happening right now, hurricane isaac makes landfall punishing winds and heavy rains have hit several gulf cities tonight. the impact could get worse. >> and here in the bay area a woman is kid mapped and sexually assaulted by a man posing as a police officer. the warning for residents in one normally quiet east bay city. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. the rapist posing as a law enforcements officer may not be the only one preying on women in pleasanton of the alan wang is live at the intersection where a police impersonator pulled over his victim. alan? >> carolyn, this where the fake cop reportedly pulled over his victim on august 5th. she was so traumatized being raped at gunpoint she didn't

report it until recently. this is actually the second sexual assault this month. highly unusual for the town of pleasanton. >> it is pretty shocking. i have lived here a longtime, and i haven't heard of any violent crime here. >> news of a rapist posing as a police officer has pleasanton residents on edge. the victim was driving home around 3:00 a.m. when he flashed a light and let out a quick chirp. the victim pulled over on seal avenue south of bernal avenue where the suspect displayed a fake police badge. >> he order -- ordered her to step out of the car and she complied. she walked back to his car at which point he handcuffed her and put her in the back of the car. >> police say he drove her to a secluded road 1k3* sexually assaulted her. he is a white male between 20 and 30 years old with a muscular build. he is between 5 foot 10 and 6

feet tall, 185 pounds and he wore a dark button down shirt and police-style hat. >> it is scary. i don't know how i would react in a situation like that of the. >> things like badges, uniforms and handcuffs can be bought on-line, but official police lights have a steady red light in the blinking sequence. >> always call 9-1-1 and they can confirm if the stop is legitimate. >> this is the second sexual assault in pleasanton. on august 19th, the woman was uh agod and robbed at the park. police released this sketch of the suspect, and they believe he left this hat behind. detectives are unsure if the two assaults are related. the police impersonator is described as wearing a traditional police hat, but pleasanton police say it is rare you will see them wearing the hats out on the streets. alan wang, abc news. right now louisiana is under assault from hurricane

isaac after the storm made landfall near the mouth of the mississippi river. heavy rains are pounding lafitte near new orleans. it could dump as much as 20 inches of rain. 200,000 homes and businesses are without electricity because winds knocked out power lines. the mayor of new orleans assured residents their city is secure, but emphasizes they are in hunker down mode. now more from new orleans. >> hurricane isaac made landfall anding paing 80 mile per hour winds. it is whipping up the surf and dumping heavy rain and causing flooding along the gulf. and it is only going to get worse. >> this is a very dangerous storm. loss of life is a very real possibility. >> this is not going to be over quick. >> this image shows how it has grown and intensified and become more organized. life has come to a halt in places like gulf port,

mississippi. buildings boarded up and residents hunk erred down. no planes or trains or school and power outages expected. >> for your own safety and the safety of others use common sense and don't go out and put yourself and others in a dangerous position. >> shelters are filling with those who heeded warnings from all levels. >> now is not the time to tempt fate. now is not the time to dismiss official warnings. you need to take this seriously. >> in new orleans, the levies that failed during hurricane katrina exactly seven years ago will get their first big test since the upgrade. >> we will probably get street flooding from the rain and heavier winds and the lights going out, but we are prepared for all of that. >> officials stress eye swrk -- isaac will impact more than the coastal communities. >> the gusty winds and heavy rains picked up shortly after isaac made landfall earlier in the evening.

and this weather is expected to stay like this all night. reporting in new orleans, abc7 news. >> it is nasty and we have been tracking isaac all evening long. >> you can see what it looks like right now. bands of rain, heavy rain from hurricane isaac hammering the new orleans coast. it made landfall earlier this evening as a category one hurricane around 5:00 this evening. i want to show you observations from the area. we have gotten reports of moderate rainfall from new orleans international. winds 45 miles an hour and gusting to 61 miles an hour. visibility is obviously low due to the heavy rain and the wind. moderate rains and winds gusting to 66 miles an hour. it is the heavy rain combined with a storm surge. so far shell beach with a storm surge of 11 feet.

now. san francisco families are waiting for word that they can get back into their homes tonight after a massive watermain break. it happened at sunnydale and tomaso court. abc7 news reporter john alston is live in the neighborhood. repair crews have been there for what 12 hours or so? >> yes and they will be here

another hour to get the water reconnected. behind me the workers have been at it all day trying to restore water to 14 evacuated homes. electricity has been shut off as a precaution and residents were told to leave. this family was living in their car instead of their home after a river of water gushed down tomaso court. 14 homes had to be evacuated for most of the day. >> oh my god, oh my god. >> her grandson took cell phone video from the water and helped his elderly grand parents reach dry land. >> we just calmed them down, me and my brother. we walked down the street to where the church is at. >> the church is next to the our lady of the visitation school which was swamped when the transmission line broke just after 11:00 a.m. and it spewed tens of thousands of gallons of water down sunnydale avenue. sky 7hd captured videos of

children using a picnic table as a makeshift bridge to get up and over the deeper water that flooded the schoolyard. classes won't resume until early september. >> they will have to re-do everything. >> a san francisco water department ticial says the 42 inch line appeared to separate at a joint. it was a project finished eight months ago. there was paving in the area, but it is not known what caused the watermain to fail. water pressure was affected for two hours. >> we did feel the pressure drop. not only here in san francisco, but daily city and brisbane and possibly as far south as south san francisco. >> for 14 families, the inconvenience has lasted much longer jie. right now we can't get to our house. they allowed my mom to get her medicine and dad to get his medicine, but we can't get to the house. >> he and his parents are staying with loved ones. they provided free hotel rooms for 22 other residents. in san francisco, john alston,

abc7 news. >> thank you, john. two newborns are undergoing treatment after becoming infected with a highly contagious bacteria. the spread of mrsa began in the neo natal care unit. doctors say 20 other newborns were exposed to the antibiotic bacteria. they have not known signs of infection. it is a staph that can cause fever and chills. the staff is investigating whether poor hygiene is to blame for this outbreak. after taking a lot of heat, the san ramon city council reversed course a short time ago and voted to save dozens of trees. some residents want to remove 84 sycamores that line the center divide of bollinger canyon road to widen the lanes. activists urge the city leaders to spare the trees. they plan to take another measure to improve traffic safety. a very warm day, but the things are changing.

an ohio hospital is reviewing transplant procedures after a nurse accidentally threw away a kidney headed for a donor recipient. >> they say the organ was tossed in the garbage by mistake. >> it was ruined in the trash and couldn't be saved. the medical center has placed two nurses on administrative leave while it brings in an expert to investigate. >> there are 140,000 people nationwide waiting for a kidney transplant, so there are none to spare, especially to throw in the trass can. >> you wouldn't think that could happen. >> oops. >> larry beil is off tonight. >> yes, and pretty good pitching in the a's and giants. a's trying to shut out cleavland, and have you ever seen a baby giraffe run? that was the sight to

the pitcher is back with the giants after serving a 100 pf game suspension after a second positive drug test. bruce bochy said there was never a doubt about his return saying we all mick mistakes. the astros were one big mistake, but they gave them a pain. pablo sandoval can't handle this pop up, but crawford bails him out with a diving grab to end the inning. quick reflexes by the giants short stop of the the astros take the lead, but bochy made all of the right moves. it is a pitch hit down the left field line. he is running from first and hustles all the way around to tie the score. and then with one out and another pinch hitter, hector sanchez comes through with a bloop to center field.
