>> terry: in the news this saturday morning, it's cleanup time in the mission district after vandals take to the streets for a second night. stranger danger and not one but three warnings going out to parents. i'm terry mcsweeney. let's start with a quick first look at the weather. here is lisa argen with the very first you a number forecast. >> lisa: here is the view from mount tam. you see the marine layer at about 800 feet. it won't be influencing the area very much, not only to today but the next several days. but it will keep a low profile and temperatures warm quickly today. we're in the 40s and 50s so it's cool at the coast. by noontime, we should be 60 at the coast and mid-70s inland and we are on the way to the warmer day for the weekend, mid 60s at

the shoreline, near 90 livermore valley and evening hours, more fog and sea breeze that is going to lead to a cooler sunday. i'll tell you how cool in a little bit. >> terry: this morning, several san francisco businesses are cleaning up after a second straight night of vandalism by protestors upset over a police shooting that occurred on thursday night. police lined up outside the police station to protect it after it was vandalized thursday night. 40 demonstrators threw things at police and one officer was injured. they damaged several businesses including a paint ball attack that broke a restaurant window. several windows were smashed. no arrests. this was all part of a protest that was organized through social networking. they say they did shoot a 22-year-old man thursday night at 14th street. he was armed with a machine gun at the time. the man has a violent history.

we have learned that he has been convicted of a assault and robbery and refereed prison two weeks ago. >> school officials are alerting people of three incidents. kidnapping attempt at park side elementary. a stranger on campus at another elementary school and somebody offered alcohol to another school at bay side academy. they aren't sure if the three are connected. a nine-year-old girl says a man tried to abduct her. she want back to school and reported the incident. police swarmed the area but they were not able to locate the would be kidnapper. other incidents were reported at two other schools and parents were notified by phone. >> san mateo police department are s treating these investigations very seriously. they are pouring resources into the investigation around the clock. we are saturating all

playgrounds and parks and any other areas children may gather to ensure the safety of the community. we are asking the community to maintain a high level of observation at playgrounds, parks or anywhere that children might congregate. >> the would be kidnap ser described as a white male in his 20s or 30s with six feet tall and freckles and some facial hair. a jail lock down at san mateo women's krejs center has been lifted. it was prompted by two tuberculosis cases. they locked down a section of the facility to prevent a possible spread of the illness. two inmates were diagnosed with active cases of tb on tuesday. it was made more threatening by overcrowded conditions. women were isolated and taken to an outside facility for treatment. >> there is a sad ending to the search for a retired san francisco firefighter who disappeared during a train trip to canada.

the body was found yesterday by a railway worker in nebraska. 69-year-old san mateo man was traveling across country when he vanished on september 13th. amtrak officials believe he may have fallen from that train. family members are devastated but they say they are grateful for the supported they received during the search. >> a marin county man has died in a bizarre climbing accident in utah. a doctor lived in novato. he is retired neurosurgeon. he died on us is repelling down a canyon at zion national park. this is one climb he felt he had to make. he ended up stuck upside-down to a water fall. he couldn't free himself and his wife had couldn't help on the ground. by the time they reached him, he was dead. this morning a grass fire near a golf course is under

investigation. it burned about six acres and came close to homes as i can see. it broke out boundary golf course on vally vista road. nobody was hurt. it did not damage those houses. >> this morning a man who judged into the tiger exhibited at bronx zoo is hospitalized in critical condition. the 25-year-old man got into the enclosure by jumping off an elevated mono rail train that goes around the zoo. he was mauled by a tiger. >> tigers are extremely capable predators. what they typically do is grab a prey animal by the head or the back of the neck. it's over very quickly. the cat did not do this to this individual. it was the animal's response and we got there so quickly and used

a fire extinguisher to distracted him. >> the tiger did nothing wrong and will not be euthanized. >> it's autumn but they say west nile virus activity is showing no signs of slowing. they report more infected mosquitoes and birds and chickens are showing up in central contra costa county. it comes on two cases this year. pesticides and fogging will continue for mosquitoes. colder weather will take care of the problem eventually. >> health officials say they have found a bird infected with the west nile virus near san francisco city college. this is the third time in five years that an infected bird has been found anywhere in the city. to control it they are cleaning out storm drains and residents are being asked to get rid of

>>. >> terry: did you see it? the space shuttle endeavour making a flight over the bay area. thousands gathered around vista point on the have around the golden gate bridge. they were everywhere and they enjoyed two fly-bys the golden gate and. >> i was a bit emotional. i was teared up a little bit. it surprised me. >> terry: that is where ways yesterday. another woman had tears pouring down her cheek. so emotional about that. farewell flight will be one of the most memorable considering the shuttle traveled 120 million miles through space.

