as far as our temperatures today they are going to be coolest at the coast and cooler than yesterday. also some 70 around the bay and 80s in the east bay valleys. >> kristen: young kids, saying poop. >> you got say it. >> kristen: good morning. 5:00, i'm kristen sze. >> eric: topping news. classes will go on schedule despite a frightening incident. >> a chase begin in vallejo ended in gunfire at fair oaks elementary. katie marzullo is live at the school to explain. >> reporter: when parents and students arrived. school is scheduled as normal. this is what they are going to find on their campus at the end of this road. this is the damage that is left behind and somewhere on the building behind that, a bullet hole. of course, this is where the

story ends at fair oaks elementary school in pleasant hill and ended before 8:30 last night. vallejo police pursued two suspects to this location but it started in vallejo around 7:45. the driver did not stop and reached speeds of 80 miles an hour on highway 680 and then coming to a crashing stop right here and then gunfire. >> at when point the driver got out of car, made a gesture and fired one shot. they were taken into custody without further incident. >> reporter: just to be clear it was a police officer who fired his weapon but nobody was hit. nobody was hurt. the driver and passenger were arrested on the scene. the sergeant on the scene tells us they have recovered evidence that supports the original stop and the arrest. that evidence might be drugs that were reportedly seen being

thrown from the car as police pursued it. no weapons have been recovered. there have been seven involved police shootings. five have been fatal. >> kristen: new this morning, contra costa authorities are investigating a suspicious fire next to a strip mall in antioch. it started shortly before midnight when some trees caught fire at a mall on "l" and sycamore streets. fire investigators say flames hit both sides of the building. there was another small fire down the street overnight. there were no injuries. parts of the strip mall will open later this morning. >> eric: kenyon youngstrom has been laid to rest at sacramento valley national cemetery in dickson. it followed an emotional final goodbye in vacaville.

[ bag pipes playing ] >> eric: nearly 4,000 mourners including governor jerry brown and attorney general pamela harris paid their respects during the funeral for the officer that was killed last week in the line of duty. one of the most moving moments came from the 37-year-old chp officer's partner. he was on patrol with youngstrom when he was shot during a traffic stop in alamo. he killed the gunman before giving aid to his partner. >> i know he can hear me. i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for always being there for me. i look forward to seeing you again brother. >> eric: if you would like to help the family you can go to any bay area branch of wells fargo or mechanics bank and ask

to contributed to the kenyon yuck strom's memorial fund. the 7-eleven store clerk memorial will be gathering outside the store where 67-year-old where he was shot to death during a robbery early saturday morning. police have not made any arrests but they have surveillance photos three of suspects. take a close look right now. 7-eleven is offering a $10,000 reward in the case. >> eric: search for an armed robber following a standoff. it started at a home. witnesses say they saw a man with a gun break into the house. you see the tactical team surrounding it. the s.w.a.t. team entered the home looking for the burglar but there was no one inside. >> we will move forward based on the information that was

provided by the witnesses. at this time we are not releasing what this individual looks like. we are going to have the investigation move forward. we do want to find this person. >> sky7hd shows you how the siege impacted the neighborhood. they are not releasing a description because it could jeopardize their investigation. >> kristen: another setback for ross mirkarimi. they have denied a request by mirkarimi's lawyers to delay the board of supervisors decision on his future. they want to wait until after the elections. his lawyers contend that some supervisors will feel political pressure to fire him so they can get re-elected. they said mirkarimi's petition is based on pure speculation so they denied it. >> eric: homeless families in san francisco will soon be getting some aid to help them stay in stable housing and keep parents from having to place children in foster care.

the city of san francisco will receive $5 million over the next five years in federal and foundation grants. it will fund counseling, services and employment, mental health as well as other challenges those families face. >> kristen: firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a fire that badly damaged a home in the oakland hills. we were overhead soon after the blaze broke out yesterday evening. it happened to a house and with smoke billowing out. the home belongs to a u.c. berkeley professor that was on his way home when the fire broke out. >> my kids or safe. all five animals are safe. nothing else matters frankly. >> kristen: firefighters say the fire may have smoldered for hours in the in the basement. the rest of the house suffered major smoke and water damage. >> eric: bart is going to spend a million dollars to that tackle

the problem of pigeon poop and rats. they are similar to these to prevent pigeons from perching above passengers and pedestrians. some of the money will be used to kill a growing rat population at some stations. station agents have raised concerns about the rodent problem for some time. i think that the first time i said that word on tv. it's been 30 years. i don't know about the luster but it's been long. time to look at the forecast. >> nothing stinky about that, mike. >> there she goes. you are looking at southwest wind in fairfield. a little stronger sea breeze and that is why temperatures may be cooler in a few areas in the east bay valleys are going to be pretty warm this afternoon.

they are a little more uniform. so we should see sunshine rather rapidly. notice this trough developing and another bulging piece of energy that is coming down and that is why we'll see the cooling trend as we head into a to the weekend. temperatures are still in the 50s. clouds will be back by noon. warm 80s and warmest temperatures around the bay, low 70s for the lunchtime. at the coast. 50s and top out around the 60. very comfortable everywhere this evening except the coast. you will need to keep that jacket handy as we head into the evening hours, especially after the sun set is going to get cool rather rapidly. tomorrow a lot like today and then you can see the cooling trend to start move through our neighborhood. temperatures are about four to six degrees cooler by the time we get to monday.

