louisiana and isaac reache reached -- is expected to make land fall a day before the 7th anniversary of hurricane katrina. and it is a slow-moving storm and could cause flooding. >> people along the gulf coast have been busy boarding up homes and businesses today. there are shelters along the coast. and in louisiana some 50,000 people cleared out of st. charles parish near new orleans. >> this will be the first real test for the levies rebuilt on the gulf. the army corps of engineers spent $14 billion on pump protection. and spencer christian is tracking isaac for us now. >> here is a live radar image you can see how close this is

to new orleans. and it's a slow moving storm. the problem is that these bands of rain and thunderstorms. you can see the category one hurricane with winds up to 80 miles per hour. could gain strength before making land fall and and a category one over new orleans. expected to continue on a track that is northwesterly, moving inland, weakening to a tropical storm, then to a tropical depression. as the storm maintains it's structure, it will be producing heavy rain as far as missouri and illinois along the mississippi valley. again, expected to make land fall tonight around new orleans. there are preparations under

residents fighting to save 80 trees and the fight being led by the man that used to be the city mayor. a man by the city council in march would have cut down trees to widen the road between al costa boulevard. it's been a dangerous thoroughfare for drivers but city residents and former mayor say parking -- cutting the trees is for safety. a crowd is expected for the city council meeting where the public will hear new plans for the streets. this is tonight at 7:00. >> in san francisco, we're keeping watch on whether homeless people will be moving back into an encampment cleaned out today. dozens have lived in the encampment near 4th and king streets as hng as 10 years.

police are fighting back against a recent spike in gang violence, sweeps netted more than a dozen suspects and police say they're not done yet and we're live with a story. vic? >> police have authorized 800,000ses today pay for more overtime so they can continue sweeps. they say that is enough money to continue these operations until the end of the year. >> this startsed friday night.

checking healthy living news health officials renewing a call for pregnant women to get flu shots after a study found in risks with the vaccine and serious birth defects.

researchers studied 9,000 pregnant women who received the shot. only 2% had a baby with major birth defects. the same rate as 7,000 women. who did not get the vaccine. they also have lower still birth rates and they are babies had a lower death rate. >> seems exercising in mid life can pay november later years. a study looked at thousands of men and women over age 65 and found that those who had higher levels of fitness when they're younger had fewer chronic illnesses decades later, including heart and lung disease as well as fewer stroke autos intellectually disabled will likely replace the words words that supporters say are outdated.
