last night showing rain in miami south beach, concerns are growing that isaac could cause problems along the gulf coast. this morning the national hurricane center tells abc7 news that isaac will grow to a cat 1 and make landfall late tomorrow. forcasters earlier predicted a cat 2. it could come ashore between new orleans and the edge of the florida panhandle as a result, voluntary evacuation orders are in place, in parts of louisiana and the state of emergency in effect in mississippi. of course we have our own forecast here we'll check in with mike. good morning. here's theç+wjh latest live dopr 7 hd imagery over the last three hours you can see an eye wall developing. heavier rains just pulled through tampa are moving away more storms on the way. we are looking at a tropical storm as katie and eric mentioned winds 65 miles per hour moving west-northwest 14 miles per hour, 360 miles from

the mouth of the mississippi to the east of new orleans. probably midnight tomorrow it is going to come ashore as a cat 1 with a surge of about four to five feet, which is devastating for the westlands around louisiana. as it moves into mississippi it has potentialal to dump 10 to 20 inches of rain. flooding in-- inland flooding going to be more of a . more in a minute on our forecast. -- this wednesday is the 7th anniversary of hurricane katrina making landfall on the gulf coast. seven years later parts of louisiana are once again under an evacuation order with >> we are calling on folks who live in low-lying areas in the 15 parishes in the hurricane watch area of louisiana to start voluntary evacuations today. >> louisiana governor jindal is scheduled to speak at the republican national convention in tampa tomorrow.

jindal says he will not leave his state, as long as isaac remains a threat. impending arrival of isaac leading to a run ons go in the gulf coast. long lines could be seen across the gulf coast over the weekend, including this station in st. charles parish, louisiana. the storm is already affecting production. london-based bp evacuating workers from its platforms. analysts say prices could spike before the start of the upcoming holiday weekend. first day of the republican national convention is cancelled because of isaac. delegates started arriving over the weekend and some took part in welcome event last night. the convention will convene today, all business recessed until tomorrow. eye rick is -- isaac is not expected to make a direct hit on tampa, but organizers decided to cancel today because some could have trouble getting to the convention due to strong rain and wind. >> mitt romney starting his day in new hampshire, he spent

device after noon yesterday, police found a 20 2-year-old victim shot in the head he was taken to medical center where he was pronounced dead. police won't say where the shooting happened. fatal plane crash in nevada the victims may be from fresno the plane crashed saturday night after takeoff from tahoe airport registered to the other than of a trucking company in fresno. an employee told a reporter the owner, his wife, daughter and two friends were flying to tahoe the ntsb is investigating. the ntsb is set to hold a meeting today to determine the probable cause of last year's deadly air race in reno. september 16th, the aircraft crashed into the spectator box seating area during the races the crash killed pilot and 10 people on the ground. 60 others were injured. organizers of the reno races

good morning everyone it is monday the 27th, day of august starting out with cloudy skies as you can see from this picture from outside. thanks for starting your day with you us i'm eric thomas. i'm katie marzullo in for kristen sze. we start with our developing news. tropical storm isaac, you are looking at video we have now from miami this morning as you can see some clouds and rain, but for the most part, south florida is being spared the worst this morning. within the last 90 minutes we learned forcasters are predicting isaac is only expected to grow to a hurricane 1, category 1 hurricane earlier predictions called for a cat 2. isaac is expected to make landfall sometime tomorrow, expected to happen between

louisiana and the florida panhandle. >> mike, as we know even a cat 1 when it is heading towards new orleans can cause major problems. >> yeah it has its own issues new orleans because it is below sea level and the marshy area around it could get flooded. my biggest concern is once it makes landfall as a cat 1 how much rain is it going to drop? 10 to ten tip -- 10 to ten continues possible. eye wall was west of florida moving from florida general trend will take it towards new orleans where most of the models are kind of coming together with around south of new orleans there. 65 mile per hour winds as it comes ashore, midnight tomorrow as a category 1. with isaac moving closer to louisiana, some voluntary

thousands complaining of health problems. >> reporter: chevron has a lot to answer to. the company has received 18,000 claims from residents. today the company will take this opportunity to pull together a number of different agencies to answer questions and update people on how the investigation is going. the residents got information over the weekend at a seminar put together by some attorneys. one attorney says more than 3,000 have signed up to seek legal action against chevron. plaintiffs' attorneys say they believe the fire this month was preventable. some community leaders have questioned whether chevron has done all it could since the fire that tore through the number 4 unit. although there does seem to be plenty of interest in suing chevron, there are some who are skeptical. >> it took us eight years in the '92 fire to get $100. they took all that money, and one guy bought an island they said.
