production, 346 gas and oil platforms have been evacuated and are responsible for three quarters of the oil production. we'll take you tloif new orleans later in this newscast. >> and right now, spencer christian is here and tracking isaac cloisly. >> here is a look at radar image and projected path. the storm is a tropical storm, winds 70 miles per hour close to being a category one hurricane. and this is moving away from the west coast of florida now towards central gulf of mexico and its expected to intensify and reach hurricane force by tomorrow, here is a projected path moving towards northwest and this is expected to soon after that, make land fall near new orleans. so all along this broad path of the gulf coast here from mississippi to louisiana the

emergency preparedness officials and local residents are taking precautions. the storm expected to move inland after making land fall late tomorrow or early wednesday z will be a major storm. it will weaken to a tropical storm later to just an intense low pressure system. still a major storm that could produce wide spread flooding and damage. we'll keep tracking the storm for you and update you as this moves along. >> thank you very much. and the timing of the storm is unfortunate for the republican party. the g.o.p. national convention convened in tampa. you're seeing it here, opening session lasted just two minutes. some suggest it needs to rethink it's convention location autos they need to go back in july, having it was not a good idea in the peak of hurricane season. there is no need for the convention to be this late. >> mitt romney and paul ryan will not arrive until tomorrow. the speech will be thursday night in prime time and

helicopter is going give people pause. the plan to fly it 69 square miles over pacifica and san francisco over next six days on a low-flying mission. the helicopter is a bell 412 and is special pods that contain radiation detectors. the helicopter emits nothing, just detects radiation. that is going to go to the department of homeland security and this is to better help the government pinpoint if an attack were to happen. >> to f.we look at the radiation we're interested in finding thing that's don't belong there. the more we know about background the better job at doing stuff that is unusual. >> the pilot says the flight is at 70 knots, low in this

officer soiz said wait a minute. this is unusual. so this is in a way, children are so scared. it's not what they usually see in the morning. >> two men have been arrested and the chief said it appeared the people were interested in cell phones but too early to say if this is an organized stolen cell phone organization. a marin man accusing the government of forcing him to sin by not letting him pray with other muslims. he is suing the federal government over religious rights at the indiana prison where he's being held. he says officials let inmates do group activities but won't let them pray together. he says the school of islam requires muslims to pray together five times a day.

people along the gulf coast are stocking up on supplies and waiting for tropical storm isaac to make land fall. >> good evening. isaac is picking up energy and hovering over the gulf of mexico. winds up to 70 miles per hour and in new orleans they're expecting 18 inches of rain. >> there is a state of emergency as isaac moves nchl forecasters say the storm will bring 10-20 inches of rain and this is likely making land call between florida and new orleans. >> you just have to do whatever have you to do. make it work. >> the mayor of new orleans says the city is ready after the hard lesson from hurricane

we're now live where a vigil will take place tonight. >> the mayor and police chief expected to be among those here to honor the recent victims of a homicide. but today, and down the street it was a much different crowd addressing the issue. dominique is 32 years old, spending nearly half of his live as a gang member. >> you never knew if you're stepping on toes or you're in our neighborhood we're going hurt you. doesn't matter what the cost was. >> dozens ever are spreading the way about a better way of life. there have been 33 homicides so far this year. police say 13 have been gang related. police increase patrols, community organizations were
