good tuesday morning. 4:31 a.m. thank you for joining us i'm eric thomas and i'm kristen sze. terror 11 years later. this morning america remembers the 11th anniversary of september 11th. katie marzullo is live in the newsroom to begin our team coverage. >> reporter: there will be memorial events at all three locations where the terror attacks occur first live to new york city the ceremony there will be unique this year, only relatives will be reading the names of the 2977 victims who died there. government officials will not speak there today. president obama and others will be marking the day in washington the president will observe a moment of silence before going to an observance

ceremony at the pentagon. vice president biden is expected to speak at the san francisco bound flight 93 memorial near shanksville, pennsylvania. land turns have been placed there and -- participants will ring bells of remembrance. >> it is difficult to find some peace and quiet time to celebrate my son. >> i think that everybody wants to remember 9/11. but, we need to have our privacy too. >> reporter: some 4 1/2 million people have visited the 9/11 memorial since it opened last year. the new 1 world trade center stands tall. also marking somber day president obama and mitt romney both agreed to pull negative political ads. katie marzullo, abc7 news. to some of the local remembrances. coit tower is glowing red,

white and blue. the iconic tower was built on telegraph hill in 1931 to honor the city's firefighters. this is a live picture of the coit tower. since 9/11, this has been lit up in america's colors on these anniversaries. in a couple of hours the san francisco fire department will honor their colleagues in the new york city fire service who died on 9/11. the public is indicated. amy hollyfield is live at station 7 with details. >> reporter: the public is invited to come to any fire station in the city to honor the firefighters who were killed at the world trade center in new york. you will see a ceremony like this one, we have video from the past this will be happening at all 43 san francisco fire stays. it will start 6:45 this

morning. 6:59 they recognize the collapse of the south tower, they ring a bell to signify the last alarm. at 7:00, they will read the names out loud of all 343 firefighters who died from the new york fire department. a dozen san francisco firefighters traveled to new york after the taxes to help with the recovery. some came back sick from everything they inhaled in the air there. at the time, they say their own health wasn't what they were focused on. they say what they saw in new york 11 years ago, still haunts them. they will stop and remember today. they promised never to forget the sacrifice firefighters made that day. here at station 7, the chief of the fire department and the mayor will be here. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. we have developing news in san jose, fire crews are

investigating a fire at an apartment complex. this is home video near lewis road in south san jose fire crews got the call before 3:00 this morning. they called for more help 10 minutes later because they had to perform rescues. right now the fire is out, no reports of injuries. a dozen people are displaced. terry mcsweeney will have a live report from the scene at the top of the hour. milpitas police investigating their first homicide of the year at the 7-eleven store on north milpitas boulevard early saturday, two blocks from the police department. an employee was shot and killed during a robbery. he's identified as a 67-year-old man, murders are rare in milpitas. neighbors say they are shocked to learn he was shot after the three masked robbers got the money from the cash register. >> my daughter goes to school here, her mom grew up here, she loves it here. this is very shocking.

>> flowers have been left outside the store. milpitas police say all detectives are working on this case. they won't talk about the evidence likely they are going over video, cameras are installed throughout the store. funeral services will be held thursday morning in vacaville for highway patrol officer kenyon youngstrom the officer shot last week in al movement highway patrol motorcade escorted officer -- youngstrom's body to a funeral home along the route it was saluted by firefighters, local law enforcement and members of the public. as the procession approached the mortuary, chp helicopter did a fly-by in tribute. honor guard escorted his casket into the funeral home. services are scheduled for 10 a.m. at mission church in vacaville. they are closed to the public. early warning for commuters who drive across the 4th busiest bridge in the bay

area, san mateo bridge closed two weekends next month to fix a cracked beam. it probably be october 19th and 267th. a -- and 26th. new study shows a split between golden gate transit and transit district could make it difficult for local commuters who transfer to regional lines that carry them to san francisco. golden gate transit provides bus service from marin to san francisco, also buses, drivers and support staff for the marin county district, which operates local routes. most riders are not aware there are two operators. the marin ij reports with marin transit losing money it wants to renegotiate agreements with golden gate transit which could severe their ties that would make more difficult for commuters to transfer between local and

this vacant warehouse is about to be renovated for the past decade it has been a tagging spot for graffiti artist. the new owner decided to invite artists in for one last hurrah. unfortunately, about 4,000 people showed up quickly flooding the streets and pouring into the neighborhood, causing vandalism and property damage. >> you appreciate the artistic side but when you vandalize people's property depending on the amount of damages it could be a misdemeanor up to a felony. >> although it wasn't us that did any this vandalism we want to take care of it so they know we are serious about showing real art. >> owner says he thought only a dozen would take part. rotten eggs, that's how people are describing the nasty stench over southern california forcasters hope the change in wind direction will help. experts believe the source is
