new gluten free apple cinnamon chex. captioned by closed captioning services, inc. good morning thanks for joining us i'm carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick first look at our weather. nice and sunny behind you interesting pattern this morning sunshine in marin county and san francisco and oakland but cloudy in parts of the east bay look at the wind west 23 miles an hour at the airport delays of 57 minutes there. the pattern today will be for more sun not going to work to warm temperatures. we are going to be a few degrees cooler than yesterday. we are cool now in the 50s. later today low 60s in the city across the bay. plenty of 70s later clearing in parts of our east bay

inland close to the upper 70s, very fall-like day. today the coolest day of the week. topping our news the petaluma little leaguers are concluding their amazing season. right now they are in the middle of their consolation game against panama in pennsylvania. that's where wayne freedman is watching, joining us live. what is the score now? >> reporter: they just scored again now 7-2, petaluma that. whole phrase consolation game, espn calls it the consolation game, and little league baseball out of a movie there's no consolation in baseball. these guys played a heck of a game yesterday this is for third place in the world. i think it is probably worth a look back to see how they got to this place and moment in time. for most 12-year-olds the concept of single elimination

if this wind the greatest little league game ever played it may have been the most epic with the greatest comeback, two outs and two strikes, he brought them within one run with this swing. >> [ inaudible ] >> you will never forget it? >> no. that's my biggest homer. >> reporter: next batter smith, two outs, two strikes one swing, tied game. >> bats woke up and everybody started hitting. >> reporter: this is hill league, the southeast scored nine runs and put the game away not that anyone could tell from how parents greeted their kids. >> that was so much fun to watch. >> he left as a boy now he's a young man. >> reporter: all of them. petaluma fell within game short of playing for a world championship that hurts for now but long term these kids will remember the love.

the game at this point they are all winners he, just getting to this level. he had a record of 25-3 to get here. they are a very sought after bunch as players because they've been under pressure. all but one are scheduled to go to petaluma high and they intend to stay together so you may hear from this team again in a few years. >> thanks. family and friends who were unable to make the trip to pennsylvania have been cheering the team on from a theater in petaluma. i'm sure those boys can feel the hometown spirit from miles away. sergio quintana is live there to show us petaluma pride. >> reporter: some of the most die-hard hometown fans are here in this theater right now in petaluma. there are probably 20 people in this theater watching this current game. this place was nearly bursting at the seams yesterday for the

incredible comeback they made in the last inning against tennessee. the push the team made is becoming legendary, 10 runs in the lastning to tie-up the game giving them a good chance at becoming the national champions. as they pushed hard this downtown theater exploded with cheers in support of course in the end in an extra 7th inning players from tennessee made a run of their own against the nationals and petaluma could not recover. still, for those watch from home, yesterday was a game no one is soon going to forget. >> was unbelievable. i've seen grown men cry yesterday after that comeback. brandis hits a two run shot, then another one against that team, pandemonium. >> reporter: of course, this game is on now and as we were watching there's some continuing progress by this

team by petaluma of course the last check was 8 over the panama team just went into break people are going to try to get refreshments to continue watching. as wayne mentioned, the team is going to be returning to town and next week there is a huge party that is planned for these hometown players. they are going to be paraded through downtown petaluma they are going to be received as heroes. it does not matter they did not win yesterday we are -- they are going to be playing for third place for everyone here they are champions. i'm sergio quintana, abc7 news. of course we'll be at that parade and we'll bring you a live report from wayne later in the newscast as we keep you updated about how the all stars are doing. now to tropical storm isaac, getting closer to the u.s. right now nearing florida after passing over cuba and

flooding haiti where at least four deaths have been reported. the storm is predicted to strengthen into a hurricane by the time it hits the florida coast later today. meteorologist ginger zee has the latest. >> reporter: the sunshine state is on high alert. the governor issued a state of emergency. >> don't think it is going to be that serious just to be on the safe side. >> reporter: schools all over south florida already cancelled for monday. >> best thing you can do is plan for the worst, definitely. >> reporter: in tampa, at least four to eight inches of rain expected. 50,000 people arriving this weekend for the republican national convention. the governor pulling out for storm prep. storm surge in parts of the state could rise as high as self develop feet. >> we are all in this together we told them to use our sand and sand bags. >> reporter: in the panhandle where they could see 100

his family is asking us to wink at the moon tonight as we remember kneel armstrong. he died this weekend at 82 from complications following heart surgery. he with was hailed as a hero in 19679. as reporter tomas roman shows, armstrong always described himself as a nerdy engineer. >> one small step for man. one giant leap for man kind. >> reporter: with those words astronaut neil armstrong became the first person to step on the moon a symbol of

man kind's desire to reach for the stars. apollo astronaut remembers him as someone who didn't seem comfortable with the celebrity from his accomplishment. >> ne , i think by nature was -- neil, i think by nature was modest, self-effacing, bright when you're in a class with him or learning something, neil was right there, very sharp guy. >> reporter: in 19679 armstrong and buzz aldrin spent three hours what walking the moon collecting sample, planting the american flag and conducting experiments the most watched television broadcast at the time. they accomplished what president kennedy promised. he says being part of the team with those men was taking part of and making history. >> this is -- [ inaudible ] this is history being made and we were very, very aware of it. >> reporter: this is the apollo 11 capsule on hornet

