double shooting in san francisco. and the giants are waking up in detroit this morning, hoping to add to their two games to nothing lead in the world series. we will have a report on all that orange and black everywhere in the city by the bay. good morning, i'm terry mcsweeney. before we get to the giants let's talk about the fantastic weather. here's lisa argen. >> good morning, terry. we are talking about the last weekend in october feeling more like summer because temperatures continue to warm under a ridge of high pressure. a live look outside from our roof camera. it's a beautiful start with clear conditions. maybe a patch or two of fog at the coast. and temperatures range from about 49 to 57. so we are warmer this morning and by this afternoon we will be in the mid-60s from half moon bay to about 80 today in concord. so plenty of 70s around the bay and by the evening hours still quite pleasant with lower 70s to the mid-60s. the forecast is going to last for the entirety of the weekend, but then subtle changes monday. we have rain back in the forecast just in time for the

trick-or-treaters. terry. >> thanks very much. >> the giants face the tigers, game three of the world series tonight. this time in detroit. giants leading this series two games to none. giants fans may have the chance to watch the game with the hometown crowd on giant tv screens in civic center plaza and maybe the city dressed in orange and black to copy the spirits hay. we are joined live from civic center plaza where she has the best seat in the house. explain it to everybody exactly when there might be viewing possibilities there in civic center plaza. >> well, mayor ed lee said that opportunity could come tomorrow but, of course, it will only happen if the giants win tonight. and tomorrow they would be in a position to clinch the world series in which case fans could come here and civic center plaza and see the game all together and enjoy that exciting moment if the giants win tonight. in the meantime, the city is decorated in orange and black. buildings illuminated, bars

decked out. it surely is giants fever in san francisco, but it's not just in this city, if you take a quick trip down 111 to a mercedes dealership on the peninsula, he they are taking part in the action too. and even a great america sign supports pablo for president. here's a listen to some of the excited fans we spoke with. >> the city is awesome in orange. absolutely the best. when you look around the city and you see how it's covered with orange. i walk down the hill and you see the skyscrapers, the orange lights at the top and all the work people have put in to show their pride in the giants. >> reporter: abc7 news caught up with the team yesterday morning as players and coaches boarded a bus outside at&t park. madison bumgarner, brandon crawford, punt pence and matt cain loaded their luggage for the quick trip to sfo and on to detroit.

a man with less serious wounds. call for shots came in about 9:00 last night. police found one victim at the corner of jennings street and thomas avenue. the second victim discovered a lock away the jennings and shasta. both were taken to the hospital for treatment. so far no arrests made and list have not released information on possible suspects or motives. >> a new york couple with bay area close ties cannot fact thumb why a nanny would kill their two daughters and then stab herself. abc7 news reporter sergio again takenna talks with heartbroken former neighbors of the krim family who lived in the valley for years. >> the disturbing purchased of -- murder of two children in this manhattan apartment building have sent shockwaves across the country. the mother returned home to find two of hurry children stabbed to death in a bathtub. two-year-old leo and six-year-old lou sea, killed by their nanny. 50-year-old ortega began

stabbing herself when they walked in. she was then wheeled away on a stretcher. >> on the floor of the bathroom is a nanny who apparently had inflicted wounds in her -- on her throat. >> marina and kevin krim had recently moved to new york from san francisco and their former neighbors are shocked to hear of the tragedy. >> i remember that he had gotten a job and they were going to move to new york. >> this is a neighborhood of lots of young families with children. many with nannies of their own because both parents work. even for those who did not know the krims, this is a tragedy that is especially scary. >> it's very alarming. it's an awful nightmare you hope never happens but it's one of these scary things you can't anticipate in life. >> the family had only been in new york a couple years. according to their former neighbor they put a lot of money into renovating their home

before he moved. >> they were nice people and he was a techie. >> i worked at bloomberg and yahoo while in the bay area. he's an executive at cnbc and was on a flight from san francisco to new york when the attacks happened. he was met by police at the airport. and her surviving child were ushered out of their apartment building with a sheet over their head. their nanny remains in a coma. abc7 news. vallejo arson investigators believe they have the man who torched mayor osby davis' law office last month. 44-year-old maude love was arrested for starting the fire and two others. >> when he surveyed the damage of his burned-outlaw office last month he told abc7 news he believed the attack was politically motivated. >> i can certainly tell you the motive was not politically motivated. mr. love had disdain for the

system and the rules of which we are governed by. >> police say the 44-year-old maude love used an accelerant to set fire to the mayor's office. >> so did the mayor even know who he was, who he is? >> again, that's not something i want to comment on. >> according to family members, love had asked the mayor to handle his mother's estate after she died in 1999. love end up being forced out of the house his mother owned and family members say love has always blamed the mayor. records show love filed a civil suit against osby davis in 2005, but a judgment was never recorded. >> we have been looking at him as a lead in a series of arsons which had have plagued our city. >> he also set a mortuary on fire on june 6th. >> the funeral home handled the service for his mother. he's also accused of throwing a firebomb through the window of the taylor chapel on june 30th.

