as hydrocarbons continue to leak. you can -- as hydrocarbon the chemical safety board and cal-osha won't be able to examine the pipe until the leak is capped. >> priority now is to safely isolate that leak cut off the flow of hydrocarbons and move forward with the scientific investigation. >> investigators reveal the series of photos showing a white vapor cloud released before the fire ignited sending up a column of black smoke they were find by a

the ponderosa fire double the size of the clearlake fire. santa rosa's city council expected to approve a concession agreement for the new 49er stadium. the contract is with the same company that operates stands at candlestick and at&t parks. they will hire 1600 people to work a tip nfl game. the 68,000 seat stadium is expected to open in 2014. >> >> petaluma national little league team is still in the running at the little league world series in pennsylvania. yesterday, they pulled out a -- pulled off i should say, a walk-off win in extra innings. espn highlights, bottom 8th danny was just looking to make good contact with the ball and he scored the game winning homerun to beat new jersey 5-4. hometown fans watching went wild. the celebration ends and the nail-biting resumes today as petaluma faces connecticut in

new morning a bill requiring overtime pay for california farm work on its way to the governor's desk. the senate proved a bill requested by the union supported on senate for yesterday by buenos aires democrat senator. the bill would pay overtime to workers on-the-job more than eight hours a day or 40 hours in a week. right now they are only required to be paid overtime after 10 hour day or 60 hour week. senate republicans argue the measure would hurt farm workers by forcing growers to switch to harvest machinery or cut shifts to make ends meet. if you follow cal sports this is a big story. uc berkeley athletics program has 10 million dollars more thanks to a donation from two bay area philanthropists. the university says the plaza at the stadium will be named

for lisa and douglas goldman of san francisco this is not their first generous donation they donated a million dollars to help save university baseball programs last year the project includes new seating, and our amenities. the bears reopen memorial stadium september 1st. san francisco and bmw trying to make parking less challenging partnering to push a new app aimed at helping drivers find and reserve open spaces at designated lots it is called park now. drivers can reserve space online or mobile phone and present a code at the garage to claim their space. bmw is in-- unveiling new car sharing program in the city. >> having less vehicles and car sharing is part of that and parking solutions all a neat package coming from 100% private industry. >> the drive now program will