west wind right now that is allowing for the airport delays to stack up. we are looking at low clouds some low clouds there airport delays 57 minutes. live doppler 7 hd and we are looking at the clouds mainly south of us around san jose also in concord beginning to clear in livermore going to burn back to the coastline today. up-to-date on what is going on with tropical storm isaac. continues to bring pretty good rain through florida and fort meyers. winds now 65 miles an hour moving to the west-northwest at eight team, hurricane would be 74 miles an hour, should become a hurricane tonight then the track moves further west into the gulf of mexico where it is nice and warm, the energy source that should strengthen to a category 2 look where headed, looks like new orleans by wednesday. right now we have heavy rain we've had about six inches in parts of miami you can see all

the way up to the central coast and through tampa the rain bands right now. it is gonna be an interesting time of it with the storm surge and the heavy rain. we'll continue to keep you posted throughout the next several days. overnight tonight looks like more strengthening and higher storm surge tomorrow, 60 concord now mountain view 60, plenty clouds up towards napa, santa rosa, cloudy around san jose at 60°, 57 half moon bay. we will be looking at this area of low pressure today to bring the cool air, continue with the cool air it really has disrupted the marine layer in some spots that's why we are sunnier in the city and oakland and even parts of marin. as this continues to track east it is providing gusty winds and really dry conditions here for the sierra nevada. we are talking about red flag warning continuing today with 20 to 35 mile an hour winds this is northwestern nevada

been campaigning for president everyday for over a year almost five years if you count his last run in the rough-and-tumble grind on the trail sometimes the message gets lost. as republicans gather for the convention in tampa romney has the spotlight all to himself. >> convention is an opportunity when americans are just starting to really tune in to the campaign for mitt romney to sort of re-introduce himself to the public and highlight his background and vision for the future of the country. >> reporter: that vision boils down to the main message that romney tried to hammer home, president obama has failed to fix the economy. romney has the tools and blueprint to get the job done. political conventions are choreographed, scripted to the minute. list of speakers gives the party a chance to highlight up and coming stars like new jersey governor chris tee and florida senator marco rubio. ultimately it is about the candidate.

-- incest and rape is way beyond the mainstream. >> republicans won't have a lot of time to discuss their platform as we said hurricane warnings forced their agenda to compressed to three days. officials in new york city say the two police officers involved in that shootout near the empire state building had never fired their weapons on duty before. ballistics shows all nine bystanders wounded in friday's incident were shot by the officers. investigators state two opened fire on a gunman who had just killed a co-worker around the corner from the empire state building. the gunman was killed, three of the wounded bystanders were hit with bullets, the rest by fragments even though chevron has closed its claim centers, claims can still be filed over the phone. chevron says it will continue to maintain its toll free number after processing 18,000 claims from people who have

california state university will launch an online university next year that could expand enrollment by a quarter million. cal-state's 23 campuses have a total enrollment now of 427,000. 50 courses are offered online through individual universities. this new system will provide one common website for all courses and any new ones the university plans to offer. the vendor providing the web service will be new jersey-based educational software maker which plans to begin testing soon. you know video games have

flame-haired prince. annual walk to raise money to help low income breast cancer survivors was a huge success yesterday at lake merritt, the 8th annual breast cancer challenged. i'm a founding member of the organization which was created 15 years ago and named after bay area broadcaster faith, she lost her battle with breast cancer in 2003. the money will provide grants to local grassroots organizations that help low income, uninsureed and underinsured women and men with the disease who live in the bay area. the weather yesterday was great, much better i guess than today. yes, well in some spots we have the sunshine today but the cool air filtering in cooler air than yesterday. we have got a mixed bag now in terms of the cloud cover, from this shot our sutro camera, we have sunshine, breezy, airport

normally we should see 84 in santa rosa, upper 80s concord, livermore and that is anywhere from 9 to 14° cooler than average for today. coming up quickly, tomorrow a couple things are happening, this cold front has mixed out the maroon layer, today sunshine cooler -- marine layer, today sunshine cooler air continues to filter in today and tonight going to wash out that marine layer, sunnier, wind shift and warmer tomorrow. today, little blustery, with a west wind up to 20 knots, temperatures in the 50s for the america's cup. tonight if you are headed to the giants' game, late afternoon, upper 50s, with the fog and then dropping through the mid 50s. a chilly night tonight for the ballgame. we will be looking at some mild weather inland. still a little grey, but 75 expected high in concord today,

so they know that they've created a stir but they've been inside this universe of their own creation this bubble that kind of burst last night, but not really, considering all they've been through. do they know? no, they don't know. they are going to be blown away when they get home and yeah it's special. i'm a cynical guy, cover a lot of news. >> we know. >> reporter: roll your eyes a lot on what you see you know carolyn, this may be -- this is hard to say, this may be the single boast sporting event in all of america. better than anything. free to come here and stand and watch the ballgame, pick your own spot those bleachers in that stadium back there, one of several, those seats are free to people in little league baseball who were chosen to come here. hot dogs are $2, a coke is a couple dollars.

say so long to the hurricane rollercoaster we have a live picture of the rollercoaster where members of the american rollercoaster enthusiast club plan to take within last ride today on the hurricane which is set to shutdown for good next week. the hurricane has been sold and will be dismantled to move to new mexico after labor day. the ride will -- a new ride will take its place next year. hurricane has been on the boardwalk since it replaced the jet star coaster in 1992. good day to ride a rollercoaster lisa? yeah, i see the skies are clearing a little there. back home, a summer spread which going to feel like fall with upper 50s even the coast today, oakland should warm
