captain, jose martinez died fighting a rare arks gresive form of cancer. >> and the coast guard recovered a sail boat that sank this afternoon in san francisco bay. you can see from sky 7 just how choppy water is. the boat went down about a mile south of the bridge. firefighters quickly rescued the 51-year-old man and 16-year-old girl on board. no word on what went wrong. everyone is okay. >> and we want to warn but two major closures this weekend that could affect your holiday travel. san francisco fremont street is now closed, from howard to mission street and this is part of the trance bay terminal. another major closure is the dunbarton bridge. 10:00 tonight the bridge is

closed for upgrade work. it will reopen after the long weekend, 5:00 a.m. tuesday morning. abc 7 news is live at the eastern side of the bridge tonight. >> we're standing just east of dunbarton bridge. this fishing pier is a segment of the original bridge from 1927. it wasn't replaced with a current version until 1982. and now, it's time for that to have an up grade. caltrans will be replacing the eastern seismic joints. >> they're 30 years old. so we're banding their movement this weekend. >> caltrans will be lifting the bridge to put feel steel bearings in place. the same work done over memorial day. >> this two discs fit together. this gives this bridge about up to four feet of movement.

to pay a $150 cancellation fee. however, united said it would refund $100 of that because this was a medical emergency. >> you pay $150 they'll reimburse you 100s fdz you send in the document autos linda applied for the refund and submitted forms, united sent her this letter saying your request for a refund has been approved. so she waited for her $100 but that didn't quite happen. >> three days later i got a credit of $5. >> $5? there must be a mistake. she contacted united ask asked where was the rest of the money? >> they would say sorry. only recourse is e mail them. so i would e mail, again. >> united told her it could not find her records. she should send another e mail. >> i explained but i've just sent four e mails. i'm not getting a response. it became like i'm going get this no matter what. >> she was told all records

changed when united merged with continental airline autos my ticket number, my claim number. nothing was valid anymore. there is no way to look it up. so that is when i called 7 on your side. >> we contacted united airline asks within days linda received her refound. not $5 or $100 but the entire $150. and united said we review on a case by case basis. after reviewing the circumstances we refunded the service charge. so why did she get that first $5? united says that was a tax she paid which united refunds for cancelled flights on mileage plus. linda says the $150 is nice but after all, this wasn't about the money. >> i pretty much had given up. and this just became a matter

curry village in yosemite national park may have been exposed to the recent deadly outbreak of hanta virus. the cdc says the people who stayed at cabins in curry village could be at ritz being of developing hanta virus within the next six weeks. and asking if they could have been exposed to the virus. and two have died. >> and california will spend up to $10 million over the next three years to enforce it's online sales tax law. that law was passed and expands the state sales tax to any out of staten line retailers that do substantial business in california. the state now plans to hire 100 new state specialists to crack down on internet merchants that don't collect sales taxes from california customers. officials say they could collect $300 million a year

they waited until the last day of the session but state lawmakers managed to agree on something significant and far reaching. they sent the governor a pension reform bill that could save billions of dollars over time. abc 7 news is live at the capitol with this big step. >> and despite objections both democrats and republican as proved the biggest pension roll back in california

history. with costs spiralling out of control and pressure mounting to fix the problem, the legislature sent governor brown a sweeping package aimed at overhauling state p public pension. >> this makes sure that our pensions are affordable to we, the public. in the long run. but are dependable for workers who toil away and public service for 20 or 30 years. >> and ending abuses like pension spiking it rolls back benefits for new hires and raising contribution that's workers and current employees must make to at least half of the payments to their pensions. most will have to work longer and only the first $110,000 of their salary can be counted towards pension, critics think it's too watered down. >> this is a very, very short hair cut. and for the union. >> there is a about $150 million saved next year and cal pers estimates over po