love always felt the church was evil. >> we tried to contact mayor osby davis, but he did not return our calls. meanwhile maude love is in jail charged with three counts of arson. reporting in vallejo, allen wong, abc7 news. >> tais morning sharks fans are looking at a bleak future because of the nhl lockout. they have cancelled all their games through the end of november. that wipes out an additional seven sharks games and many at home. no meetings are scheduled. coming up, the latest on sandy now headed to the east coast and it's likely affect on the air lines. also a new milestone for bart. we will take you through the tunnel under a lake that will be part of your ride to the south bay.

a major milestone for bart and the south bound extension to san jose. it has created thousands of construction jobs and when it's completed it may help to support 20,000 high-tech jobs. >> the critical part of the project, a new tunnel that will whisk passengers under the lake elizabeth. it's the centerpiece of fremont's central park, and rather than run tracks over it, bart tunneled underneath it. more from david louie. >> three years of big digging under central park are over, and bart invited people to take a tour of subway tunnel. the 1.1 mile tunnel is a link for them to link the station and san jose beyond that. >> at this point web are about a half-mile south of the existing fremont station.

the new arms springs station is about five miles down the way. >> they were among the first to take the tour. >> the width didn't surprise me, but the depth how far you had to go down to get to the bottom, that amazed me. >> the transportation officials are thrilled the project came in under budget. it was budgeted for $249 million but the bid came in at $137 million, a savings of $112 million. a result of the downturn in construction work. fremont's mayor points out the tunnel came about only after the city went to court after plans to build elevated tracks over the park back in the '80s. >> it was that it was going to destroy the ambience of the park with a train going every six minutes going through. it's not noisy, but it creates a stir. we actually went to court, we sued, and finally settled. this is the end result. >> the underground project had its challenges. >> there's actually an aquifer beneath central park so creating a dry zone for construction was one of the first challenges. >> except for two emergency air shafts, the park will be

restored. as construction continues southward, the city has ambitious plans to create 20,000 jobs in their warm springs area. >> we have hundreds of acres available and we have done a lot of planning. the feasibility is there for a mixed-use upscale job center that fremont has never seen before. >> track and station construction already is underway south of here. the completion of the extension is expected in about three years. in fremont, david louie, abc7 news. >> right now i want you to listen to a new ad from president obama's campaign. an ad raising eyebrows for prevomitive phrasing >> >> the first time you shouldn't do it with anybody. you want to do it with a great guy. >> it should be with a guy with beautiful, someone who really cares about and understands women. >> a guy who cares -- >> actually, they are talking about voting for the first time. while some applaud it for clever

word play, critics are calling it tasteless and inappropriate. republican nominee mitt romney is scheduled to campaign in florida today. last night he campaigned in ohio and he was talking about the economy. >> these have been tough times for the middle class in america. income is not going up and at the same time gasoline has gone up by $2,000 a family. health insurance premiums are up, as i said, by $2,500. food costs up. these are tough times for middle income americans. and his answer is forward. it feels more like backward to a lot of american families. i'll tell you that. >> earlier in iowa in what was billed as a major economic speech, romney said president obama has made things worse and his policies will turn things around. >> this morning the national weather service said sandy is a hurricane again, hours after being downgraded to a tropical storm. res kept are being told to stock up with about enough batteries, water and food for three days. that's how long you might be without power and water out

there. the super storm is expected to make landfall monday night near the nation's capitals. airlines are warning sbout delays and all are waving fees for passengers who want to reschedule flights so you have that option. there is a state of emergency ahead of that storm in five dates. this has a huge wind field, prolonged rain, the storm surge and astronomical high tide. two things coming together, the nor'easter and the hurricane. but we are talking about a big contrast here. calm conditions, no fog and temperatures above normal. i'll detail it for you coming up. >> and also coming up the giants trying to stay hot in chilly detroit. we have a preview

