9:00 last night. police found one victim at the corner of jennings street and thomas heavy. the second victim was found a block away. both were taken to the hospital for treatment. so far no arrests made and list have not released information on possible suspects or motives. >> a new york couple with bay area close ties can't fact thumb why a nanny would kill their two daughters and then kill themselves. abc7 news reporter serge quintin talk with heartbroken former neighbors of the family would lived in san francisco's valley for years. >> the disturbing purchased of two children in this manhattan apartment building have sent shock waves across the country. the mother returned home to find two of hurry children stabbed to death in a bathtub. two-year-old leo and six-year-old lou sea, killed by their nanny. 50-year-old ortega began

stabbing herself when they walked in. she was then wheeled away on a stretcher. >> on the floor of the bathroom is a nanny who apparently had inflicted wounds in her -- on her throat. >> marina and erin krim had recently moved to new york from san francisco and their former neighbors are shocked to hear of the tragedy. >> i remember that he had gotten a job and they were going to move to new york. >> this is a neighborhood of lots of young families with children. many with nannies of their own because both parents work. even for those who did not know the krims, this is a tragedy that is especially scary. >> it's an awful nightmare you hope never happens but it's one of these scary things you can't anticipate in life. >> the family had only been in new york a couple years. according to their former neighbor they put a lot of money into renovating their roam before he moved. >> they were nice people and he

was a techky. >> i worked at bloomberg and yahoo while in the bay area. he's an executive at cnbc and was on a flight from san francisco to new york when the attacks happened. he was met by police at the airport. following the attack maria and her surviving child were ushered out of their apartment building with a sheet over their head. their nanny remains in a coma. abc7 news. vallejo arson investigators believe they have the man who torched mayoress by davis' law office last month. 44-year-old maude love was arrested for starting the fire and few others. ab reporterallien wong has what the police are saying about what they are saying about torching the law office. >> when he surveyed the damage of his burned-outlaw office last month he told abc7 news he believed the attack was politically motivated. >> i can certainly tell you the motive was not politically motivated.

osby davis but he did not return our calls. meanwhile maude love is in jail charged with three counts of arson. reporting in vallejo, allen wong, abc7 news. this morning richmond police are investigating gunfire between two groups of teenagers that brought richmond high school's homecoming dance to a halt. about 8:30 last night police locked down the gym where the distance was being held. officers were on the scene and quickly spoken today the incident. i want to make it clear it didn't take place at the dance. shots were fired about a block away from the school following an argument between the teenagers. those involved were not students, according to police. the dance resumed around 9:00. an unidentified 79-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by an s.u.v. yesterday afternoon. police say it happened around 5:00 p.m. in or near san jose crosswalk by the intersection of taylor and north sixth streets. the driver of the s.u.v. is cooperating with police. this morning sharks fans are

this morning the national weather service has downgraded sandy from a hurricane to a tropical storm but they warn widespread impacts are still expected for the east coast. residents are being told to stock up with batteries, water, food, supplies in general for three days. the super storm is expected to make landfall on monday night near the delaware coast. airlines are warning about delays and all are waving fees for passengers who want to reschedule flights. five states have declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm. >> lisa joins us. nothing like that out here. >> no. hurricane hunters back in the storm. it's back up to a hurricane. >> yes, just by a couple miles. whole talk about that. and the contrast, which is our weather here, what a gorgeous shot. we are talking about clear conditions. you have to wait until 7:31 for the sun to come up. 60s, 70s, 80s and i'll have the details next. >> and also next the giants try to stay hot in chilly detroit. a preview of tonight's rivottal

back home clear witness -- clear conditions. 57 right now in the city with 55 redwood city. 49 san jose. the cool spots are really nice and mild out there with no clouds to speak of. 10 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday morning in napa. also 7 degrees of warming. we have the mixing, the winds coming out of the north and once we get a little bit more of that we will warm up quicker today and that means mild to warm conditions with really pretty nice weather. monday looking a little cooler then the rain coming in late on tuesday. so here's what is going on. we have high pressure off the coast. it is building in, keeping the storm track well to the north. that will allow for the slightly warmer than average conditions today and tomorrow and allow for plenty of sunshine. so from the low 70s in the sierra nevada, the southern sierra starting out in the upper 20s in the northern sierra with 61 later on today. we have san jose state playing,

also stanford. temperatures really nice. plenty of 70s out there. 76 in san jose with 70 downtown. out towards our inland east bay, how about 80 in livermore as well as fairfield and down by the monterey bay, gorgeous day, 77 in santa cruz and 76 in watsonville. here's the forecast then for tonight with a few low clouds. temperatures will be in the lower 50s in detroit. we will look for mostly sunny conditions not only today, tomorrow very little change. very little fog. the light offshore flow and more of a see breeze monday, partly cloudy skies and slight chance ever showers tuesday. a wet halloween and maybe showers. forecast models are not agreeing whatever we will be dry or wet after the wednesday system but that one looks to be kind of decent. >> on halloween night? >> on halloween night another round of rain. >> and the giants might be back here, could be playing, you know, win the whole thing game. >> then? >> that night.

