good morning i'm katie marzullo in for kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. richmond and contra costa county plan to share what they've dug up in their investigation into the huge chevron refinery fire. they called a news conference for 10:00 this morning. amy hollyfield is live with a preview. >> reporter: chevron has received more than 18,000 claims so far. today the company plans to bring a number of agencies together to brief people on how the investigation is going so far. people informed themselves saturday, they went to a seminar about learning your rights put together by some

attorneys. one attorney says more than 3,000 have signed up to seek legal action against chevron. plaintiffs' attorneys say they believe the fire at the refinery was preventable. some community leaders have questioned whether chevron has done all it could the fire -- it could since the fire. although there does seem to be plenty of interest in suing chevron, there are some who are skeptical. >> it took eight years for the '92 fire to get $100. they took all that money and one guy bought an island they said. they get paid and we get played. >> reporter: chevron did announce it will compensate people for any injuries. there are attorneys and community leaders, warning people and saying they need to demand more. today's meeting is set to be one in a series of regularly

convention there. we are going to watch new orleans probably tomorrow night into wednesday morning. we'll keep an eye on that our forecast in a minute. sunnyvale police continue to hunt for two robbers who shot a jewelry store worker last night around 5:00. police say the two thieves appeared to be in their 20s they drove away in a large suv the victim was rushed to a trauma center. five jewelry stores have been robbed in the bay area during the past few weeks. another vie hrefpbts weekend in oakland, 10 shootings, they victims children under 14. saturday night at 9:34 teen-year-old boy was shot along 85th avenue. police are still looking for whoever opened fire. there's no word on motive. the boy's grandmother says he was shot in the head and is in critical condition at children's hospital.

government helicopter over your home starting today. homeland security officials say not to worry it is part of a plan to improve safety and fight terrorism this twin engine helicopter belongs to the national nuclear security administration. it will be taking measurements of the natural radiation levels from the ground. information the government hopes will help pinpoint a dirty bomb or nuclear weapon in the future. the helicopter will be flying in a grid pattern over san francisco, pacifica and oakland over the next six days. >> they need to know what the average background radiation is if they came back a machine or a year later and they saw something higher they will be able to tell there was something new there. >> uc berkeley engineering professor norman says the measurements are harmless, they are looking for natural background always there and nothing being emitted. >> the average price for a gallon of gas jumped seven cents over the past two weeks. a gallon of regular nationwide