a gorgeous weekend we have here. a lot going on weather-wise. our weather will change by the end of the weekend. of course, you heard about the big storm in the northeast. we will get to that in a moment. but take a look outside. clear and little fog to speak up. the sun coming up at 7:31 and setting at 6:16. not much fog at the coast. first things first. live doppler 7 hd. this is a big storm. two systems are going to be coming together. a hurricane, which is pretty much off the screen. these are the outer ring bands. a category 1, sandy. and a nor'easter that will develop along the cold front within the next 48 hours. here's the track t goes parallel to the coast, the east coast, and then makes that left-hand turn somewhere between washington d.c. and new york monday into tuesday. we are looking at astronomical high tides, storm surge, flooding, power outages, and perhaps some snow on the western portion of it.

so it's the nor easter, it's a hurricane, it's blows coming and it has a huge wind field. we will be talking gusty winds and a sustained period of not just three, five hours, perhaps twelve to fifteen hours of lashing wind and rain. so we will keep you posted. live doppler 7 hd, nice and clear. we will be picking up showers perhaps late tuesday into wednesday. 49 san jose and fairfield. 57 in san francisco. so it's a comfortable start with numbers warmer than yesterday, as much as section degrees warmer in concord, gave degrees warmer in loss got tas. mild to worm area the weekend. the rain becomes likely on halloween. it will be a soggy one for the north bay with about a third of an inch down around san jose, maybe upwards of an inch in the north bay through thursday morning. but with high pressure in control building into the west coast, that's pushing the storm track to the north. it's also allowing for a wind shift. we will be warm not only in northern, central california burks take a look at southern california with 90 in

los angeles. but still feeling autumn-like with the cool start. upper 20s in the sierra nevada this morning. low 60s in the afternoon. how about 74 today in oakland? 78 in fremont with some 80s toward livermore. 76 san jose. we've got mid-70s down toward palo alto and redwood city with upper 60s santa rosa. 66 half moon bay. but how about 77 for santa cruz? we are talking 9 in hollister. of course, out in detroit it's very cool conditions with temperatures just in the low 40s. a few clouds. the accuweather seven-day forecast, a lot of halloween events going on. yesterday wood city, boo at the zoo and the weather is gorgeous today, tomorrow. it should be just as nice and then sun and cloud mix with the return to a sea breeze on monday. rain perhaps late tuesday. wednesday it looks like it's favoring the north bay and maybe some showers thursday and friday. so, you know, you can have it

morning's sports. >> good morning. the giants flew out of san francisco yesterday morning bound for detroit in game three of the world series. giants take with them a 2-0 series lead. the tigers haven't lost at home at all this postseason. the designated hitter will be used in the a.l. park, and it will be cold. we are talking temps in the 40s. weather doesn't scare tigers manager jim leyland at all. >> we have heaters in the dugout for both teams obviously. ours will be a little warmer than theirs tomorrow night but that's all right. we won't tell them that. you know what? it's cold. but, i mean, this is the world series. this is, you know, it's cold for everybody. it's cold for the fans, the beer is cold, everything is cold. it's great. enjoy it! it's the world series. you know, you can't be worried about how cold it is. i threw a game in chicago last year where it was 34 degrees and it was raining and sleeting and i threw the ball pretty well that night. so i don't suspect cold weather is going to be much of an issue.

who is afraid of a little cold? the 49ers are back in action monday night in arizona. another nfc west opponent with first place on the lines. the cardinals are similar to the 49ers. both have rugged defenses and offenses that sort of just muddle along. big concern for arizona, no pass protection. 35 sacks allowed in six games and aldin smith is going to be bringing it. although opposing teams this year are game planning to stop him. >> we would all like to have more sacks but teams are more prepared for us than last year. quarterbacks of are getting the ball out faster. all in all we are hurrying and creating a lot of pressure. we are doing our job >> as the saying goes, you can throw out the records when the raiders and the chiefs get together and they would like to throw them out. oakland is 2-4, casey is 1-5. pass protection also an issue there because palmer was under siege last week against jacksonville. the offensive line will be challenged at noisy arrowhead stadium. >> we are all proud men out here