>> there are nearly a dozen initiatives on the november ballot and millions and millions of dollars are being spent to influence your vote. one battle even has a brother and sister spending their own money to sway voters. here's nannette miranda with the details. >> six of the 11 ballot measures californians will be deciding next month have very well think people bank rolling one side. new reports compiled by map light.org found among the biggest donors, molly munger, who contributed $34 million to her own proposition, fund public schools through an income tax increase. per brother has given millions to defeat it. he also hopes the money helps win approval for prop 2 p. 2 which curtail influence in politics. and tom speier has spent $29 million of his own money for green energy projects spelled out in his proposition 39.

and mercury insurance founder george joseph has pumped $16 million into prop 33, which changes how car insurance rates are calculated. the u.s. supreme court said it's okay to give unlimited amounts of money to ballot measures. >> i think it's telling voters that the initiative process isn't for everyone. when you see this many well think people crowded on one ballot together putting in these giant sums of money, it's unprecedented. >> we work with charles munger on the redistricting reform. >> he took a lot of money from charles during a previous election because he couldn't get government reform through the elect you are. the group says someone has to pay for all those ads and campaign efforts. >> to qualify a ballot measure takes an an incredible amount of time and money needed for the signatures required by the constitution. >> but money doesn't amounts win. the california voter foundation said voters only approve a third of initiatives because it's

side. former senator george mitchell as formally withdrawn from settlement talks over the san bruno pipeline explosion. he won the noble prize for bringing peace in ireland was chosen to do the negotiations. but consumer advocates raised objections after learning that pg&e had received advance notice from the puc of mitchell's selection. the problem is his law firm has represented an insurance company involved in the case. talks may resume on monday without a mediator. new this morning san jose's 33 new fire department recruits begin training monday. the media partner the san jose mercury news reports it will be the largest number of recruits the city has ever trained at one time. the previous record was 30. that was set three years ago. after undergoing staffing cuts to balance the city budgets the new hires are made possible by an $8.6 million grant provided by the federal energy management

agency. this is for the second year in a row now. last year 49 laid off firefighters were rehired using a $15 million grant from fema. the new recruits will bring the department back to 683 firefighters, just shy of what the department had four years ago. in lafayette the 120 day grace period for massage parlor to become state certified ends monday. police say they will begin enforcing compliance right away to fight businesses that operate as a front for prostitution. a new ordinance requires that all massage therapists and practitioners operating in lafayette be certified with the california massage therapy council. business owners must register every year with police. masseuses who are not already state certified will be required to undergo background checks. and muni riders are being warned to be smart using your smartphones.

disease. the list goes on and on and these are diseases that in large part can be prevented with a healthy diet. >> the increase of the brown rice is actually white rice. there's more nutritional value in brown rice. >> he puts emphasis on avoiding processed food showing you can make a meal from fresh ingredients for a few dollars. >> not an organic chicken, not a fancy chicken but it's a whole piece of meat that's a lot better to for you than something you brew in the frozen food department. >> some of the demonstrations are about as fresh and local as you can get. grown in this garden on the third floor roof of the hospital. >> the vegetables are already given out to chronic disease management patients. but now they will come packaged with inspiration from some of the bay area's most notable she was. >> they can buy food affordable to their families and feed them healthy alternatives to fast-food and the products that are making americans obese.

charleston, south carolina. and there is a cold front. those two things are going to be coming together to create a pretty big storm. you've heard about it. it's going to take that left-hand turn by monday, into tuesday. not only bringing huge waves, but rain that not only is going to last for perhaps a day or two, but we are looking at astronomical high tides and a super storm coming together. so two worst case scenarios with a nor'easter and a hurricane coming together and exploding as it pushes up through the eastern seaboard. so we are looking at the leaves still on the trees and with all of that rain, power outages as we get some of the trees down, and several inches of rain. so a very dangerous situation there. and with that cold air, perhaps some snow on the back side of it. pack home couldn't be more different with clear conditions and very mild temperatures. 57 in the city. 54 in mountain view. good morning, san jose, the cool
