instigator of a horrific attack on a 15-year-old girl outside of a home coming dance. he admitted his involvement in the gang rape three years ago. he was sentenced today. this plea deal came after jury selection started. had he been convicted he faced up to life in prison. by entering a plea he will spend three decades behind bars. >> i can't just -- there is nothing i can say to you. >> the judge had few words for the 22-year-old. admitted attacker and primary instigator of a horrific gang rape three years ago. the charges that included rape in concert, wraip a foreign object and sexual assault with

great bodily injury, he received 32 years. >> what we have done is weighed the need for justice in this case with needs to the victim in this case. and you know what would she go through? if she were going to have to testify. >> the rape occurred in october, 2009 after a 16-year-old student left a home coming dance. she met up with a group of boys and men in a dark courtyard. over a two-hour period she was beaten robbed and raped repeatedly. others watched and no one called police. ortega was the most-heavily charged he wishes he can undo that night. he never wanted what happened to happen. what i can tell you is that if it weren't for the intoxication that he frequently suffered that he would be in a different place. >> in court his mother says

she loved her son but was sorry for what happened to the young girl w time off, he will be in prison until he's nearly 50 years old. >> i think a wish would be when he gets out that his mother will still be alive. >> there are still five others headed to trial in this case. after this incident, the school district paid the victim $4 million and installed surveillance cameras and n.their middle and high schools. >> laura, thank you. san francisco police investigating a sus spishus death. police found the person unconscious possibly of victim of a shooting. police are saying very little other than the body showed signs of trauma authorities called animal control to take away dogs that lived at the