>> here is a live look at endeavour down near it's new home down around los angeles airport. it received a huge welcome. it will be there several weeks before it begins a 12-mile ground trek to the california space center where it's going to become a permanent exhibit. they have it all planned out. they have 400 trees cut down so it will fit through. our viewers took great pictures. john griffin sent this one. take a look at that. it's right over his neighborhood. we love this one. hangar one, moffett field, endeavour flying above and an eighth grader mailed us this picture passing close to a middle school in san francisco over in the north beach neighborhood. thanks to everyone who sent in pictures.

including next week, mild to warm. we'll extend this right through looks like the end of the month. there are a couple of things that will change things up for the second half of the weekend. we're sitting between two systems. we have some of the high cloudiness. high pressure is to east of us in the rockies and we have clockwise flow around the high. low pressure to the north. it will bring up that stream of high cloudiness but we'll see a warm and sunny afternoon today. while numbers warm considerably today, this is not having much of an impact except bringing more low clouds tomorrow. temperatures get shaved off about 2-4 degrees across the bay. probably another very, very warm day except not record heat in reno. low 90s yesterday, 88 today. 97 in fresno and comfortable 70s along the coast with temperatures in the mid-80s.

yesterday and today, maybe a few high clouds but overall mostly sunny sky. here is a look at the numbers. 54 in can as well as concord. 57 is the warmer location as is fairfield and antioch, cool 40s resulting day after day. we will be looking at another chilly night but with low clouds spread across the bay. few high clouds but it's going to feel like summer especially today. even when the temperatures come up or go down, it's going to stay mild to warm for the weekend but into next week and the end of september is next sunday. we're not looking at any big dramatic changes as of yet. you know day to day things do change. we are looking right now at bay area in between systems, high pressure to the east and low pressure to the north. what that means, we are pretty much stuck in this weather regime which features a few high

clouds. by tomorrow the low treks on to the north and east. it will bring some clouds around here. slightly cooler weather. we'll wait on the sunshine a little bit. the numbers will be out of the 90-degree range in the livermore valley. probable out in the mid 80s in the santa clara valley, but today that is exactly what we're going to see. warm numbers remain for much of lake tahoe. fire danger is always this year. 89 in yosemite and we're very dry statewide. 93 in sacramento. back home, look at all the 80s. sunnyvale, 80 and 80 in milpitas. 82 in los altos. on the coast, low to mid 60s this afternoon. a little warmer today in the city, upper 60s and warmer here from marin to sonoma to napa with mid 80s in calistoga. alameda county, 70s here. out to the livermore valley, 80s

and upper 80s for walnut creek. widespread low 90s in morgan hill. 65 in monterey. fog is clearing throughout the coast right now. they have partly cloudy skies in monterey earlier and we are looking at beautiful nephew. in fact numbers will be couple degrees above normal except for around san francisco where we're looking at upper 60s. average high is about 70. game is 63. 57 at about 10:00 with few patches of fog. sea breeze kicks up today and it will be breezy but notice the numbers are staying rather stagnant through the week and very little fog. >> terry:, generators are an easy way to keep lights on but there are several options to choose from. michael finney takes a look at the choices and one you need to use with caution. >> more and more people like vincent are convinced its worth

to buy a power generator. >> once you lose power for any period of time you don't need any reason to get a generator, you'll get one. >> reporter: but which one. they tested generators ranging from n price $700 to $3,000. some are portable and others are stationary. they tested by hooking up to appliances and lights. generators run time depends on the type of fuel they use. >> most models were pretty much the same, 8-10 hours. however, when we looked at propane models they went through a tank of propane in about 4-6 hours. >> whichever you choose, you'll need plenty of fuel on hand and transfer switch to safely hook up the generator. it can run up to $900. stiah ear generators are more convenient, run on natural gas