>> there are nearly a dozen initiatives on the november ballot and millions and millions of dollars are being spent to influence your vote. one battle even has a brother and sister spending their own money to sway voters. here's nannette miranda with the details. >> six of the 11 ballot measures californians will be deciding next month have very well think people bank rolling one side. new reports compiled by map light.org found among the biggest donors, molly munger, who contributed $34 million to her own proposition 38, fund public schools through an income tax increase. per brother has given millions to defeat it. he also hopes the money helps win approval for prop 32 which

curtail influence in politics. and tom speier has spent $29 million of his own money for green energy projects spelled out in his proposition 39. and mercury insurance founder george joseph has pumped $16 million into prop 33, which changes how car insurance rates are calculated. the u.s. supreme court said it's okay to give unlimited amounts of money to ballot measures. >> i think it's telling voters that the initiative process isn't for everyone. when you see this many wealthy people crowded on one ballot together putting in these giant sums of money, it's unprecedented. >> we work with charles munger on the redistricting reform. >> he took a lot of money from charles during a previous election because he couldn't get government reform through the legislature. the group says someone has to pay for all those ads and campaign efforts. >> to qualify a ballot measure takes an an incredible amount of time and money needed for the signatures required by the constitution. but money doesn't always win. the california voter foundation said voters only approve a third of initiatives because it's

harder to convince people to vote yes. >> you can buy your way on to the ballot, but you cannot buy the voters' votes. >> money isn't everything. the humane society of the united states got prop 2 passed in 2008 largely on a grass roots effort and now hands have to have more room in their cages. if you want to see a complete list of donors to all the propositions, you can go to our website and click on "see it on tv." nannette miranda, abc7 news. going into detail on one of those propositions, should the rules be changed for auto insurance companies doing business in california? that's the central question voters are being asked with prop 33. this measure is complex. here's mike finish with what your vote will mean. >> this is harvey. he wrote and shepparded the passage of prop 33. >> he's a smart guy, he's knowledgeable, he's a tough opponent. >> that's the founder and chairman of mercury insurance, george joseph.

>> i don't know anything about george joseph, i don't really care about him but anybody who is an enemy of consumers is an enemy of mine. >> these two have been adversaries for decades and the fight has been joined again. this time over proposition 33 where joseph is the major financial backer. >> prop 33 simply provides that if you have earned a discount, a loyalty discount, a new company that you would come to could also consider that and offer you a discount for longevity. >> but those opposed don't focus on the discount for those drivers, they see a surcharge on those who haven't been insured. >> it's like a pre-existing condition in your health insurance policy. it had nothing to do with people's driving record. you could be a -- under prop 33 you could be a great driver, you just chose not to drive for a while and you get hit with a surcharge. >> prop 33 does offer protection to anyone who has an insurance

lapse of 30 days or less. those unemployed for up to 18 months and military personnel, although not their spouses. >> why should i believe an insurance executive wants to save me money? i'm not saying that you should believe that, but what i'm saying to you, since you are an insured person, the only thing that i'm able to offer you is this freedom to move. and if it turns out i can save you money, you can decide whether to move. >> rosenfield remains unmoved, asking why change? what has worked? >> you go to the grocery store and they don't ask you at the checkout, hey, is this your first time buying milk? well, yeah. well, i'm sorry, but i'm going to have to surcharge you because you have never bought milk from us before. think about it. it's lunacy. >> some will tell you with prop 33 you can take your discount with you. that's not true.

discounts are decided by each individual company. you can't force one to give you a disdown they aren't offering. i'm michael finney, 7 on your side. former senator george mitchell as formally withdrawn from settlement talks over the san bruno pipeline explosion. mitchell, who won the nobel prize for bringing peace to northern ireland, was chosen to do the negotiations with pg&e. but coupler advocates, along with the cities of san bruno and san francisco, both involved in the talks, raised objections after learning that pg&e had received advance notice from the puc of mitchell's selection. and the problem is this, his law firm has represented an insurance company involved in the case. talks might resume monday, but there's not going to be a mediator there. new this morning san jose's 33 new fire department recruits begin training monday. the media partner the san jose mercury news reports it will be the largest number of recruits the city has ever trained at one time. the previous record was 30. that was set three years ago. after undergoing staffing cuts to balance the city budgets the new hires are made possible by

an $8.6 million grant provided by the federal energy management agency. this is for the second year in a row now. last year 49 laid off firefighters were rehired using a $15 million grant from fema. the new recruits will bring the department back to 683 firefighters, just shy of what the department had four years ago. in lafayette the 120 day grace period for massage parlor to become state certified ends monday. police say they will begin enforcing compliance right away to fight businesses that operate as a front for prostitution. a new ordinance requires that all massage therapists and practitioners operating in lafayette be certified with the california massage therapy council. sole practitioners and business owners must register every year with brings. masseuses who are not already state certified will be required to undergo background checks.

