look whose back! thank you for joining us i'm eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze police at the scene in antioch officers shot and killed a domestic violence suspect after a high speed chase and being fired upon. amy hollyfield is live where the confrontation ended. >> reporter: this is quite a story. it ended on the roof of a home. police are still investigating. they say the man climbed up on the roof of a home while up here they say he pointed a gun at officers that's when they shot and killed him. presumably the roof of a home of strangers ended up there

after a long chain of events. he was fleeing officers in a car. there was a child inside that car. police tell me that child is okay. crash the car then he took off on -- he crashed the car then took off on foot leaving the kid in the car. he ran through backyards then ended up on the the roof of a home where he was shot. people who were living in the area say they couldn't believe what they were hearing. >> sounded like clapping, boom, boom, boom! they was like come down. >> reporter: this all started at 11:15 last night. police were called to a domestic dispute involving a again. fast they were chasing the man in the car he did ram into two police cars before he crashed. they haven't released information about the man or the child. they are in the beginning

stages of this investigation. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. 4:33. developing news right now hurricane warnings cover nearly 300 miles of the gulf coast as tropical storm isaac barrels towards landfall. the storm is strengthening expected to become a category 1 hurricane, new orleans is in the crosshairs. katie marzullo is in the breaking news center. >> reporter: it is going to be the 7th anniversary of hurricane katrina, more on that in a second. the latest information has tropical storm isaac making landfall in southeastern louisiana late tonight or tomorrow morning, as eric mentioned it is gaining strength. i'm seeing different reports as to whether it would hit as a cat 1 or cat 2 hurricane. a live look now at the gulf coast as the sun comes up, the waves crashing against that structure. in the foreground is a live

news van. the media getting close but this not where officials there are going to want residents to be. right now officials in new orleans have not ordered evacuations. in st. charles parish more than 50,000 have been told to leave. hurricane warnings in effect from louisiana to the florida/ alabama state line, new orleans airport closed, business owners closing and boarding up windows. then there are those who are stocking up on emergency supplies, choosing to ride out the storm. >> we know what you have to have to make it through, make do until that power comes back on. >> loud, noisey and if you are going to be knocked around, if you are not used to it is going to scare you. >> reporter: if isaac hits 0 tomorrow with it will mark the 7th anniversary of hurricane katrina. the mayor of new orleans says 10 billion dollars in improvements have been made to

the levee systems. since isaac is not expected to be as strong the city should be able to weather the storm. residents are still being advised to be cautious. for the latest facts and figures on the storm we check in with mike. good morning. live doppler centered on the gulf coast, thunderstorms not looking impressive, rainfall minimal. more rain yesterday in florida than what we are getting along the gulf coast now. if you look at clouds below the system, down to the south now as those wrap around we'll start to get concerned about the system intensifying into a hurricane over the next 12 hours and heavier rain startinging to move in. still tropical storm 70 mile per hour winds should be on top of new orleans about midnight. i still think miss buy is going to take the brunt of this storm up to 18 inches possible, freshwater flooding bigger concern than the storm

it is now parked at his mother's house in san diego. he's scheduled to appear in court october 9th. more in a live report from terry mcsweeney coming up in our next half hour. fire damaged chevron refinery is still leaking hydro carbons at illegal levels. the fire sent a plume of toxic smoke over the bay area. yesterday an investigators said the hydrocarbon leak has been isolated and will stop as soon as today. 18,000 residents filed health claims with chevron, 3,000 have signed up to file legal claims. chevron faces daily fines of up to $25,000 for violating air quality standards. this morning park rangers at yosemite are trying to track down visitors who may have been exposed to the rare hantavirus, a second person

has now died, two others sick. all four stayed in separate tent cabins at curry village within 100 feast each other in mid june the cabins have all been sanitized but the virus can air after a cabin is cleaned. symptoms mirror the flu and can take weeks to develop after exposure to rodent droppings or waste. the first fatality was a man from alameda county. bill giving drivers greater pro tension against red light cameras the measure was approved by the senate yesterday and establishes standards throughout the stay the bill would make it easier for drivers to fight tickets issued by red light cameras. many have questioned accuracy and some cities accused of using cameras to boost revenue the new law prohibits them from doing that the bill's author hopes he will sign

security that has significance to the bay area. >> reporter: inside the tampa bay forum first day of business postponed because of tropical storm isaac. outside the security is at full strength, roads closed, multiple check points to get in and armed national guard troops patrolling the perimeters. inside this room, agencies, including fbi, secret service and tampa police are watching video screens, beaming back real-time pictures from around the city. cameras that are in place to watch over tampa and that technology will be enhanced by an artificial intelligence software designed to pick up abnormal movement. >> it looks at objects and it looks at people as objects and it learns what is normal behavior in a view. then what it alerts on when something odd happens. >> reporter: in a car drives on to a train track the software will alert. >> if somebody falls at the
