right now. as a precaution police evacuated 15 people from the building and several other buildings nearby. the red cross is on the scene. in the last hour police did let some people back into their homes on the opposite side of the street. our other big story, the traffic mess around the bay area as drivers work around the san mateo bridge closure. roads backed up for miles and drivers sitting in traffic for hours. here's a live look at the bay bridge toll mass a. -- plaza. moving pretty smoothly right now but that's not how it was today. >> traffic is moving normally for a saturday night here at this bay bridge toll plaza. if you were traveling on any one of the bay area's bridges or freeways, you know how closing one bridge can affect traffic everywhere. >> this bridge was closed for

up. >> fire investigators in antioch are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed a garage this morning. started at 2:00 a.m. on milton lane. the fire was so intense it sent smoke good flames 60 feet in the air. firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to a nearby home. >> residents in lake county are back in their homes after a fire evacuation order was lifted. the blaze is now 100% contained. destroyed a home and several vehicles and burned 300 acres near the town of lower lake. >> an alert by the principal of piedmont high school has raised concerned among parents in a letter the principal says this staff discovered a fantasy slut league among students. here's the details. >> at a saturday afternoon women's soccer event we talked with parents about the letter set out by the high school principal. in the letter he describes a

fantasy slut league in which our females are drafted as part of the league. mail students earn points for documented engagement in sexual activity with female students, according to the letter school learned about this during a recent assembly about date rape investigation. they learned this has been going on for five to six years. the program -- principal writes it included alcohol to impair judgment and control and social demands to be popular. >> we wanted to make sure the parents were aware of things that are going on in their kids' lives. >> through the course of the day i talked to a dozen parents with children at piedmont high school. they al all told me they're described by the letter and the principal describing this fantasy slut league. but none wanted to talk on camera. they say piedmont is a small

developing overnight sunday and definitely rain and wind for the early monday morning commute around 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 #, 7:00. here's the culprit. nice impressive cold front for this time a year. a lot of cold air, and the back end of this, this is the plume of moisture that will move in here for the monday morning commute time, and here's the timing. you can see the passing clouds overnight tonight, and then by sunday, this is 10:00, we could possibly see a little bit of moisture start to move in towards south of san francisco, but really the brunt of this is going to move in commute time, beginning in the north bay first. this is 5:00 a.m. monday, and you can see the bands of very heavy moisture making its way across the bay area. by 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, the front moves towards the sierra. check out the snow expected there. we should get into a dry patch monday afternoon before another

get the handle on a fire at a church. nearby homes have been evacuated. let's get to sergio quintana. insure. reporter: this is a fire that started about an hour ago or so. it's at the good shepherd episcopal church. the homes evacuated, it's actually a neighboring building attached to the church complex. there are still firefighters going in and out of the front door of the church. they're actually still assessing the damage. the fire itself was turned out in the last 20 minutes or so. from what i understand from some people who were actually standing right next to me here, the people who were evacuated, a lot of them were students as part of an exchange for the church, and were staying here at the church. they heard the fire and they quickly got out of the church. the good shepherd episco pal church is one of the -- is the oldest standing church in

completely vanished from the bay area. now they're making a comeback. dan ashley has tonight's assignment 7. reporter: report nam the marin headlands, the perfect time for a family swim. this is rodeo lagoon. >> i have seen an otter everytime i've been out here. >> river otters that need fresh water to survive. their cousin, sea otters, spend most of their lives in the ocean. river otters used to live in almost every creek in the bay area bus they disappeared. >> partially because of hunting and trapping and also because our watersheds were in terrible disrepair and so much pollution. >> this map shows the known otter territory in 1995. notice almost no otters in the bay area. but years of work to clean our waterways appear to be paying off. the otters are back. >> all the otters that we see

look really healthy and well fed. >> ing me gap is a narl just -- naturalist who helped launch the project. >> there's almost nothing known about their populations or ranges. >> megan and other volunteers, known as otter spotters, are combing the bay area looking for evidence to add the science. >> there's a trail in there. >> they take photos and videos which they post on their web site, and an interactive map shows the locations of more than 150 otters spotted in the last year in the bay area. the otter ecology project set up motion activated cameras to catch otters in action when people are north around during the day and at night. river otters actually spend quite a bit of time on land. they're very social and like play. but they're not always good at sharing. one volunteer caught this video of an otter stealing a fish from his buddy. a word of caution here, cute as these animals are, they're fierce and have a strong bite so

you should not get too close to them. even sew the people who do this otter stalking get hooked on it. >> can't help it. they're cool. >> he is a biologist, hilary is an otter keeper at the san francisco zoo, and andrea works with the otters at the oakland zoo. even though they get bade to take care of otters in captivity. they choose to use their free time to look for wild otters. >> this is exactly what i am interested in but didn't have the means or ability to do it on hi moan. >> with a small amount of training anyone can join the team you search for clues indicating how the animals use their habitat. otters have big webbed feet that leave distinctive tracks. >> if you come closer and look through there, you can see a perfect little animal trail. if you're able to be an animal and scoot through this hole and up the hill you'd find a whole

warren of trails like this. >> there are probably several different types of animals using the hillside but the team can figure out if otters are among them by looking for, well, outer poop. >> you get to pick it up. >> the team collects otter poop for genetic analysis. they document where they found it and take photos. >> that's what i it looks like at night. >> the river otter ecology project is looking for more otter spotters. you can learn more by heading to their web site, we have a link on our web site on "see it on tv". >> today at ocean beach, hundreds of people turning out for the 29th annual sand castle contest. big crowds. since 198 the con taste has raised money for art education in the bay area, pulling in more than 200,000 bucks last year alone. today teams of third graders from the bay area competed to see who could transform their dreams into designs of sand.
