happening right now at 6:00 this morning, developing news on the gulf, you are looking at a live picture of new orleans, and you can tell the storm is coming. isaac moving closer to land promising to bring rain, wind and a dangerous storm surge we are tracking the storm and its affects from louisiana to florida. good morning thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. let's tart with that developing news. new video overnight from lake pontchartrain in louisiana weighs are pounding the new levees isaac remains a

tropical storm but expected to reach hurricane status time today. isaac is expected to make landfall late today or early tomorrow morning possibly in entitle. . right now the winds are about 70 miles an hour. isaac is expected to bring dangerous storm surge that has the gulf coast residents so worry. we learned president obama will address the nation about isaac in about an hour at 7 a.m.. what is the latest on the storm? let's check in with mike. good morning. here's a look at live doppler over the last three hours. you can see the storm starting to pick up in intensity, some thunderstorms that were down to the south are starting to wrap around the east and up to the north going to push more winds and rain towards new orleans and biloxi and mobile, alabama. right now still a tropical storm, 70 mile per hour winds it has slowed, moving out of the northwest at about seven miles per to the northwest at

seven miles per hour storm surge with cat 1 is four to five feet, the new levees should hold that. i believe the biggest threat is going to be freshwater flooding the rain where we can get 10 to 18 inches in southern mississippi going to create a lot more problems i think than the surge and winds. we'll keep an eye even this -- eye on . >> as isaac makes its trek toward the gulf new orleans says it is ready. the first line of defense the system of levees, millions of dollars in improvements have been made since hurricane katrina, seven years ago. canals and pumping stations have been upgraded. despite improvements new orleans city officials a any storm is unpredictable and warning people to be ready for the worst. in florida the republican convention will get down to business after cancelling the

morning at a d ui check point from san diego. he spent 11 hours in jail, posted bail and released. his mother was with him all evening and the time of the arrest. she says there was a dinner party for a priest from germany, a friend of the bishop's the wine was flowing and they kept refilling the bishop's glass with wine. she says she saw that wanted to say something but didn't want to seem what she calls like a -- calls as abouty mom and didn't say anything now she wishes she had >> i blame myself for that he was driving good. we went through the checkpoint and he was driving fine, walking fine, just found his alcohol level higher than it should have been. >> reporter: cordileone, a controversial figure to the archbishop in san francisco conservative, supported prop 8 the voter approved measure

we start at 6:30 with developing miss. you are looking at a live picture from the gulf coast, as tropical storm isaac moves closer to land. right now the storm is expected to make landfall late tonight or early tomorrow this is new orleans in louisiana, also, we want to show you new video just in, this is bahama, -- this is alabama, how it looks this morning. strong waves pounding the coastline expected to get worse as the day goes on. good morning i'm kristen sze. i'm eric thomas. isaac is a tropical storm storm is expected to reach hurricane strength. let's check in with mike. live doppler 7 hd, i think it could happen over the next six hours or so, we are looking at last three hours you can see convection starting to wrap around the eye, the eye a little more defined, when that happens the storm tends to deepen and

increase in intensity, looks like it is starting to develop. as we look at how far it is from new orleans, 175 miles moving northwest at self sprint miles an hour, -- [ unintelligible ] my main concern not the storm surge four to five feet that depends on the tide how high it will be the levees can ham a four to five foot storm surge around new orleans. my main concern is what we call freshwater flooding all the rain going to fall into mississippi up to a teen inches that will cause probably more flooding than the storm surge will. isaac causing worries from louisiana to florida. katie marzullo continues our live team coverage from the breaking news center. >> reporter: we now in 30 minutes from the white house president obama is going to make a statement on tropical storm isaac.

meantime, another live look at this shot out of new orleans, rough seas there, the water lapping up against the embankment, we've seen similar shots just like that this morning. things seem to get picking up as we wait for isaac to make landfall expected southeastern louisiana no later than tomorrow morning as a possible cat 1 hurricane. officials in new orleans have not ordered evacuations. residents in other areas of louisiana and mississippi have been told to leave. the new orleans airport is closed, business owners closing up, there are those who are stocking up on supplies saying they are going to stay. >> we know what you have to have to make it through make due until that power comes back. >> loud, noisey and you are going to be knocked around and

come up check out what we can see the evidence markers on the sidewalk at least 10, they usually put those out where they find shell casings. whether all of those came from officer's guns or the suspected fired we don't know. originally we were told maybe one officer shot one bullet at the suspect looks like it was several more. we were told that the man ran through several blocks through backyards trying to get away from police and climbed up on top on the roof of a random home in antioch. police say the man pointed a gun at them, that's when officers fired at him, he was shot and kill. he not only ran from police he -- he tried to escape by car police say he a child in the car and did ram into several police cars before he crashed. police say the kid is fine he left the child when he took off running. he terrified the neighborhood,

his drunk driving arrest over the weekend. bishop cordileone spent a night in jail after he failed a breathalyzer and now out on bail. he was pulled over in san diego where he was visiting family and friends. the car the bishop was driving is registered to the catholic diocese. it is now parked at his mom's house in san diego. he's scheduled to appear in court october 9th, four days after he anyoned as archbishop in san francisco. >> the chevron refinery still leaking hydrocarbons at high levels. yesterday an investigation set the hydrocarbon leak has been isolated and will stop today. >> >> rare hantavirus says expected of causing the death of -- the death of another visitor to yosemite second
