breaking news is alameda county. firefighters mopping up after major fire collapsed roof of a strip mall overnight. >> amy hollyfield is live an in union city. >> reporter: some small business owners are heartbroken this morning. their businesses are gone. this fire did serious damage. take a look at this video get a sense of how huge this fire was and what firefighters were up against. when they got here they realized this fire had a good head start on them. they saw hit been burning in the attic they decided to step back. turned out that was a good decision because the roof then collapsed. an hour and a half later they

had the fire out. they believe there is fire, smoke and water damage to 10 units or businesses here. >> when i walked in i did saw damages were done water is there a lot of smoke, smell, my backdoor is gone. you know, we'll be back on our feet again. >> reporter: for some businesses it is going to take longer than others. burned out mangled mess. some of the small businesses include a video store, nail salon, restaurant. some may be able to open up after the power is turned back on, others have a long road ahead. the strip mall is at dough and dier in union city.

police smelt alcohol on his breath. i looked and i saw a car coming through, coming towards me and my mom. >> the way they left her laying for dead is horrible. the boy's mother dana kennedy, a crossing guard mother and a women all hit kennedy hospitalized with broken legs, neck and punctured lung. police trying to determine what lead to a stabbing that left a teenaged girl in critical condition after 7:00 last night at the corner of 21st and valencia in the mission district. the teen was stabbed several times in the torso during a fight between two groups of people. paramedics rushed her to san francisco general. police still looking for the attacker. chevron says a section of its refinery remains closed

until the end of the year the unit hit by fire in august had more damage than first thought many the refinery has been operating at 60% since the fire.oú?"÷ the damaged unit is considered heart of the refinery because it distills crude oils into fuels, including gas. chevron is producing 92,000 fewer barrels per day. at stanford this morning the university will break ground on a first of its kind energy facility that will help the school reduce its carbon footprint. we have an artist rendering. it will use heat recovery to generate electricity and make stanford one of the most energy efficient research universities in the world. stanford says its carbon emissions will be cut in half. water use will drop. and it will save 2300 million dollars over the next 35 -- save 300 million dollars over

if you think you are safer because your car has an air bag, new warning you need to know about. auto industry officials say the government has alerted them thousands of car owners may be driving vehicles with counterfeit air bags that may not inflate in a crash. no models have been named. the government will make a formal announcement today and ask people to check a website or call dealer to see if their vehicle model is affected. bay area shoppers will be able to get same-day delivery shopping online with wal-mart. part of tests run by wal-mart in a handful of cities, including san francisco and san jose. customers will be able to order select toys, sports equipment, electronics for charge of $10. orders must be placed before noon and you will be allowed to select a four hour window to have the items delivered. san francisco residents

have been damaged. fires say when they realized how big the fire was they made a possibly lifesaving move. they pulled back, that was just before the roof collapsed. >> started inside. we started attack, once we got in and were able to assess better and understood we had fire over our heads, we backed out. >> reporter: here's a look inside of one of the businesses that has been destroyed. there are several businesses here, all small business owners a lot of them are heartbroken, nail salon, video store, restaurant in the corner where it looks like this possibly could have started firefighters will take a look at that later when the sun comes up. also an apartment building behind this strip mall, we are at alvarado and dire the people were nervous firefighters evacuated them just in case.

neighborhood as well. sea lion doing fine this morning after a dramatic rescue at pier 39 yesterday. it was spotted on the docks with something tightly wrapped around its next. a team from the mammal center responded all tourists were watching they couldn't help the sea lion until they shot it with a tranquilizer to slow it down. they sneaked up on it nabbed it with a tphefpt the thing on its neck was a plastic box strap. >> if those get into the ocean without being open and still a ring, they are deadly, because these guys are curious and they will look and nose it and get it on like a collar. >> the danger is they can choke to death on these straps. the sea lion will be evaluated before hopefully, it will be released. if you drive a toe --