today in san francisco's chinatown people will get the chance to become familiar with free services on public safety, consumer fraud, healthcare, house, a whole variety of legal resources. it's the eighth annual chinatown resource fair. hosted by the san francisco attorney's office. all the services will be explained in person from 11 this morning until 2 this afternoon. it is free. a variety of public and private safety organizations take part to make the city safer for everybody. the event take place at the portssmith square clubhouse. it's in chinatown. coming up next, an event at san francisco general hospital this morning just a cooking class. the celebrity chef shows how you can make healthy living a priority for your family. let's take a look at north -- what sandy is doing. this is the outer edges of sandy. lisa argen is going to tell us more about it in a little bit. this is at atlantic city, new jersey. right now the eye is off south carolina. it's quite a ways away but it's impact beginning to be felt up there. we will tell you about whether it's going to be a convergence of storms and what might happen

hospital. >> put the scallions in there. >> the toughest question in her restaurant may be which wine to pair with dinner, the crowd here is look for answers to a different dilemma. >> how do you eat healthy with only a little bit of money and gas five dollars and you have so many other priorities for the survival of life. >> that's why san francisco general hospital brought in a celebrity chef and pulled away the ribbon on this newly donated demonstration kitchen because now every thursday afternoon the hospital will open its doors to the community and turn it's attention from treating diseases to preventing them. >> diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart disease, kidney disease. the list goes on and on and these are diseases that in large part can be prevented with a healthy diet. >> the inside of the brown rice is actually white rice. there's more nutritional value in brown rice. >> he puts emphasis on avoiding processed food showing you can make a meal from fresh ingredients for a few dollars.

strong cold front pushing through western new york and western pennsylvania down through the ohio river valley. it's these two storms converging. now the tropical storm is going to run parallel up the coast lean through the weekend and by monday into tuesday it takes the left-hand turn and blows coming, bringing a huge wind field and rain event with we've got high tide going on and a prolonged storm for twelve hours or so with very heavy rains, gusty winds and with the high decides it will be 134 event here. so eats two systems coming together. a nor'easter and the tropical storm just blows coming over a huge area with over, oh, about a 400, 450 mile-an-hour wind span. we are talking about cold air on the outer edge of it, but really a historic event. hopefully it won't impact -- well, it's supposed to impact over 50 million people, you

heard about that. but the timing with election day, and it's going to be a rough go right through late sunday into tuesday. live doppler 7 hd, clear conditions. we are looking at temperatures this morning warmer than they have been. 56 in fremont. good morning, san jose. 49 for you. and the warm spot san francisco, five degrees warmer than yesterday at 57. and also the warming in redwood city. we will get into more mixes throughout the afternoon and that going to bring a mild to warm weekend with a slight offshore component and then rain becomes likely by about six, seven o'clock in the north bay wednesday. and then all over the way area through the overnight hours. the heaviest rain will be north but now it's high pressure everywhere bulling into the eastern pacific, pushing the storm track to the north. a sunny and mild weekend with temperatures slightly above normal, starting out in the upper 20s in the northern sierra. 61 later on with 72 in big sur. a very warm conditions in southern california. 76 san jose. look for the numbers on the

took me about an hour to get the rhythm of a film that is nearly three hours long. it can leave you exhausted. there are tender moments and violence. but if you lose sight of some of its intended direction, there is the wow factor of visual effects. and this may not be the best film of the year but it's certainly the most ambitious. everything you have seen before but never quite like this. when it works it is brilliant. when it doesn't, it's confounding. like all of those new-age parables we heard back in the 60s and 70s again. the makeup is really amazing and you must pay close attention. when you leave the theater the message may still be unclear. but i think that's what the producers had in mind. i will given cloud atlas three quarters of a bucket. i'm don sanchez, abc7 news and we will see you on the isle. >> coming up next on abc7 news, it's not often the bay area celebrates something president

here are the winning numbers from last night's $21 million mega-million drawings. 4, 15, 24, 36, 40 and the meganumber 44. nobody got them all. so tuesday night's jackpot estimated at $27 million. one of the bay area's most magnificent and scenic places celebrates 40 years with the national park service today. back in 1972 president richard nixon signed the bill that created the golden gate national recreation area out of a mix of public and private lands in three counties. today a celebration is planned at the marin headlands to honor the visionaries who created the park out of fears that scenic beauties would be paved over. they were talking about