happy birthday. that is america's money. have a great day. >> kristen: it's 5:15. officials at yosemite are expanding their outreach efforts following another case of rare hantavirus. nine people have come down with the virus. three have died. most of them stayed at cabins at curry village. one caught it at a high sierra campground. they taking steps to notify people that anyone that has spent the night at yosemite. that is 230,000 people. hantavirus is most commonly spread through rodent droppings. >> eric: new york city is cracking down on super size the sodas. the ban will take effect in about six months and prohibit restaurants, mobile food carts and concession stands to sell them larger than 16 ounces.

monterey bay, cloud cover and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. here is what is going to happen today. you can see how quickly the clouds will pull back to the coast by about 10:00 or 11:00. we'll have a one finger of fog rolling through the golden gate and keeping the east bay shoreline a little cooler. we'll see sunshine develop at the coast but probably not quite as much as yesterday. 70s creeping in around sunnyvale. everybody else in the low to mid-70s. cupertino, 81 degrees. low to mid-70s around the peninsula and millbrae, 69. the breeze will originate around pacifica, 59 degrees and 63 for half moon bay. mid to upper 60s downtown san francisco and sausalito. upper 70s to 80s in north bay valleys. low to mid-60s at your beaches. there is the breeze and

everybody else around 70s. the breeze won't make it into the east bay valleys. that is why the temperatures in the 80s low 90s there. low to mid 70s watsonville and santa cruz. the boys are back. a's, what a road trip. taking on the orioles. fireworks friday. 52 --62 degrees dropping down to 57. it will be a little chilly you may want to take a blanket and even a coat. cloud cover, north bay, the bay itself out to the coast and temperatures in the 50s. let's take a look at accu-weather seven-day forecast, you can see tomorrow a lot like today. cooling will start to move inland sunday and temperatures will drop probably about 6-10 degrees by the time we get to next week. good morning everyone.

bay valleys. >> kristen: good friday morning. thanks for starting our day with us. i'm kristen sze. >> eric: i'm eric thomas. a string of suspicious fires. they have arson investigators sifting through clues in antioch this morning. >> kristen: amy hollyfield is live near the scene. >> they were worried when they got here to the 99 cent store because the tree was on fire, it was starting to touch the building and there is a whole strip mall. take a look why they were concerned. look what they saw when they arrived a big fire about to spread over to a strip mall. they ran the second alarm and called for more firefighters. they did get it out. they saved the strip mall without any problems but then they started noticing there was something suspicious going on. >> fire on the northwest side of the building. we did have another additional exterior fire on the southeast

side of the building and hour before that there was fire down the street on sycamore. we do have an investigator there. >> reporter: the shopping center is at sycamore drive and "l" street. it's called sycamore square. again, they did save the mall. the building looks fine and businesses do plan to open today but investigators want to figure out who is doing this. they want to put a stop to this before they strike again. amy hollyfield, "abc 7 news". >> kristen: california highway patrolman was laid to rest, kenyon youngstrom following an emotional funeral in vacaville. nearly 34,000 mourners including jerry brown paid their respects during the two hour service for the 37-year-old officer. he died after being shot last week during a traffic stop.

plan to stage several demonstration. day of action will culminate with a march set to begin at 5:00 p.m. in front of bank of america building on california street. they say the movement has been successful in stopping some foreclosures. >> wells fargo has come to the table and they are sitting down and looking at the modification process where it can be successful for the homeowner and the banks. >> eric: it begins with a noontime protest at war memorial building. demonstrations will take place in the castro district and pg&e headquarters on market street. >> university of california final report on the handling of the occupy protest at u.c. campuses is out this morning. u.c. police officers came under fire for their efforts to remove the protestors last november. officers grabbed and clubbed demonstrators and using pepper spray spray at u.c. davis. they have 39 recommendations for

handling future demonstrations. it calls for better communication between officials and training for officers. >> eric: no injuries or damage reported from a moderate earthquake that shook northern california about 20 minutes ago. >> kristen: that was 4.5 quake. it was centered south of eureka and one 3.2 aftershock. we are making calls to determine how widespread that quake was felt. >> eric: we'll bring you updates no reports of injuries or damage so far. >> kristen: we're going to check in with mike nicco now. few clouds driving in this morning. >> they hold the fact they are not quite as thick as they were yesterday. we had a visibility that was dropping down to three-quarters to half a mile in half moon bay and a little lower in some other areas. they are out there but not as quite as close or hugging the ground as much as they were yesterday. let's talk about what is going on. you see a few high clouds for

the sig alert lifted. accident cleared out of the lanes. still residual slow traffic when you hit the coliseum. road work through sir francis drake boulevard in southern marin all the way towards the golden gate bridge. that road work has been picked up on the span of the bridge. we have nice drive through altamont pass. still about 15, 16 minutes from the altamont to dublin interchange. hopefully we will remain so for the rest of the commute. drive out of the southern marin, road work is getting picked up. hillcrest to 242, highway 4 westbound, will you find slow traffic out of antioch and highway 80 westbound, still less than 20 minutes on your drive from carquinez bridge all the way to the macarthur maze. >> eric: pg&e admits miles of
